One of the pioneer brand among our growing pool of local streetwear brands in Malaysia, celebrated their 10 year anniversary. And yes, 10 bloody years is really long time for any local brand to stick around especially in our local environment and to celebrate their anniversary, Devise has produced a special line to commemorate this momentous achievement called “10 Bloody Years Anniversary Collection”.

The line spots a very typical ‘Devise’ feel to it. The whole collection is either in black or in shades of black, which is what Devise is well known for; simple, elegant and black in color, or shades of it. Also the lookbook for the line uses the shop owners of some of the shops that carry the brand as models. superbo!

Head on over to the lookbook link here to have a further look at the full collection.

943510_659363940744948_702269504_n

From the title itself, “#KKSKATEFILM: First Flight” is a skate film shot in Kota Kinabalu. Simple and straight to the point right? This film is the brainchild of Nasri from Point8Cam who came up with the idea and brought Faris from TapauTV onboard to help with the production of it. It’s also a joint effort by Pestle & Mortar, Krookz KL, Midas and Principle Footwear

The short film will be screened at Wanaka the Bungalow, HQ of Pestle & Mortar this coming Friday, 5th of July at 6 pm. Whoever is interested to go and check it out, make sure to RSVP at the events page here. Oh yeah, do check out the teaser of the film below.

MONARCHII x SBTG x Pras The Bandit

IMG_0537

One of our local brands, MONARCHII, which is already almost in their 4th year, approached two of the most prominent street artist in South East Asia, SBTG  and Pras The Bandit of the RoyaleFam and came together for a sweet collaboration and produced one hell of beautiful line of custom sneakers. For those of you who don’t know, Mark Ong aka SBTG hails from our neighboring country down south, Singapore and is guilty of producing quite a few kicks that are considered “Holy Grails” to some collectors around the world. He shot to fame after he won NikeTalk! back in 2007 and instantly was revered as one of the best sneaker customizer in the world.

Pras The Bandit, also hailing from Singapore, is the first curated artist to come out of Mark Ong’s SBTG Art Academy. Pras has already done a few collabs with SBTG himself, like the Pras X SBTG “Op Kino”, “Toxic Revenge” and the “Rolling Thunder” wihch are also considered ‘Holy Grail’ material because of it’s design and limited quantity. These sneaks are also very military inspired like his mentor SBTG, but yet still having his own interpretation and signature to his designs.

The first pair from the series is the Nike Dunk Hi which has only 10 pieces produced. The AirMax90 and the AirForce1 has only 2 pieces each model and lastly is a 1 of 1 Air Jordan 6. All models spot a tiger theme, with the red and black tiger camo being most prominently used coupled with some black and yellow tiger stripes offered in velvet being placed at selected parts of the shoe. Also the use of selvedge  denim is seen beautifully placed at random spots that accentuate the shoe and its looks. The designs of all 4 models were spearheaded by the creative director of MONARCHII himself, Fooi.

SBTG and Pras The Bandit have been responsible in churning out one of the best custom shoes in the world which many regard as ‘Holy Grails’ and an effort being initiated by one of our own local brands is something worth shouting about. Many shoe collectors and enthusiast  have said that the era of custom shoes are over and that it is a dying art, but that’s where they are wrong. Art will always be art. In our opinion,  good art will always last through the times. We foresee this line as being the line that pushes the envelope of the sneakers culture locally and in the region, and also becoming one of the ‘Holy Grails’ for some of the sneaker collectors locally, if not internationally.

The pack of custom sneakers will be made available for purchase from the MONARCHII online store at 8 pm tonight, the 1st of July.

It’s “Finally” Here

finally1

Pretty sure you guys have seen the leaked pictures online for awhile now, and also some pretty detailed pics of it. And after months of teasing, the FTC x Nike SB Dunk Low “Finally” is…… well, finally here!

Arguably one of the best looking dunks we’ve seen so far for year 2013 and with the help of hip-hop legend Del Tha Funky Homosapien on the graphics, its hard to argue otherwise. The shoe release is to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the legendary San Fransisco skate shop FTC’s first ever skate video entitled “finally”. The shoe features a premium construction in full-grain leather and suede in a colorway inspired by the box colors of the original VHS skate video.

