Renowned Malaysian Artist and session drummer Jimmy Jamz, from Tempered Mental, Oh Chentaku and previously the session drummer for Ella, is no stranger to the Malaysian music industry. From his tour beginnings from Malaysia to Japan, Thailand, Korea and other countries with Tempered Mental to the most recent Versus 2 national competition with Oh Chentaku, he has definitely been busy with a number of memorable achievements. Known for his definitive strokes, groove and technicality, Jimmy is a drummer you can’t stop watching.

Presented by Heartbeat Drumsticks Malaysia & Music Master, join Jimmy in this drum clinic as he shares on different drum topics. He will also be performing a few Tempered Mental tracks at the clinic with his mates Melina and Jack. Even though you aren’t a drummer and have no clue whatsoever on how to play the drums, it is no harm in having a little know how on how to legitimately bang the crap out of something. It is a good stress reliever. Oh yeah, entrance is FREE, so see you guys there next week.

The World Hip Hop Dance Championship is an international Hip-Hop dance competition created by Hip Hop International since 2002. Every year, hundreds of dance crews all over the world compete to be called the “World’s Best” dance crew. The competition is split into 4 categories which is Megacrews, Junior, Varsity and lastly Adult. Local dance crew, Elecoldxhot aka ECX has put Malaysian dance scene on the world map by placing 3rd in the adult’s category. If you have not heard of this dance crew hailing from KL, they are the champions for Astro Battleground in 2008, 8TV’s Showdown in 2011 and recently won 8TV’s Showdown again this year in the All-Star Category.

They did not get the gold medal, and they definitely didn’t get the title of “World’s Best”, but they have definitely given us Malaysian something which is worth more then a medal and bragging rights as “World’s Best”, that which is hope.

Not very often we Malaysians used the term “Malaysia Boleh” in the right context, but in this case we can proudly say MALAYSIA BOLEH!

Nike Air Foamposite One “Sport Royal”

9089017930_863ee96ca8_b

We won’t be seeing any Royal Foamposites releasing soon, unless Nike decides to re-issue the OG Dark Neon Royal again. But this is pretty much as close as it gets to that. The Wolf Grey lace collar as a replacement to the previous black one gives the shoe a nice different twist to it coupled with Game Royal accents. This pair looks to be the alternate “Orlando” colorway with an upper that is predominantly done in eye-catching Sport Royal Blue. Still keeping the fan favorite details such as the carbon fiber shank plate, Penny logo and an icy sole to finish off the shoe.

This pair of Sport Royal would hopefully be the start to a crazy second half of 2013 with talks of “Weatherman” and “Thermal Map” foams set to be released later this year. The Sport Royal is a Hoops Station exclusive release that would be releasing tomorrow at their Lot 10 branch

Shurén projects – Summer 2013

14

The Chinese proverb says “十年树木, 百年树人”. For those of you who do not read Chinese, it means that it takes ten years to nurture a seedling into a tree, but it would take a longer time – literally hundreds of years to make a man of oneself. Taking their name Shurén (树人) (“Shu” meaning tree & “rén” meaning people / person) from the aforementioned proverb, Shurén Projects aims to grow as a seedling, though not so much in a biological sense, but as a metaphysical one.

The brand focuses on reworking classic menswear, adding ideas and their take on it along the way. Quality of the materials are also a key point for this brand. For example, in their latest collection release, the material used for their Hawaiian shirt is sourced from, well… Hawaii.  From what we notice with this brand is that close attention is paid to details.

If any of you guys who wanna get to know more about the brand, head on over to their website or you can check their products out physically at The Off-Day.

In their latest release, Million Apparel is pushing for a ‘Greener’ Malaysia. The latest release is a Black / Gold print of their Green Nation t-shirt which is only limited to 50 pieces. From what we heard, the ‘green’ movement is getting bigger in Malaysia, and most of the t-shirts have been snatched up. Hit them up on their Facebook if you are hoping to score yourself a t-shirt and join the ‘green’ army.

The final piece to the puzzle, the finale to their “Beyond The Cross” Collection, is their latest release which is the Camo Patch Oxford shirt. They say a tiger doesn’t change it’s stripes, and neither does Nerd Unit. Being a military inspired clothing label, their latest offering is seen donning, yes you guessed right, camouflage. Patches of tiger camouflage designs are placed tastefully on the back shoulder area and on the sleeves of a white shirt.

The shirt is already available at selected retailers in Malaysia, Singapore and Taiwan. Hit them up at their Facebook page to get the list of retailers that carry them.

Machas by Tactmatic & Ego

In the States they have N*ggas, in Malaysia we have Machas. For those of you who aren’t from Malaysia and are wondering what is the meaning of the word “Macha”, it means Brother-In-Law in Tamil. But it has become a slang among Malaysians to use the word Macha to refer to an Indian friend, or an Indian friend to call another Indian friend. We love the fact that rappers Tactmatic and Ego have embraced their inner Machas and made a song and a video about it.

“Chillin’ with my middleclass Indian dudes, Sippin’ on some Bombay, gin and juice.”

Enjoy.

Scythe Store

Another new denim joint has popped up in the Klang Valley. Located at E-Curve, Mutiara Damansara, Scythe Store carries a good variety of Japanese denim labels. Momotaro, Kamikaze, Full Count & Co. and Naked & Famous are just some of the labels on the list.

The highlight of the store would be the label Fullcount & Co. from Japan. It was started by one of the founders of Evis Jeans ( Now it is known as Evisu) back in 1992. Fullcount & Co. was the first ‘Made in Japan’ denim company to use Zimbabwe cotton denim fabric, which is pretty common in the premium denim industry, but revolutionary 2 decades ago when first introduced by them. Every year the brand will release a special World War II edition. Only 200 pair of 13.7oz jeans made per year, all of which are numbered and are made out of 5 different threads. 3 out of the 200 pairs are available at Scythe store.

Although the shop isn’t ‘officially’ open, it has been open for business for the past 1 and a half months, and they have already been visited by a string customers from all over Peninsular Malaysia. Even the famous Zizan Raja Lawak is a regular customer. Head on over to the store to check out what they have to offer, in the meantime we will be waiting for updates on their official launch dates.

Nerd Unit – Spring / Summer 2013 “Beyond The Cross” collection

 944117_261447117328298_545948968_n

This brand has been under the radar for some time now. The founder, Ronald Chew, initially started the brand in San Francisco in 2011 when he was studying there. The concept of Nerd Unit is pretty much inspired by anything military, American military to be exact. Camouflage is very much a staple diet in their designs and we have no complains on that. One can never get tired of camouflage designs when tastefully done.

The meaning behind the brand’s name “Nerd Unit” comes from Ronald’s take on our current streetwear scene. A scene where he see’s majority of its occupants struggling to be a ‘hypebeast’ and in order to achieve that, are willing to camp in front of their computers scavenging  for good deals on eBay or other sites for the latest hype, or just surfing the net to get any sort of info on what’s latest and what’s hype. That, is a pretty ‘nerdy’ thing to do and that’s how the name came about.

Nerd Unit’s latest collection is called “Beyond The Cross”, which sees the brand venturing into religion, or the signs of it. In all of history, religion has always been a part of war. Death coincides with war, and so is religion. The collection consist of tanks & t-shirts and is already available at selected retailers in Malaysia, Singapore and Taiwan.
