Hoops Station is back with more bombs to drop this coming weekend. First to kick things off, a follow up to the “White Grape” that just dropped last weekend, the last pair to drop this Saturday would be the Air Jordan 5 “Black Grape”. Many have applauded the Jordan Brand for releasing a proper new-age take on a classic pair of shoes. The “Black Grape” will feature a slick black durabuck which covers most of the upper accompanied by 3 sets of plastic eyelets which is in flat black finish. Not forgetting the signature AJ5 “Shark Teeth” graphic on the midsole that is donned in the new emerald-grape color.

Next in line is the LeBron X EXT Denim QS. Taking inspiration from the “Corks”, this pair of Lebron X is also a MATERIALS focused pair of sneaks. The LeBron X EXT Denim QS comes featuring a full denim upper, hot pink midsole, and tan leather laces and lining. Don’t expect to see this pair on courts, but more in malls instead.

Both pairs will be dropping this coming Saturday, and only made available for reservations to Hoops Station VIPs.

Masses’ Top 5 Dads in The World

Every year, countless websites and magazines release their picks of who they think is the ‘Coolest’ or ‘Most Rocker’ or ‘Bad-Ass’ Dads around the world. So we at Masses decided to jump on the bandwagon and make up our own list of who we think is the world’s top 5 dads in the world. Yay! how exciting!

First off on the list would be none other than Mr Hov himself. Although just joining the fathers club not too long ago, how can we resist not putting him on the list. King of the HipHop world, calling the Queen B your mum and saying hi to some of the worlds biggest celebrities in the world is just some of the perks of calling Jay-Z your dad.

Already a 4 star General in The Army of Fathers, David Beckham is no stranger to fatherhood. Although almost at 40, but he still looks like he is in his late 20s and having a body that is still model material that would make a teenage girl shreak and go nuts over would be some good genes to have if you’re his kid. Most importantly, having a dad that is a football legend is a definitely a good card to have in case you get in trouble with teachers at school.

Drummer of one of the most famous punk rock band in the world, tatted and pierced, owns a rad clothing brand and owns a crazy collection of cars, what more do you want? He even dresses kick-ass too. Travis Barker is referred as “Punk’s First Superstar Drummer” by the Rolling Stones. Really, what more do you want?

Mr. Brad Pitt is the leader so far, having 6 kids under his wings, which means he outranks all the dads we have listed so far. Winning the award of “Sexiest Man Alive” twice, listed in the “100 Most Influential People In The World” list once and also listed in the “100 Most Powerful Celebrities” 3 times is definitely bragging rights. He is almost 50 years old, but he doesn’t look like he is aging much, looks like he really is Benjamin Button.

Annnnnnd lastly, which we think is the NUMBER 1 ranking for this list is, ALL YOUR DADS!

You may be sitting there thinking that this is too dam cliche and you’ve wasted your time reading this, but think about it, without your dad’s winning moves in bed and his champion sperm, you wouldn’t be able to be sitting in front of your computer reading this. Right? So with that we would like to say Happy Fathers Day!

261 years ago, on this very day, the 15th of June, Benjamin Franklin performed his famous kite experiment which saw him flying a kite in the middle of a lightning storm in Philadelphia. The experiment was to proof that lightning is actually electricity, which he successfully did. Ben was also the first guy who categorized electricity into ‘Positive’ and ‘Negative’ which was previously called ‘vitreous’ and ‘resinous’ (Thank God!)

Ben’s experiment lead to the invention of the ‘Lightning Rod’ or more commonly known as a ‘Lightning Arrester” which you can find on most high-rise buildings or on any tall objects e.g Communications Tower, TV Towers, Water Tanks.

So if your birthday is today, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! and know that you share the same birth date as a kite experiment. YAY!

Jordan Son of Low “Black/Grape Ice”

Following up to yesterday’s post on the two AJs that are dropping tomorrow, we come bearing MORE good news! When we mentioned that this weekend is gonna be packed with heat, we really mean it. The Jordan Son Of Low “Black/Grape Ice” will be dropping this coming Sunday at Hoops Station.

Even after 20 odd years, Spike Lee is still very much a big influence in Jordan Brand with the ‘Spizike’ and ‘Son of Mars’ series. Falling right in line with the Air Jordan V “Grape” color theme, these pair features a very ‘Frankenstein’ look that pulls a few specific features from different AJ models and mashed into one, yet maintaining it’s own signature looks and it’s cool factor too. A tonal black upper and the Grape/White midsole provides a pretty clean “on-feet” perspective. Although a new series in the Air Jordan brand, this line has been quick to become one of the favs among Jordan fans.

