Steeltoe Clothing – 2014 Lookbook

DSC_7444

Introducing Steeltoe Clothing Malaysia, an independent local clobber epitomising philosophical ideas derived from their journey and experiences back in the glory days. The name ‘Steeltoe’ was inspired by skinheads who wear steelcap boots by Dr. Martens, Underground or Grafter. Founded in 2010, Steeltoe Clothing only created clothing for the scene, but in 2013, they decided to produce for fellow Malaysians who share the same interest in British underground style. With a desire to instil the British Subculture elements combining proud-to-be-Malaysian attitude and a vision to educate young people on local clobbers, they have released a collection of Harrington jackets. These jackets are being sold locally, in UK, Holland, Turkey, Poland, Singapore and also in Brunei.

Do follow them on Facebook as well as their Instagram for their soon to come Ninja hoodies!

Mohd Asri started making leather goods as a hobby, then he took orders from friends and family. Founded in 2011, Asri made his hobby into a small business and Field Trip was born. In April of 2012, he invited his friend, Shalahudin, to join his venture. Field Trip started to bloom as people recognised their products stocked at The Goods Co. at The Bee. Asri thought for a bit and decided, “Why not make it as a part-time job?” Being one of the few handmade leather product makers in Malaysia, Field Trip has since made a mark.

Inspired by US, Field Trip’s leather goods are produced by hand using American manufacturing traditions with domestically sourced materials. “We are inspired by our beloved country. And then here are we, a small team of craftsman trying to inspire others. Its all about our passion,” says Asri.

The store is founded by Laila Zee, and Ashraf Khalid, and it’s a place that is all about creating a space that Malaysians would be proud of, somewhere local designers can sell their apparels, somewhere artists can display their works, and a place where the people can perform. The store is filled with a very good vibe, where the people can take their time to enjoy themselves and do their shopping.

THRILL ME NOW

Everybody needs a little thrill in their lives, and if you’re inpatient, you wouldn’t want to wait. It’s a humid Friday evening and you’re stuck at home because you’re too broke to go out but there’s wifi at home. What do you do? Get to the internet and look for some fresh mash ups to lift your mood. Chances are, you’ll come across this guy called ThrillMeNow.

Thrillmenow, whose real name is Shazee considers himself as a reborn musician after leaving the scene for a number of years due to other commitments. Those untitled emotions came up with its own answers as his love for music prevails. Cliché yes, but it’s the truth. At the moment, this Malaysian musician is crossing his fingers to qualify for the Red Bull Music Academy in Tokyo.

All the things that shaped him musically, today, came from his family, particularly his mom. At a very young age, his mom introduced him to the sounds of 50s and 60s soul music, and as a child he began to feel that he needed some substance to hold on to (in this case an instrument). He picked up the flute subsequently moved on to the saxophone. He went on to take up a degree in music at a local university and got involved with the KL jazz scene for a while, but it doesn’t stop him from being a musical nomad.

With bravado and thirst for experimentation, he produced a solo hip hop album, in Malay sometime in mid-2000s. Titled ‘Aku Melayu’ ( I am Malay) . ‘Aku Melayu made it to the mainstream Malay music charts with its sentimental track called ‘Mengapa’ which is a collaboration with Lah (former member of R&B group V.E)

Still itching for excitement, he maneuvered to become a freelance composer managed to get into major deals by doing jingles and theme songs for both corporate and government projects. Wide awake with the the dynamics of music making and showbusiness, Thrillmenow’s anticipated upcoming album ‘Rock Paper Scissors’ is being endorsed by one of Malaysia’s top male vocalist, Faizal Tahir on Twitter that has gone into a retweet frenzy.

Genuinely, Shazee knew that there is something bigger that he could do as a solo artiste. Being a fan of chord progressions, he decided to get his hands dirty and see if he could infuse all his experience in music into EDM. Ought to be  bass heavy, beat driven and pinches of sexy synths that you can hear from his tracks are predominantly influenced by the old school hip hop stuff that he fell in love with when he was a teenager.

With a catchy moniker such as ThrillMeNow, he is set to sizzle your soundsystem and pound the dancefloor. Wanna be up to date with anything Thrill Me Now? Add him up on his Facebook page, Soundcloud, Youtube , Twitter ( @CanUThrillMeNow ) and his Instagram ( @ThrillMeNow ).
