Everything Seems So Hazy

691B928E-DF93-4F5E-BD09-D62485360CE2

The current haze situation in our country seems to be worsening with our PM Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak declaring an emergency status for Muar and Ledang with the API spiking  above 750, which is more than twice the API level of what is deem hazardous. As of 10am on Sunday, in Mersing, visibility is only 300 meters, the lowest recorded by the Meteorological Department.

Over in Kuala Lumpur, it may not be as bad as Muar and Ledang, but it is definitely getting worst by the day. Visibility in KL and it’s neighboring regions has been reduce to below 1 km. So this is a community service announcement by us at Masses, advising each and everyone of our readers to stay indoors and if you have to go out, make sure you wear your masks, if need be, wear goggles too. And don’t forget to drink LOADS OF WATER!

Ok, that’s enough of us mothering you guys. Enjoy the rest of the Sunday and stay safe.

Don’t Read This Post And Go Skate

It’s that time of the year again where by you drop everything you do, grab a skateboard and go skating. There is something very liberating about cruising down a pavement on a wooden plank with four wheels and the wind in your face. Haven’t tried it before? You should. It’s something like riding a bike, something very child-like about it. Just that in the case of skating it’s way more exciting and somewhat scarier. Even if you think you’re old, you still should try it at least once, will definitely make you feel young again.

So if any of you guys are free tomorrow, head on over to this 2 spots, Farenheit88 & Berjaya Times Square in the golden triangle area to check out what “Go Skateboarding Day” is all about.

Coolest School Shoe In Town

The latest Nike SB Janoski offering will be in the form of a very clean, almost full white, velcro strap, low cut Janoski. Very similar to the one that was released last year in Black/White. This year Nike SB has released this babies just in time for the summer season, where we see white shoes being a big craze over in the States for their Spring/Summer season.

It’s a good, clean and cool effort by the famous Hong Kong skate shop, 8FIVE2 to come up with collaboration. The name for this pair, “Never In The Club” doesn’t need much explaining to do, judging by how the whole shoe is nearly all white. The usual lacing on the popular skate sneaker is replaced with two Velcro straps. The white premium leather upper with matching crisp white outer sole is nicely complemented with a light brown leather lining.

So for anyone that has some summer themed clothes to go with this pair or you’re just a school kid wanting bring the swag to school, head on over to Showroom tomorrow to cop a pair of this.

The Borak-Borak Sessions: The Azuwan from KLKiX

We invaded the home of the guy who is still kicking it for the sneaker scene in Malaysia, and doing it just cause he loves shoes and not for the fame and hype, Azuwan, founder of KLKiX.

As we scrummage through his shoe collection like we own it, he explains to us the phases that he has been through in his relationship with sneakers.

Tell us about your evolution of sneaker collecting.

At first I started out with collecting trainers, primarily AirMaxs. And when you start, you don’t really do your research and you don’t really have the know how to repair and maintain them. So I got really frustrated after seeing most of them start breaking apart and I sold all my collection, and left only one pair for me to walk around in.

After that I got into collecting New Balance, specifically the 1500s model. I had about 9 pairs of NB1500 back then and they were pretty expensive to collect. They also have a similar characteristic like the AirMax, which is they will crack at the sole area. Replacing a sole would be very expensive because a normal general release of NB 1500 would cost around RM699. After that I sold all my NBs and moved on to Nike SB.

When I started getting into Nike SBs, that time they were still using the black boxes. I had all models that were released in the black box. Pink boxes I had almost all too. Almost. Besides the Dunks, I was very much into the Janoski models and I collected all of it up until the point where I sold all my Janoskis away to an avid Nike SB collector.

Right now I sold off most of my SB collection, and a lot of my other shoes which I don’t really like anymore. Right now I just collect Airmaxs, trainers and anything else which catches my eye or is a limited edition or something very rare. I’m focusing more to QUALITY rather than QUANTITY.

What is your take on resellers?

Nowadays a lot of people are complaining about resellers, saying that it is bad for the scene and all, but come on, resellers are nothing new. They have been around for so long. Ini dah cerita lama.

I honestly resell too. But I don’t line-up overnight to buy an expensive shoe at RM499 and resell it at RM1000. I buy roshe runs that nobody wants for RM99 and resell them online at USD100. Reselling will always be part of the shoe game. As long as the hype is there, there will always be resellers cashing in on the hype.

What’s your take on the current shoe scene in Malaysia?

There will always be collectors, there will always be sneakerheads, and there will always be kids that go like ” Oh Shit! this shit semua orang pun nak, aku pun nak! ” who don’t really care about the history of the shoe or the knowledge about it or even the shoe itself, they just want to look cool. Hypebeast will always be around and that is how it is.

Also, no matter how much we try to spread the love in the scene, there will always be that one dude who will hate on everyone else’s game. “Kasut kau ni tak hype la” or “You just only collected few pairs of shoes nak berlagak otai” ever heard of this kinda phrases before? So everyone just needs to focus and love their own shoes, or the shoes that they are planning and wanting to get instead of hating on other peoples shoes. I believe if everyone does that, the scene will be much healthier.

Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG “Black Toe”

The highlight for this weekend, besides the release of the Lebron X “Denim” and the Air Jordan 5 “Black Grape”,  would be the Air Jordan 1 ” Black Toe”. This pair is a must have for all AJ fanatics as the 1985 version of the “Black Toe” were strapped to the feet of Jordan during the photo shoot for the Jordan Brand logo, which undoubtedly is one of the most recognizable logo in the sportswear world. For that very reason, the latest re-release of the “Black Toe” will come with the title OG that sees the tongue spotting the original “Nike Air” tag, which is identical to the 1985 version. The release is officially a white/black-gym red one with red taking care of the heel and outsole and black surrounding the toe box, the lace collar, and the Nike Swoosh.

Due to its limited quantity, this pair will also be made available for reservations only to Hoops Station VIPs.
