5 High End Accessories That You Probably Shouldn’t Buy, But Want To

It’s Not About Why, It’s About Yes Or No

Written by Cheong Jane-Menn

Designers are slowly edging away from your traditional range of garments, handbags, jewellery and shoes. The first time I came to the realisation that I could buy myself a Chanel basketball from flipping through a magazine, my dreams of becoming an old man’s trophy wife (read ‘tai tai’), only got stronger. So, if you’re not extremely into the idea of investing in clothes and handbags but still want to own designer things, here are some designer items you can buy that will allow you to subtly flex your riches.

Louis Vuitton Ping Pong Set, £1400 (RM7423.01)

If you enjoy a little leisurely table tennis with your friends or if you need something to play beer pong with, this ping pong set is what you need. With professionally manufactured paddles, the set comes with paddle cases covered in LV’s signature monogram. Attached to the paddle is keychain to the paddle covers and is embellished with an LV circle that holds four logoed ping pong balls.

Prada Silver Money Clip, £125 (RM662.98)

Ever dreamed of walking into a store and pulling out a wad of cash at the counter? Look no further – if going cashless is not your thing, or if you’ve got more cash than your wallet can handle, this quirky money clip should serve you well. Designed like your favourite office desk essential, the money clip is has the brand’s logo engraved on the side.

Tiffany & Co Sterling Silver Ball of Yarn, $9270 (RM38882.09)

Possibly the most impractical object you absolutely need to have, this ball of yarn does not serve much function in all honesty. Created to showcase the label’s artisanal excellence and a tribute to Gene Moore’s eccentric window displays, the ball of yarn is a collector’s item for fans of the label. So, if you want to own some Tiffany & Co but don’t really fancy jewellery, this is something for you.

Chanel Skateboard, $7700 (RM32296.88)

Relive the days when you used to skate and destroy with this confused hybrid of a skateboard and a Penny board. Made of lacquered wood, the deck is cover in a criss-cross stitch print that emulates that of their handbags, along with black trucks and white wheels. On the griptape side is a sleek gold Chanel logo sticker, which gives new meaning to the term ‘boujee’.

Louis Vuitton Horizon Striped Earphones, £850 (RM4506.74)

Forget AirPods, these wireless LV earphones are your next best flex. These Bluetooth silicon earbuds are decorated in LV’s iconic floral monogram and accented with an orange and blue ‘L’ and ‘V’ on each side giving it a modern twist. It also comes with a matching mobile charging case that’s splashproof.

“RISE AGAIN” with VERDY’s Latest UNIQLO Collaboration

Written by Cheong Jane-Menn

With a loud sense of optimism and a spring in your step, UNIQLO has recently collaborated with up and coming Japanese graphic designer, VERDY. With street art influences to his designs, VERDY is best known for his projects, “Girls Don’t Cry” which landed him multiple collaborations with Nike and Undercover.

Having been friends with UT creative director, NIGO – VERDY thought it was a good way to introduce his art to a larger audience. Titled “RISE AGAIN”, the name of the collection takes from VERDY’s previous works which featured the line “RISE ABOVE”. The collaboration was made in the spirit of breaking boundaries and aiming higher despite the ever-evolving world we live in.

Made up of loose-fitted silhouettes, the collection features full of VERDY’s positive words of wisdom. From designs which highlight phrases like “I’m The Luckiest” to a ‘70s-esque design with the words “You Give Me Butterflies”, the collection is one that is enthusiastic with an undeniable sense of youth. A standout from the collection is the “Break The Mold” tee with the phrase printed in VERDY’s signature typography. Apart from that, oversized shirt dresses play themselves into the line, giving the collection a sense of femininity. Shot by NIGO and modelled by one of VERDY’s friends, Emma – the collection is one that was created with the motive to inspire.

“RISE AGAIN BY VERDY UT” is now available in all UNIQLO stores nationwide and online.

HYPE Clothing Co. Throws Back To The 90s In Their New SS19 Collection

The 90s hold dear to us in many nostalgic ways, from the introduction to our first game consoles all the way to the rise of questionable fashion choices by celebrities on the other side of the pond. But amongst the other facets down memory lane, we were reminded that bold graphics took center stage, and colours run amok on apparel.

HYPE recognises this, and is emulating it in their new line of garments for the Spring/Summer 2019 Collection. Mainly consisting of sports-inspired garments, highlight pieces include a jacket windbreaker with hidden hoodie and sling bag with utility pocket attached, flanked by the usual range of t-shirts and pants. Womens gets a bit more variation, featuring a long-sleeved crop top, pullover, and turtle neck crop sweatshirt with inner velvet lining.

