Quaint Habits “Apologies To The Digital” Campaign Lookbook

Quaint Habits “Apologies to the Digital” is another campaign from Almost Quaint and Film Habits. The aim of this campaign is to prompt people into rediscovering the beauty of old school film photography in spite of the ubiquity of digital cameras.

Beyond that, the campaign also wants to remind people of the history of film photography… and “that film is not dead”, which is a phrase that gives off a vibe similar to punk rock quotes like “Punk’s Not Dead”. In any case, DLSRs are overrated, so this campaign is a nice reminder that retro vibes and old school tech still have a place in the modern day.

Of course, this lookbook is dedicated to all film photographers out there around the globe. Have a look at some of the visuals below:

monoloQue ft. Aisyah Aziz: “Uda & Dara” (OST Pekak)

Some of you may have watched the movie “Pekak” when it hit silver screens nationwide earlier this 1st September. If you did, you would have experienced the surreal and haunting duet by Monoloque and  Aisyah Aziz in one of the film’s theme songs, titled “Uda Dan Dara”.

Aisyah Aziz’s soothing vocals in this roughly 4-minute track really adds to the fairy tale ambience… though based from the “Pekak” trailer alone, the film hardly depicts a rainbows and sunshine love story.

The film revolves around a deaf drug pusher named Uda (Zahiril Adzim), who was forced into the business so that he could pay for his impending cochlear implant surgery, which will restore his hearing. He eventually crosses paths with Dara (Sharifah Amani), a troubled schoolgirl who longs to escape from her oppressive father. The two of them soon form an unlikely relationship but find themselves facing many challenges ahead of them.

Have a look at the official trailer for “Pekak” below:

If you haven’t watched the movie yet, we highly recommended you schedule a date to the nearest cinema, pronto!

Here’s the original soundtrack of “Uda Dan Dara” by monolQue featuring Ayesha Aziz below:

Custom Air Jordan 1 “Bred” by 5feetcustoms Afiq Shukri

The authentic Air Jordan 1 “Bred” is a fiercely sexy piece of footwear to begin with, but this latest custom work on the pair by 5feetcustoms‘ self-proclaimed copycat artist Afiq Shukri elevates its pleasing aesthetic to dangerously jaw dropping levels.

It’s a venomously awesome tweak on the original “Bred” by adding bonafide python skin (yep, snake skin) and Italian soft skin liners, both of which were completely hand-stitched onto the pair.

Check out some more visuals of the custom work right below!

An Ice Cream parlour, T-shirt maker & Pin maker walk into a bar…

Merdeka Day may have just waltzed by, but with Malaysia Day just on the horizon our inner patriots and spirit of unity are still dialled up to eleven… and it’s even more so for this trio of distinct brands!

The ice cream specialists at Softsrve are currently joining hands with fashion label Third Culture and vibrant pin-makers Pantun Pins for a Merdeka-inspired collaboration.

The result? No, it’s not a piece of clothing made out of strawberry ice cream, with cute little pins to substitute buttons. That would have been really jaw-dropping awesome though, at least until the ice cream shirt concedes to Malaysia’s sweltering heat, leaving behind a sticky mess.

What they’ve got for us instead are oodles of cuteness, comfort and happiness in the form of a delectable Banana Milk Soft Serve ice cream, a minimalist Third Culture exclusive tee and four unique pins especially for Softsrve.

There’s probably a question forming at the back of your head at this point: “I’m all for cuteness, comfort and ice cream (a.k.a happiness), but what’s so “Merdeka-inspired” about this collaboration?”

The answer is not prominent in the goodies offered, but rather the groups that are offering them. The quality t-shirt maker, pin maker and ice cream parlour in question may have little in common, save for the fact that they’re all homegrown. They’re very different, but at their core they’re all Malaysian. It’s a timely reminder that there is unity and beauty in our diversity.

Celebrating together with these brands are a lineup of local talents they have roped in to share their very own Made-in-Malaysia stories of their journeys toward realising their dreams. You can read their individual stories by looking up Softsrve on their Facebook and Instagram pages throughout the month of September!

If you’re a pin collector, an ice cream aficionado or simply looking for a nice new white tee to add to your wardrobe, do check out this collaboration! Oh, and please remember pins are meant to be pinned on wearable items, not ice cream. Or you could just ignore tradition and do it anyway, like this:

The Softsrve x Third Culture x Pantun Pins Merdeka Collaboration will be running all the way up till October 2016.

MASSES Picks : Top 5 Budget Sneakers!

thumbnail_BEST BUDGET SNEAKERS

Yup, we know it’s hard to quench the thirst for sneakers, especially with an increasing amount of releases available locally and the ever-evolving trends. However, our wallet’s contents are finite, making the prospect of buying that new and expensive hyped pair a difficulty for many of us.

If you’re not planning on spending big bucks on sneakers, here are some cheaper alternatives to satisfy your sneaker cravings while still looking fly in the game.

vans-classic-slip-on-2-041. Vans Checkerboard Slip-On – RM179

Thanks to the influence of Fear Of God founder Jerry Lorenzo and Justin Bieber constantly flashing out the Checkered Vans, this pair is pretty much back to its glory days. It’s now mostly seen together with zipper pants for the FOG-Kanye vibes.

