A Peek at HTC’s Latest Flagship

Locally speaking, the HTC brand may have NOT yet breached the pantheon where the best smartphone manufacturers we rely on and love reside, but its latest flagship could very well be its gateway to greater popularity.

Unveiled last week, the Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer’s 2016 flagship product HTC 10 is the spiritual successor to the One M9 and One A9 models, with an aesthetic that unifies some elements of both its predecessors.

The HTC 10 embodies a different approach to the brand’s design where bold contours are carved out of solid metal. The phone has a lot of substance paired with its beautiful form, and is deceptively durable to boot.

Subjected to in excess of 168 hours of extreme temperature tests ranging from a teeth chattering -20’C to a stroke inducing 60’C, the flagship phone endured. It also passed over 10,000 drop, bend, scratch and corrosion tests. If the HTC 10 had a personality, it would have been a grade A masochist.

Having a smartphone you can rely on in frigid tundras or the Sahara desert (while you die of frostbite or heatstroke) is lovely and all, but you’re not likely to expose yourself to such climates unless, for one, you’re there to quite literally capture the moment. This is where the 10’s camera comes into play.

Boasted as arguably the best smartphone camera currently available on the market, the phone possesses the world’s first optically stabilized, larger aperture f/1.8 lenses on both the front and rear cameras. Combine this with the new larger sensors, 12 million of the brand’s new generation UltraPixels (1.55um per pixel), faster laser autofocus powering the main camera and a wide angle lens and screen flash on the front camera and you’ve got a device that executes photography with crisp sharpness and high resolution.

The world class camera is probably one of the biggest selling points of the 10 considering the front camera is particularly good in relation to its peers, making it perfect for “selfie” enthusiasts or the narcissist in all of us.

The feature is also fast enough to operate in burst mode thanks to the camera’s ability to launch within a mere 0.6 seconds coupled with the 2nd generation laser autofocus that allows for quicker and clearer shots. All the settings are also conveniently located at your fingertips with Pro Mode still offering advanced options for more experienced photographers, including RAW format functionality.

Of course, the merits of the HTC 10 is on more than just its camera, so you can browse through more info on its specs and other features here.

RECAP: Puma X Crossover “Roses” B.O.G

Crossover Concept Store recently put the local sneakerhead scene into the limelight thanks to its collaboration with Puma. In case you’ve been sleeping for the last couple of weeks straight, this partnership resulted in the birth of the Velvet Twin Pack featuring the tweaked Blaze of Glory and Disc Blaze silhouettes named “Roses” and “Mystery” respectively.

Last Friday, a media launch featured the first part of the Velvet Twin Pack, “Roses” that generated quite some buzz around the new shoe. Soothing drinks were served at the event, and on display was a custom concept packaging for Roses designed by @flowersinthewindow09 which was really fascinating.

“Roses” is now available exclusively throughout all Crossover stores for RM580, while the Disc Blaze “Mystery” is rumoured to be released sometime in May this year.

Comic Art Festival Kuala Lumpur 3

CAFKL poster

A platform for creative talents both local and across the global pond to band together in the spirit of driving the progress of Malaysia’s creative industry, the Comic Art Festival Kuala Lumpur (CAFKL) will be coming back in its third iteration this coming 28th-29th May at MAKESPACE, Quill City Mall!

Spearheading this incubator of creativity is the Sequential Arts Youth Society, a volunteer-run, non-profit organisation that aims to educate the public about the ever-expanding animation, comics and games community in Malaysia. Established in 2009, their ultimate goal is to create a dynamic avenue where local and international creative talents can come together and push the Malaysian creative industry forward through innovative new ideas.

To that end, CAFKL is organised as a creator-focused event where independent and professional artists from various circles gather around in one place to share and learn from each other.

So come and experience the various comic cultures of Malaysia via the artist booths, art demonstrations by guest artists and forums by members of the industry!

To get an idea of what the event entails, here’s a recap video from last year’s CAFKL:

Fashion Revolution Day Malaysia

Just as the name implies, the worldwide movement coined the Fashion Revolution Day operates on a single-minded focus to alter the face of fashion through providing an understanding of the fundamentals of sustainable and responsible fashion. We’re assuming this means the movement isn’t a fan of fur coats.

A fashion awareness celebration that will hit local shores this 21st of April starting 7pm at Impact Hub KL, it intends to educate the masses that every time you buy new clothes, you could be contributing to one of the world’s most polluting industries. Not only is fashion killing our planet, the industry is abusing the basic human rights of those who make our clothes.

The event will showcase the screening of a documentary film called ‘The True Cost’ that highlights the effects of fast fashion on people and the planet. To gain entrance to the film screening, all you have to do is bring one or more items of used, but clean, clothing. There will also be a “Preloved Clothing Swap” where you can trade your pre-loved clothing, shoes and accessories for free in support of the movement and its cause.

For more information on Fashion Revolution Day Malaysia, feel free to head over to their official Facebook page.