Comfort never went out of style, and it certainly isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. The full collection is available now both online and i HYPE stores nationwide.

Release Details For The Yeezy 700 ‘Vanta’ Just Dropped

It’s a bit strange that it has taken Ye this long to release monotone versions of the shoe, having done so in the original release of V1s, namely the ‘Pirate Black’ 350 and the ‘Bred’ 350 V2. Maybe he’s playing his cards right to extend the hype as long as he possibly could. We’ll never know.

What we do know is that such a colourway will hit the Yeezy 700 model first, and it’s got us drooling all over its blackness. Aptly named ‘Vanta,’ suitably picked from a material with the same name that’s said to be one of the darkest mankind has produced, the 700 silhouette gets draped in black, and pretty much nothing else. That includes the outsole, midsole, laces, and paneling.

It is interesting to note that the 700 V2 silhouette is used, the same one as the ‘Static’ rather than following the footsteps of the ‘Analog’ colourway, and as historical purchases go, the 700 V2 seems to be the more popular iteration. What this means is that this will be a hotly contested model, and one that’s sure to stand out in the crowd.

No official store list is out yet, but we know that an online release will be available on June 6 an in-store release on 31st May for a price of RM 1400. A generous run of full size, grade school, and kids sizes are also available, so you can lace up your whole family tree with em. Ya’ll copping?

Nike Throws Back 20 Years With The Release Of The Tailwind IV

Not many shoes can attest to the title of ‘Most Shoplifted Shoe Ever In Australian History,’ but such is the case of Nike Tailwind IV, a revolutionary silhouette that defined the name, and the design.

Now this model of course is not for the cloutchaser, but rather, it represents the pinnacle of pre-New Millennium design, bridging the past and the future together into one silhouette. Highlights include being the first Tailwind model to feature Air Max cushioning at the heel and forefoot, as well as nods to the Air Max Plus.

Special Projects’ involvement in the silhouette is reflected in the changes in material, namely liberally using Ripstop fabric for the upper, The silhouette also gets donned in a digital tiger camo print, and if that’s a bit too much, one can opt for safe, grey/black colour instead.

Since it’s an SP shoe, expect the retail price to be a little bit more than the base RM 649, estimating at around RM 755 instead. The silhouette drops on the 28th of May, at Nike.com. Worth the extra?

Pestle And Mortar Kick Off Their Revamp By Dropping Their Largest Collection To Date

Total Refresh

Pestle and Mortar have been keeping it relatively quiet about their progress as a brand in recent times, with their last big shout being the LRT fashion show. Now though, as the smoke clouds have billowed over and the dust having settled to the ground, Pestle and Mortar are coming out in a new light, and in a much bigger way than anyone anticipated.

Refreshed, renewed, and laser focused, PMC reveals their biggest collection to date, dubbed ‘Super Sweaty’ 2019, comprising of 69 pieces that’s spread out across 2 drops. A play on the traditional SS moniker that typically denotes the season, Super Sweaty plays on the fact that Malaysia doesn’t fall under the four seasons category, having pretty much either the option of Super Sweaty, or Monsoon as its two main seasons.

The first drop, or ‘Delivery 1’ highlights the SEA contour as its key art, signifying the importance of drawing inspiration from a region. This thought is translated into a cartographic map, with the contours representing the map of Southeast Asia and its mountains and valleys are metaphor for the challenges that the brand has went through.

Other goodies include the limited-edition PMC x Ace luggage that for those who missed out on the first drop, as well as a bunch of new accessories and outerwear that adds a hit of diversity to the collection. Price ranges from RM 99 – RM 180 for the apparel, and RM 100 – RM 150 for the accessories.

The Pestle & Mortar Clothing Super Sweaty 19 collection is availble now for pre-order on their new site, and will launch nationwide at Major Drop Mid Valley, Sunway Pyramid and selected stockists on 31st May 2019.

Adidas Is Dropping The Yeezy 350 ‘Glow’ This Weekend

Pricier Than Usual Though

As Yeezys come and go, the brand has been continuously trying to step up its game. From adding a transparent sidestripe, it only makes sense for ‘Ye to go over the top and introduce this, a fully glow-in-the-dark version of the 350. Talk about a statement piece.

On the technical side of things, nothing has changed, but the story takes a different turn once you lay eyes on the Volt-esque upper. The internals follow the ‘Hyperspace’ colourway, while the most significant upgrade lays in the midsole having come equipped with glow-in-the-dark capabilities, for that extra night flex.

The announcement of the drop is made on Facebook, and it is an in-store release only at Adidas Originals KLCC that drops on the 25th of May. Price? Well, expect to pay a premium over the standard RM 990. At a price of RM 1300, it’s not coming in cheap.
