Get Ready For Star Wars Day Malaysia 2016!

After the beautiful experience of The Force Awakens and the adrenaline-soaked rush of seeing the very first trailer for Rogue One, this particular event will be the cherry atop the cake for fellow Star Wars fans. The iconic, fictional realm where the Force, lightsabers and Jar Jar Binks reside is one worthy of celebration, so Star Wars fans here will be assembling this 30th April to 1st May, from 10am to 6pm, at Jaya One to do just that. Who doesn’t want to boast (or pretend) being a part of a galaxy far, far away?

Star Wars Day Malaysia 2016 will host a flea market, exhibits and artists too, while activities to do abound ranging from cosplay competitions to pop quizzes via lightsaber demonstrations and fan panels. To top it all off, there will also be a food truck bonanza parked right outside the venue.

So what are you waiting for? Mark the date on your calender, set aside the time and make sure your costume game is on point. May the force be with you!

The Electric Ape in Stereo to release their debut EP on cassette

Post-rock quartet from Ipoh who coined themselves as The Electric Ape in Stereo will be releasing their debut EP, “We Come in Peace” in the form of cassette via Toothache Splinter soon. TEAIS shines as a bastion of what was once great in the long history of post-rock music. Taking cues from the masters the likes of Russian Circles, Mogwai and Pelican, the band sonically lay waste to every point of neurons in your brain with what they call, “the ape sound”.

Bittersweet’s “BTSWT”

Last week, we were invited to celebrate the release of Bittersweet’s latest album at the Fred Perry Pavilion on April Fool’s Day. The band has been infusing local soundwaves with British pop rock vibes for over a decade, and they’re keeping with the tradition through the release of their third album to date, titled BTSWT. We sat down for a chat with Fizan (vocalist), Herri (guitar/vocals), Moon (guitar/vocals) and Emai (keyboard/synth) to get a better idea of the story behind their newest album, as well as general updates on the band itself.

How long did it take to finish your 3rd album ?

It took us roughly 3 years to complete this album, we didn’t rush ourselves throughout the whole recording. The album took a long time to finish because we were usually attending shows during weekends, and we had our own daily jobs to attend to during the weekdays as well. So it dragged the process quite a bit.

We all know that the band will be playing at the upcoming major festival Urbanscape alongside Hujan. Will there be a Bittersweet tour after that event ?

On 1st May this year we’ll be crossing the border to our neighbouring country Singapore, then on 6th May we’ll be flying to Jakarta, Indonesia. The day right after that we’ll be coming back to Kuala Lumpur to perform for the RAKU Fest. Beyond that, we’ll be touring around Malaysia after a short break for fasting and Eid day.

Tell us about your latest album, BTSWT. What’s the concept behind it?

For this album, our approach is on expressing what we all feel, not just on a personal level but what we as a band have gone through together. At the end of the day, things will always go full circle where it revolves around everyone of us.

What’s your favourite song in this album ?

Well we can’t be bias, I mean, who does not like their own work of art right? (laugh) I think, throughout the whole 12 years in the band we pretty much work hard to produce all of our songs, so that even our new listeners would appreciate our music.

What can we expect from Bittersweet in the near future ?

Of course, after we’re done with all the touring we might hit the studio again to record some new stuff for our upcoming single or maybe even another album.

For those interested in Bittersweet’s latest album you can purchase it digitally on Raku, Spotify and iTunes among others for RM25.

A Closer Look At The Puma X Crossover ‘Roses’

Taking aesthetic cues from the movie Blue Velvet, this pair of shoes bearing PUMA’s Blaze of Glory silhouette is the first release of the PUMA and Crossover product collaboration called the Velvet Twin Pack. The shoe, ‘Roses’, is inspired by the film’s opening scene of a white picket fence with a clear blue sky and red roses as its backdrop. The shoe is given a grey and black build with hyper red contrast to mirror the opening scene. Sitting atop of a Trinomic sole, minimal branding accents can be seen on tongue, insole, lace tip and heel tab. They also come with 2 extra laces for personal preference. Stay tuned with us and Crossover for more information on the release!

For now, here’s a more visually in-depth look at part one of the Velvet Twin Pack below:

Reflections By ScrewtheboxTv

Reflections is a short film collaboration between Obey Clothing, Loser Machine and Screwtheboxtv. The film explores skateboarding from the perspective of the street and surroundings itself, the ledges, stairs, etcetera. It shows the mark that a skateboarder leaves on our society, and that skateboarding’s existence and presence is felt, no matter how small it is.

The screening party will be happening on this Saturday, April 9th starting on 7pm at Livescapeasia PJ.