Clovers and Grapes

This weekend will be a weekend packed with heat for all basketball sneakers enthusiast. The Jordan Brand will be releasing 2 highly anticipated sneakers this Saturday, the 15th of June, and the first one being the Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG – “Clover”, or more commonly known as AJ1 “Celtics”. This OG release honors the great rivalry between the Chicago Bulls and the Boston Celtics, more notably the rivalry between MJ and Larry Bird. In a new colorway of Clover/Black/White/Gold, the pair also features a “parquet” kinda design on the clover colored upper which pays homage to the old Boston Garden’s parquet wooden floor. Being an AJ1, the first “Air Jordan” wings logo is used and the “Nike Air” logo on the tongue tag too. The AJ1 “Clover” will be a Hoops Station Exclusive release only.

First released to the world 23 years ago and only retroed once, back in 2006, which may not seem like a very long time ago, but 7 years is still a very long time to wait for a re-release of one of the most favorite AJ5 colorways. The Malaysian public have been waiting patiently for this release as it has already been released worldwide since the month of April, but the wait is worth it. Not much introduction needed for this pair, but here are some of the features of the shoe which is a smooth white leather running the base, with purple popping up on the midsole and tongue. Emerald green graces the branding, mesh marks the midfoot, and black highlights the lining and heel. This pair will be made available this weekend at selected Nike outlets and also selected retailers.

The Way Of Wade “Encore” Series

While everyone has been fixated on the NBA playoff finals between the Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs, we on the other hand are more focused on what shoes the players are wearing. More specifically, our focus this time would be on what is on Mr. Wade’s feet and his line of signature shoes. In the month of May, Wade brought out the Way Of Wade ‘Encore’ shoes to tease the American people as his signature line is not yet available in the states. The new and improved ‘Encore’ series utilizes the same upper as the Way of Wade, but the upper has a few more distinctive design cues like the lower cut silhouette, the mesh-like vents, stylized perforations, a camouflage-print lining, and an Air Jordan IV-like shoelace harness to lock down Wade’s explosive feet.

While everyone in America is dying to get their hands on a pair of Mr. Wade’s signature Way Of Wade shoes because it is still unavailable in the states, we on the other hand in Malaysia have been blessed to be in the Asian region and close to mainland China and the shoes will in fact be released here. The Li-Ning Way of Wade ‘Encore’ Series “Overtown” & “Announcement” will be made available at all official Li-Ning stores and selected retailers nationwide in the month of July, but a specific released date is still un-announced. A Skateboard Shoe for Your Golfing Needs

Back in day, there wasn’t a lot of overlapping between golf and skateboarding. We have come a long way since ‘Back In Day’, and in these present day, Eric Koston is a fine example of these 2 sports overlapping. The shoe features the same upper on the Nike SB Koston 2 which is spotted in a sleek black leather that incorporates Nike Golf’s groundbreaking “Integrated Traction” technology with Nike world-class Swingtip outsole. Lightweight and comfortable, the Koston 2 IT maps out foot pressure via Lunarlon inserts and adjusts the flexible spikes accordingly to give you that proper performance edge without having to walk around on hard spikes all the time.

The black leather colorway and subtle red accents are a definite winner to rock anywhere else besides golfing, and definitely a sweet pair to rock with those plaid pants when you set foot on the golf course.

KLIK Festival

The local clothing scene is currently a blooming one, and with many new brands sprouting up, it’s safe to say that it is also a very exciting one too. An active scene means a healthy scene, and it is good that the local clothing scene is looking more and more healthy by the day, which is a good thing to help raise the standards of our local scene, which is exactly what this event is all about.

The ‘Kuala Lumpur Independent Klothing’ Festival, also known as KLIK Fest is all about raising the standards in our local clothing scene, and of course, to increase awareness and exposure of our local brands to the general public. This festival is a joint effort by a few local brands, RARE, Attack Apparel and JunkCult to name a few. So basically it is an event by the brands for the brands. Happening this coming Saturday, 15th of June 2013 at White Box, Publika from 11am onward. Be sure to pay a visit and check out some of our local clothing scene’s leading brands.

Pestle & Mortar X Beautiful Machines
