UNIQLO has recently announced an exciting collaboration with KAWS for a new UT collection. Since its launch back in 2003, UT has featured an extensive array of pop culture graphics through collaborations with brands and designers like SPRZ NY and the Shochiku Kabuki series. The new KAWS collection celebrates UT’s fusion of fashion with authentic pop culture once more.

If you are unfamiliar with KAWS, the talented artist is known for projecting his subversive images on the streets of New York, earning him considerable notoriety as well as admiration for his creativity. Today, some of the world’s most renowned museums and galleries collect and exhibit his critically acclaimed artwork.

Commenting on the new collaboration, KAWS said, “I have always enjoyed working on different mediums, whether it be plastic toys, paintings, bronze sculptures or graphic design. UT is a cool canvas for making my artwork available to people virtually everywhere. I have enjoyed working with the UNIQLO team whose enthusiasm is unparalleled. 12241361_10153085377216193_7593269375272537778_n

Hujan is a local musical phenomenon in the era of social networks. It’s beginnings however were humble; back in 2005 it was just Noh creating demos on the now obsolete myspace. Thanks to the power of social networking, within a matter of months they garnered some avid fans, whom called coined the collective the “Raingers”. Finally in 2006 they officially formed as a band. They then started to work on their first EP “1,2,3 GO?” and began touring across the country. Having no qualms about delivering their music in the native language, the alternative rock band sing about everything from love, God, family and the state of the world.

Living and breathing the element they take their name after, their music delivery is a pendulum swing alternating between light, heavy or a veritable torrential storm, reflecting the many stories, moods and agendas embedded in their songs.

This week, Hujan will be releasing their newest album titled “Jika Sempat”. The album consists of 13 tracks, but from what we know a portion of the album comprises old songs they produced but had never been released prior to this.

In the mean time, “Jika Sempat” will be released digitally and only on Spotify. To celebrate the album release, the band will be having an exclusive gig for all Raingers out there on 15th April 2016, Friday night at The Slate, Heritage Row.

Also, for Hotlink users out there you can stand a chance to win 2 pairs of tickets to watch Hujan live this weekend by clicking here.

Last but not least, you can purchase their latest collaboration with Abstrax Jingga through here.

Volume 1: “Journey To Indonesia” by DesireWear

Applying food as its main concept, DESIREWEAR has released two new clothing items that fuses tee silhouettes with a design aesthetic that would be completely at home at a desert joint. Thanks to the creative input by the brand’s designer Hazmi Fuzi, both tees are themed around “ice cream”, while the sub-theme is around ‘sweet melting & sweet chips’. Essentially, the tees are wearable sugary goodness… almost.

In tandem with their newest release, the brand also made a collaboration with talented Indonesian photographers Faqih AlFaatan and Juan Akbar to produce the first volume of their lookbook, “Journey to Indonesia”, that features the two tees. Fittingly, the photoshoot for the lookbook took place around Bekasi, Indonesia.

Monday Juice: Rozella “Dark Side”

Once again, another Monday Juice series produced by Darren Ashley himself but this time around he was approached by a a beautiful Sabahan singer songwriter, Rozella Marie from True Complexion to record the song titled ‘Dark Side‘.

“She asked me to compose something for a piano singing piece she had recorded on her phone. We did a couple of back and forth toward finalising the track. We then recorded her vocals, but ultimately she wrote the song while I helped instrumentalize and record it,” Darren said.

The result is a track that brings a perfect harmony between Rozella’s vocals and Darren’s creative, experimental melodies.

If you want to listen to more of his Monday Juice tracks head down to his official youtube channel and sound cloud.

Amongst The Believers By KVLTVRA

At first glance, one may think that the word KVLTVRA [kuhl-chur-a] is little more that a collection of randomly curated letters jammed together. However, name refers to a word in Mandarin which means ‘to overcome’. A Malacca-born brand established in 2013, KVLTVRA aims to be a nonconformist, homegrown streetwear label. Their surrealist approach to their graphic prints on their attires stems from the interactions in their surrounding and the subculture movement.
With self expression as a focus, their latest collection, ‘Amongst the Believers’ uses print designs to showcase the shallow mindset of human followers who succumb to dogma. It consists of four Spring/Summer tees that represent the ritual of “Amongst the Believers”.

Here are the promo video for the “Amongst the Believers” collection.

Rolling in the Deep, Dark…

pit of desp- desire. Yeah, desire.

Dearest surfers of the internet, Malaysia has found its very own Rebecca Black. Our version, however, isn’t in the form of a pre-pubescent girl wrestling with the very real first-world conundrum of deciding which seat in a car she should take. Our version also doesn’t allow her vocals to be tarnished by copious amounts of autotune. Oh no, our Rebecca Black is raw, unadulterated and spends her free time rolling in the deep.

A Tamil radio channel and television host, Dato’ Geethanjali G is no stranger to letting her voice be heard. She’s also the president of both MyWomen and the Malaysian Association Of Indian Film & Entertainment Industry, and a prominent figure in championing the rights of women in the local sphere. She apparently sings in her free time, too.

Breaking gender bias for the better is one thing, but if her recent cover of Adele’s chart smashing hit ‘Rolling in the Deep‘ is any indication, she might just end up breaking audio speakers nationwide as well.

Take a listen. You can be certain that after those four minutes, there’ll be a fire starting in all your hearts. It’ll reach a fever pitch, but we’re not going to guarantee that it’ll bring you “out the dark”.

“And I’m gonna make your head burn!” Truer words were never spoken. The lady does great work in her advocacy of women empowerment, but maybe she should keep the singing a little more… private.

Enjoy the cover!
