Timberland×monkey time capsule apparel collection

Almost a month after its release across our shores, the Timberland x monkey time capsule apparel collection has finally crossed over to Malaysia… thanks to Crossover!

The seasonal collaboration comprises primarily thick, robust clothing swathed in earthy or reserved tones. It presents a raw-hemmed hooded sweatshirt and a crewneck, both of which bear oversized silhouettes and imposed with Timberland’s large and iconic tree logo on the back.

The Timberland distinctions don’t end there, as the brand’s Yellow Boots’ shoelaces and eyelets make its transition to the back zip closure and armpit vent holes respectively. While the offering isn’t entirely practical for Malaysia’s sweltering heat and humidity, it plays right into our youth’s streetwear fashion tendencies with its rough and gritty aesthetic.

Rounding up the collection are triplets of six-panel caps that are available in an earthy palette of Stone, Dusk Blue and Java.

The Timberland x monkey time capsule apparel collection has been available exclusively at Crossover in Mid Valley Megamall since September 24th, so if you’re looking for casual and stylish clothing that isn’t overly in-your-face, do remember to head on over there.

adidas Originals = Pharrell Williams: Hu

The adidas Originals x Pharrell Williams collaboration – which made its debut in 2014 – continues with an upcoming collection of apparel and shoes that symbolise cultural diversity and human camaraderie.

Simply titled Hu, the collection presents a range of sneakers bearing simple typography elements in 5 new colourways, namely scarlet, black, sharp blue, green, and tangerine.

The visual distinctions anchoring Hu’s theme pay homage to the spirit of equality and co-existence, featuring flags, stripes, and translations of the phrase “Human Race” in English, French, and Japanese.

Hu’s footwear arsenal builds upon the yellow NMD trainer that hit the globe in recent July and as expected, features adidas Primeknit uppers and energy-returning white adidas Boost midsoles. The range also incorporates laces that are woven through the stabiliser of the shoe’s cage, offering both support and freedom. Further, the shoes distinguish itself from their yellow predecessor via an internal toe cap for a unique shape and a new modernised curved collar.

Each colourway is embedded with its own split slogan, such as “Hu Race,” “Human Species,” or “Hue Man.” The collection is vibrant, oozes youthful energy and harbours a story on humanity. It’s this last bit – the spirit in which the collection was inspired by – that makes Hu appealing beyond simple aesthetics.

adidas Originals = Pharrell Williams Hu launches globally on September 29th 2016 and will be available in Kuala Lumpur through live raffle at RM850 per pair.

Diadora x SneakerLah: DiadoLAH Sandal

Italian-based sportswear and fashion accessory brand Diadora is yet another name that has partnered with SneakerLah 2016, this time for an affordable piece of footwear. Cutely called “DiadoLAH”, these sandals are thin soled yet perfectly suited if you’re looking for casual comfort.

Some may consider this fashion statement ridiculous, but if you beg to differ you could rock these sandals on with socks to steep yourself in fashion hipsterism. Nike brought on the trend of sandals with socks early last year and the style seems to have faded into obscurity, so now might be good time get reacquainted with the quaint look!

Priced at RM50 each, and no it doesn’t come with the socks with leaf prints as seen below:

You can grab a pair of these sandals during SneakerLah 2016 this coming October 1st and 2nd.

CLLBR8 brings cancer awareness to fore through streetwear collabs

Capitalising on the popularity of streetwear among Malaysia’s youth, the CLLBR8 Project is an initiative that propagates cancer awareness by targeting younger locals who are enthusiastic on filling up their respective wardrobes with the latest and greatest in street fashion.

Even simple typographic prints have appeal and the power to imprint a message among the masses. Emblazon that message on trendy streetwear and the result is a powerful tool for exposure, which is exactly what the people behind CLLBR8 have done.

The project has – in their words – “hijacked” popular streetwear staples and limited edition pieces, tweaked said items with their own designs that each detail a certain type of cancer.

The entity behind this youth “a-wear-ness” project is The National Cancer Society of Malaysia, that believes local youth aren’t as aware about cancer as they are about streetwear releases. Cancer isn’t an ordeal exclusively suffered by those in their golden years; depending on the type of cancer, there is a high probability of the disease ailing people ranging from infants to 35 years old as well.

By enlisting the help of streetwear labels, the brands’ respective consumer bases can transition from simply fussing over their external appearances to being concerned about their internal well-being too.

“Youths have a better chance of fighting cancer, but before they can fight cancer, they have to know it. The National Society of Cancer Malaysia has support groups catered especially for young folks. This was the perfect avenue to start talking about it,” the group stated.

Here are some of the designs the project has influenced so far:

These designs, among others, will be made available for a cop in the next couple of weeks.

CLLBR8’s work has just begun and brand new designs to create even more awareness on cancer – as well as other diseases that affect young people – are on the cards for the future.

dough%20key%20still_396601_resize_1524__1_1

It’s roughly about 3 months to the end of 2016, time sure flies! This week, we have a humorous story of religious and racial harmony, a thriller centred on girl’s troubled past, a traditional vampire anime movie, delinquents in a juvenile detention centre and a coven of witches who torment a family. Have a good watch and by the way, if you didn’t already know, Sneakerlah will be held next weekend. Hope to see you there!