The shoe drops tomorrow (Saturday 29/6/13) at Showroom @ Berjaya Times Square. And here’s more pictures for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy.

Check out the latest video by Noh Salleh, frontman of local band Hujan together with Aizat Amdan who became famous by finishing 7th in the reality TV show ‘Akademi Fantasia 5’ . The video is pretty simple but amusing at the same time and of course the song is catchy as hell.

MTTM 1 : 0 SUPREME

mttb1

Well it looks like we were only half way through our popcorn and the show is already over. What a bummer. Why? Cause James Jebbia of “Supreme” has agreed to drop all legal action, which means the $10 Million lawsuit against the original “Supreme Bitch” – Leah McSweeney and her company Married To The Mob. This is somewhat a pretty fast ending to a supposedly long movie. More like premature ejaculation. Or in Malaysian terms “Potong Stim”. Check out the official letter stating the dismissal of the case below.

Although what happens between Supreme and MTTM is totally unrelated to us here in Malaysia, but we are pretty sure there are many “Supreme” fans, and also some haters here in Malaysia, and we would like to know what you guys think. Do you think that this is a publicity stunt by both parties? or did James chicken out because he would look pretty uncool for suing MTTM? or is he just afraid of the original “Supreme Bitch”- Leah winning the case? What do you guys think?

The “Brown Eyes,Blue Eyes” Experiment

Watch the video to see an experiment done back in 1970 performed by Ms. Jane Elliott on 3rd graders (8 years old) in the United States. Ms. Jane made her 3rd graders hate each other for the best reason imaginable, which is to let them feel first hand what discrimination is like and how it goes hand in hand with racism. One of the highlights of the experiment is when a boy name Russell used  “brown eyes” as a derogatory term to call John names, only a couple of hours into the experiment.

Bottom line, whether or not you’re brown eyed, blue eyed, black eyed or the Black Eyed Peas, or whatever race you are, you wouldn’t like wearing a “collar” for being you, so don’t put a “collar” on anyone else.

MONARCHII “Peony Floral” Camp Cap Pack

For those of you guys who don’t know what a “Peony” means, we have contracted the help of every student’s best friend, ‘Wikipedia’:-

Paeonia (peony or paeony) is a type of flowering plant, the only genus in the family Paeoniaceae. They are native to Asia, Southern Europe and Western North America. Boundaries between species are not clear and estimates of the number of species range from 25 to 40. The peony is named after Paeon (also spelled Paean), a student of Asclepius, the Greek god of medicine and healing. Asclepius became jealous of his pupil; Zeus saved Paeon from the wrath of Asclepius by turning Paeon into a flower, which is the peony flower.”

Now that you guys know what a peony flower is, check out MONARCHII‘s latest upcoming release, which is the “Peony Floral” Camp Cap. The cap will be released tonight in both red and blue peony floral prints, which is the same print used in their previous collection release almost 2 months back.

Be A Man, Do The Right Thing

Some of you may still be recovering from all the camping that went down last weekend, but now is not the time to be weary as Hoops Station is set to release another pair of shoe this coming Saturday. The Jordan Son Of Low “Do The Right Thing” aka “DTRT” will be hitting shelves this coming Saturday.

The Jordan brand is bringing back the DTRT colorway which was last released back in 2007 in the form of a AJ3 that paid tribute to Spike Lee’s movie, “Do The Right Thing”….duh! The colorway is inspired from the original artwork of the movie’s poster. Some extra features to this version that is different from the 2007 AJ3 version is the speckled midsole and the Pimento red that’s on the pizza delivery uniform worn by Spike’s character in the iconic film.We will also be sharing the official drop date with the rest of the world, which is the 29th of June but the interesting part about it is that the movie “Do The Right Thing” was released on the 30th of June back in 1989.

So, pack your tooth brush and sleeping bags, I guess you’re sleeping on the streets again this weekend.