Converse-70s-Chuck-Taylor-Ox-Black-12. Converse Chuck Taylor 70’s Low ‘Black’ – RM239

It may look like yet another typical Converse pair, but the classic 1970s version will definitely be one of your daily beaters after you’ve tried them on. It’s one of our favourites here at Masses Studio!

roshe-two-blue-detail3. Nike Roshe Two – RM399

Widely accepted by runners and casual sneaker enthusiasts, the newly released Nike Roshe Two will keep your feet cosy while perfectly complementing your attire for a Saturday night party or providing the functionality desired for a Sunday morning jog.

a-closer-look-at-the-adidas-stan-smith-24. Adidas Stan Smith – RM350

There is a misconception that the Adidas Superstar is adidas’ best selling sneaker in history. If you think so, I’m afraid you’re wrong; the Stan Smith actually holds that title. HOW ABOUT THAT?! The best part about the Stan Smith is that you can both dress up and dress down with it, killing two birds with one… sneaker.

Vans-Old-Skool-Trainers-All-You-Need-To-Know5. Vans Old Skool – RM219

“Some days I’m in my Yeezys, some days I’m in my Vans”. Thanks to the mighty Kanye effect and some of the biggest names in the music and fashion industries such as ASAP Rocky and G Dragon, the Vans Old Skool is back in the limelight. Now go get yours and be a hypebeast!

If you’re even shorter on budget than usual and not willing to deprive your wallet of over RM200 for a single pair of kicks… well, you could always head up to your nearest bundle shop or facebook sneaker group to get some pairs using the most Malaysian method: “Bro, boleh nego ke?”

SXPH x Mean – “Sejuta”

“Sejuta” isn’t your run-of-the-mill, “hustle, ka-ching!” rap track. The song, masterminded by both SXPH and Mean, pictures how life and the people surrounding them would be if they were literally worth a million bucks.

The joint rap effort forgoes the pretentious attitude that is prevalent amongst its kin and instead implies the valuable message that money isn’t everything. On that alone, the track distinguishes itself slightly and is worth a listen. Or several listens, actually.

Mean is one of Singapore’s finest rappers, and he does a fine job in this track that was fully composed, produced, arranged, mixed and mastered by SXPH himself.

Check out the fruits of their labour in the video attachment below!

SXPH x Mean “Sejuta” Lyrics

(Chorus)
Juta, juta
Harap takkan buta
Bila dalam pocket aku ada wang sejuta
Harap takkan lupa
Harap ramai yang datang semua takkan buta dengan sejuta
Sejuta, bila ada wang sejuta takkan buta
Bila ada sejuta

(Mean)
Juta, Juta / Hope when I do get-get that milli
Pray to God that i’m still pretty and the family is still with me
All this harta and rupa, well it don’t mean nothing without happiness
And I hope that I don’t become ludacrious, when I get that money cos i’m new to this
Keep spittin’ like I never really got far, spit fire everytime I learn to drop bars
Hope I don’t forget myself when I rock stars
When I play the part and role as a rock star
Getting money is the number one thing
But without my family, it means nothing when I’ve got everything

(Chorus)
Juta, juta
Harap takkan buta
Bila dalam pocket aku ada wang sejuta
Harap takkan lupa
Harap ramai yang datang semua takkan buta dengan sejuta
Sejuta, bila ada wang sejuta takkan buta
Bila ada sejuta

(SXPH)
Bila ada wang sejuta jangan bising
Ambik semua wang kasi simpan dalam ceiling
Uhhahh – harap takde der der keluar sebalik dinding
Toleh kepala, dulu senyap sekarang bising
Uhhahh – jumpa pintu pakai kunci
Bila berjaya harap percaya aku takkan bunyi
Duit tinggi bukit mintak takde penunggu
Dan musuh bawah selimut tak genggam peluru
Nanti ada wang sejuta takkan buta macam kasim
Nanti ada wang sejuta takkan buat buat alim
Confirm iklim lain macam, macam nama aku Saleem
Harap dapat tau kau sehala atau pesaing
Orang ada wang sejuta, tangan susah kena gari
Ramai nak wang sejuta, satu hari boleh lari
Bila ada wang sejuta, cari wang sejuta lagi
Bila ada wang sejuta, harap badan takkan cari

(Chorus x2)
Juta, juta
Harap takkan buta
Bila dalam pocket aku ada wang sejuta
Harap takkan lupa
Harap ramai yang datang semua takkan buta dengan sejuta
Sejuta, bila ada wang sejuta takkan buta
Bila ada sejuta

There are more new stuff to come out from SXPH as a solo act real soon, so stay tuned by following him on his Facebook, Twitter and Instagram!

monoloQue : “Saya Anak Malaysia” (#monoloQueMeneroka Version)

Homegrown talent monoloQue has released their very own version of “Saya Anak Malaysia” which was recorded at a homestay near Alor Setar, Kedah during their tour. Made by the infamous Dr. Sam, this song is an impromptu rendition serving as tribute to “Ibu Pertiwi” in conjunction with Merdeka day.

It took 12 tries to get the whole song just right. It would have been quite hilarious and oddly fitting if it took 59 tries instead…

It’s a rather interesting interpretation of this timeless song, so do have a listen to their cover below! We’ve also linked the original song too if you’d like to compare the two!
