MASSES Picks: 5 Movies You Probably Have Not Watched (August)

This month of movies features a wide range of genres guaranteed to make you laugh, wince or get sucked into the wisdom of Jules Winnfield and Vincent Vega. These movies did not make it to the big screens in Malaysia so we hope you enjoy this list.
If you have any suggestions or thoughts you would like to share, do leave a comment at the bottom.
And, Happy Merdeka to all from the team here at Masses!
1. Stretch (2014)
A combination of action, comedy and thriller, Stretch tells the story of a down-on-his- luck limo driver (Patrick Wilson) with a gambling debt and looking for a way to change his life. All that is about to change overnight when he meets eccentric Karos, a billionaire who also happens to be wanted by the FBI. From trips to sex clubs, run-ins with a scary Russian tow truck driver and bumping into various quirky characters, this movie also stars Jessica Alba and features cameos from David Hasselhoff and Ray Liotta.
2. The Human Centipede (2009)
3 tourists are in for the worst experience in their lives as we watch on The Human Centipede how the human mind can be a sick place at times. Lindsay and Jenny are 2 Americans visiting Germany to have a good time when they find themselves kidnapped by a deranged scientist hell bent on achieving his morbid fantasy: joining people together through their gastric systems. Without going into details, what follows is a series of truly horrific incidents that will make you want to retch. You have been warned.
3. RocknRolla (2008)
Mobster Lenny Cole (Tom Wilkinson) rules the underworld of London with an iron fist and a score of well-greased palms. As gangsters and petty crooks alike scramble to get their cut of a Russian mobster’s crooked land deal, street-smart hustler One Two (Gerard Butler) tries to play both sides of the fence as the lucrative deal falls into the lap of Lenny’s presumed-dead son. Smart, well paced and thrilling, this movie features one of Butler’s better performances on the big screen and also stars a pre-Bane Tom Hardy.
4. Superbad (2007)
McLovin’! This comedy film is from the same guys who brought you Knocked Up and The 40 Year Old Virgin so if you are a fan of those 2 movies, watch this. Evan (Michael Cera) and Seth (Jonah Hill) are 2 high school seniors /best friends with 1 ultimate goal: to attend a graduation party and have their cherries popped to join the in-crowd. Things don’t turn out as planned when separation anxiety sets in and 2 ‘corrupt’ cops enter the picture. Based on a script written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg when they were 13 years old, this is a funny take on the ‘ritual’ passage high school students embark on before they enter college.
5. Pulp Fiction (1994)
One of the best movies of all time, Pulp Fiction is a must watch if you call yourself a movie freak. This movie is a series of related but separated short stories of crime and comedy that each result into an unexpected ending including unexpected deaths, sudden twists, philosophical banter, black comedy events and violent conclusions of crime and its following consequences. Featuring a star-studded cast (Samuel L. Jackson, John Travolta, Uma Thurman), you won’t regret watching this flick directed by Quentin Tarantino.
Flying Mouse 365
If you’ve heard of Chow Hon Lam, then you must know that this t-shirt designer/ illustrator has a mind filled with unlimited creativity. Or you might have heard of Flying Mouse 365, not knowing the mastermind behind this label is our local talent. Founded in year 2009, Flying Mouse is where a tee is not just a tee. It’s something more than that. More like a blank canvas on which a story can be told and people listening to what the designs have to say. The designer then came up with a project titled, Flying Mouse 365. This project is huge. For the designer to come up with one t-shirt design per day for the whole entire year, we must think that it’s something impossible. Designers out there, you will know how tough it can be. But no, not for the designer of Flying Mouse 365. To make this work, he was committed to it giving all his time, creativity and dedication to it. Then, it worked. There really are 365 designs and you will want to check them out here. Flying Mouse has also earned opportunities working with many high profile clients which includes Nike and AirAsia Airlines. And to date, nearly 100,000 people have purchased a tee with Flying Mouse’s design. Flying Mouse’s tees, art prints and products are available for order on their official website. And if this post has made you to want more of the illustrator’s works, here it is.
