THELOSTGIANT Exhibition in Hin Bus Depot Art Centre

THELOSTGIANT exhibition is a collective effort by Ownly Penang, an ongoing visual collection and exploration dedicated to Penang, an island they call their home. According to the creatives from Ownly Penang, THELOSTGIANT is the self-proclaimed name for the abandoned Kompleks Tun Abdul Razak (KOMTAR), an icon of Penang, which was built as part of a master plan in modernizing the city of George Town. Besides remembering THELOSTGIANT, the exhibition is also about what Penang has to offer. From street food to street art and good hospitality to rich culture and heritage, Peanang is not just a place where retirees come to bide but to live, create and inspire.

“Much have been said and blab about this wonderful island, yet everyday we hear stories of lost hopes and shattered dreams that saddens our inner soul, and question us on the reason to stay on this island we call home. What should we do to protect what we hold dear of, to think forward and take action to not let Penang fall into the faith of becoming just another disneyfied city.” – OWNLY PENANG

The exhibition involves photography as well as installation arts. Still ongoing till 20th of October, be sure to check out the exhibition at Hin Bus Art Depot Centre. They are open daily from 12 pm to 7 pm.

#IOTD : @huxsterized

It’s been a while since we updated our #IOTD segment. Today’s iotd goes to Huxster who only started Instagramming this year. This graphic designer cum real estate agent is married to @moksva and they both have a son. Huxster says that he is not a photographer. He doesn’t even own a DSLR! Using only his iPhone 5, he captures his images and edits them using VSCO and Snapseed.

“The idea is just to have fun and see is there anyone out there would appreciate my kind of photography style,” says Huxster. For him, Instagram is the best platform for him to share his minimalism with the world. He appreciates photography of all sorts but for him, minimalistic art and photography is his cup of tea. He wishes for people to smile when they see his work, simply enjoying the simplicity, composition, lighting as well as value for each photograph he posts. He says that he met a lot of new friends and found fellow minimalists like him on Instagram. “They call me Huxsterized the ice cream man! haha.. because i brand my self by giving them ice cream emoji when i commented or replying to their comments. I used ice cream photo for my avatar and i post ‘ice cream post’ my way to say thanks to these awesome communities,” says Huxster.

The Royal Snapping Artist (@_rsa_minimal) scouted Huxster to join their family. Although inspired by many other minimalists, he says that his number one inspiration is his wife, @moksva and his son, Mikael. He photographed them before moving on to photograph strangers. He is more observant (compared to before) of buildings, walls, shadows, surrounding people and busy strangers. “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication,” says Huxster, quoting Leonardo da Vinci.