1. Dough (2015)

Who says a Muslim and a Jew can’t get along? In this heartwarming tale that defies typical stereotypes of race and religion, a struggling Jewish baker hires a Muslim apprentice to work at his bakery. Despite the initial awkwardness in the beginning, they soon form a close bond especially when the pastries start flying off the shelves. But what happens when the baker finds out that his young apprentice has been mixing weed in the dough?

2. Dog Pound (2010)

Ever wondered how life in a correctional facility feels like? This movie will make you think twice about committing crimes. 3 teenagers from different backgrounds end up in the same juvenile detention center and soon become friends. They soon realize that life there isn’t as easy as they thought it would be with cold officers watching over them and the bullies looking to make their life a living hell…

3. Intruders (2015)

Anna has recently lost her brother Conrad to pancreatic cancer. On the day of her brother’s funeral, Anna doesn’t go because she suffers from agoraphobia. But on that very day, 3 men have broken into her home thinking it would be easy to loot. Finding Anna, they initially find it easy to restrain her but little do they know about the secrets of the house that Anna plans to use against them..,

4. Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust (2000)

If your idea of a vampire is more along the likes of Anne Rice’s novels than bloodsuckers that glitter in sunlight, this animated movie is just for you. The titular character, D, is a dhampir, a half-breed child of a human and a vampire. On a quest to save Charlotte, who has been kidnapped by Baron Meier Link, the Marcus brothers and Leila, who has a strong hatred of vampires, are hot on his trail. Thrilling to the very end with epic fights and the appearance of a nemesis of D’s father, this film ought to satisfy any blood cravings you have.

5. The VVitch (2015)

Set in 17th century New England, a man named William is banished along with his family from the Puritan settlement they have called home. Building a new home near the edge of a forest, mysterious events begin to unfold starting with the disappearance of William’s youngest son. All fingers point to William’s eldest daughter Thomasin, but something much more sinister is at play. Will their faith protect them from the evil that threatens them or will they be consumed by its madness?

Rastaclat x SneakerLah Reflective Black Bracelet

The upcoming SneakerLah 2016 convention in STARXPO Centre at the start of October is a great excuse to bring together the avid sneakerheads of Malaysia – as well as the average shopper – to buy, talk about and show off killer kicks.

The event, which is expected to witness roughly 30,000 footfalls, has foot fashion as the focal point… but by extension, the convention also celebrates street culture. The wearables available at SneakerLah also include this stylish collaborated effort with Rastaclat as seen right below:

This collaboration marks the first time the bracelet and accessories heavyweight has teamed up with a Malaysian entity! This black bracelet, made specifically for the event, is essentially shoelaces for the wrist; a minimalist and gorgeous complement to one’s street-styled, casual, or smart-casual attire.

Bearing the patented and classic Rastaclat aesthetic, the piece incorporates 3M reflective on the centre lining of the braided shoelace material for a nice contrast and added cool. The single barrel hardware binding the whole bracelet together is emblazoned with both Rastaclat’s lion logo and the SneakerLah logo.

If you fancy an accessory to adorn your naked wrist, this RM69 bracelet is an affordable yet amazingly stylish option for almost any occasion! You can pre-order the item now before picking it up at the convention on either October 1st or 2nd.

MASSES Picks: Top 5 “Summer” Sneakers

Before you read further, remove the word “budget” from your dictionary. None of the gorgeous summer kicks here are even remotely bundle buys. If your wallet’s obese (or if you never took financial management classes because you were too busy worshipping the swoosh, three stripes or what-have-you), the sneakers listed below are truly head-turners. Some would argue that’s enough to justify the cost.

In any case, since Malaysia is practically summer all year round, we listed out some of the best “summer” (well….. sort of) sneakers you can get your hands on.

nike-flyknit-presto-np-3

2. Flyknit Presto – Bearing the slogan ‘Tee Shirt for your feet’, the Nike Flyknit Presto is not a stranger to the realm of true fashion. One of the world’s best dressed man, Eugene Tong even has two of these in his personal closet!

3. NikeLab Air Footscape Woven Multicolor – The ones that first released in 2012 now have a whooping price tag of over 1 grand on the resell market. These ones look slightly different, but the overall composition is still what we call ‘chun!’

yeezy-350-v2-closer-look-2

4. adidas Yeezy Boost 350 V2 – ‘Yeezy, yeezy just jump over jumpman’. After countless rumours about the next 350s, adidas has teased the release on their social media. The latest 350 features a solar red strip over the sneaker. Sexy and a definite cop over drop.

5. Wtaps x Vans Bones Pack – The return of the crossbones saw the collection sold out within the first hour of the release, two weeks ago from the time of writing. The heavily military-inspired Japanese brand fuses their philosophy of “placing things where they should be” together with several classic Vans silhouettes.

That’s a wrap for our best summer shoes, drop us a comment bellow if you have any shoes that you would love to rock all year long. That’s it folks, till next time!

ThaSmoosh: “FLY BURGUNDY HENLEY” & “BRONCOS RUGBY POLO”

Local independent clothing brand ThaSmoosh have released another capsule collection that possesses a touch of class, woven together with streetwear sensibilities and a slight old school vibe. The eye-catching piece of the collection is the vibrant “Bronchos Polo Ruby” that unknowingly re-imagines the United Arab Republic (UAR) flag as a polo t-shirt, minus the two stars against the white middle. We’re kidding.
The collection also includes the “Fly Burgundy Henley” tee for a cool street vibe, and the TSH dad hat that’s a welcome wardrobe addition to the typical baseball fan. The designs and aesthetic of both products are tastefully simple. Have a look for yourself:
