RECAP: Vans Go Skateboarding Day 2014

Every year on the 21st of June, skateboarders around the world congregate at spots in their own city to show their love for a wooden board with 4 wheels, and also to declare that love to the people outside the skateboarding world. This year the Vans Go Skateboarding Day was held at the Standard Chartered Park which is right outside KLCC. This year is by far the biggest turn out for Go Skateboarding Day in Malaysia, with at least 500 skaters participating.

Some of the activities for the day includes art installations by local artist, skate obstacles for free skate sessions, skate competitions, and the highlight of the day is the skate parade where parts of the roads in the area were closed off by traffic police for a parade of skaters.

Abstrax X Malaysia Airlines Detailed Look

One of Abstrax’s most anticipated t-shirt release of the year is finally here. For this release, Abstrax collaborates with our national airline, MAS to produce this ‘uniform’ type feel t-shirt which is in conjunction with promoting MAS’s #MHmoments. In November last year, Abstrax  participated in  the first ASEAN Streetwear and Urbanwear Exhibition in Jakarta, Indonesia, being the first ever Malaysian streetwear brand to ever achieve a feat such as this, but it would not have happen without the help of our national airliner because they sponsored the flights for the whole team.

As a token of appreciation for MAS’s help towards the brand, Abstrax created this t-shirt for every single crew to wear during the trip, and became an instant hit amongst Abstrax fans after seeing it on the brand’s social media. Initially, the t-shirt was not meant to be sold to the general public and was just meant to be used as a promotional tool for the trip to Jakarta, but due to excessive demand, and after much talks with MAS on licensing, and after some production delays, and more than 6 months later, the t-shirt is now available. Check out our detailed look of collaboration below:-

If you want to get your hands on this collaboration, you can purchase it from Abstrax’s webstore here, or hit them up on their Facebook page here, and also don’t forget to follow them on their Instagram ( @abstraxjingga ) to stay up to date with them.

20140623_223326 b

For our long hiatus from our #’What’s On Your Desk’ segment, we have Edmund Yew aka NESTWO is a graffiti writer based in Kuala Lumpur. A silent-bob who thinks of walls as bigger canvases to express his creativity. To him, graffiti is born in a rebellious spirit that challenges him to stray away from the comfort zone which he considers a gift and a curse. He focuses mostly on letters, but at the same time, desire to evolve, to be experimental and to be diverse as an artist. To keep up with his work, check out his Facebook as well his Instagram!

NikeSB socks – Haven’t been wearing these since I bought them 5 years ago.

Spray cans – Here’s my collection in many different sizes. Not completely new, some have already been used.

Ironlak colour chart – A guide for picking and matching the right colours for my next piece.

Holga Lomo camera – I’ve abandoned this camera for quite sometime, the film inside is still fresh..like garden-fresh.

Markers – For drawing, doodling, sketching, etc.

Krink Markers and Mops – These tools are always with me when I’m on the run. Mops are always my favorite.

Name card – Sometimes I do need to ‘sell out’ my ‘beautiful-stunning-gorgeous-attractive-pretty-cute-nice-looking‘ ass for better income.

Stickers – BNE inspired me once to slap stickers. Plus, I’m giving them out for free so you can stick them on your chest or forehead.
