The song is actually an old number written by Along Zip Zieller back in circa 2002. The best part about the song is that it blends all kinds of music elements like reggae, rock and blues, making it a rather unique experience to listen to.

A view of Seshan Design’s SS3 Residental House

0022

Plenty of us can appreciate the aesthetic and class of a well designed abode, and the SS3 Residental House that’s located in one of the largest residential suburbs in Petaling Jaya is nothing if not an example of modern elegance. A gorgeous bungalow by Seshan Design, the home follows the current trend of a raw, industrial aesthetic that’s a hit with the younger generation of local architects. While there’s plenty of untarnished fairface concrete, cement screed and plaster and bricks all around, the look is balanced with “finished” elements, adding much needed contrast and modern edge.

One might think such a contemporary home would be furnished with a series of modern furniture, but again, contrast of the old and new happen to work well here. The home boasts a vintage collection of old furniture, lights, artwork and other assortments, making for a unique abode that blends the classic and the current nicely.

Playing with high volumes also gives another dimension to the space and combined with an open horizontal light of sight like the open view to the pool from all the main spaces of the ground floor it makes the user experience the entire house as a much larger space than it actually is. The larger volumes also allow for increased natural lighting and more cross ventilation.

The main double volume living space was done entirely in free form fairfaced concrete as the main feature for the entrance of the house. The living room was done in broken Ipoh white marble which is a throwback traditional flooring which was very popular in Malaysia, back in  the  60’s and 70’s. The bedrooms were all finished in LEEDs certified, luxury vinyl tiles which had a timber grain look and feel. No matter which section of the house, it maintains an air of luxury all the way through.

There’s much more to talk about the SS3 Residental House, but we’ll let the pictures here do the place justice instead.

Yuna “Lanes” Music Video

Our favourite homegrown songstress Yuna Zarai recently released her new music video for her song called “Lanes”.  A quaint feature of the video is that the scenes are on rewind, so you’re going to see a lot of Yuna walking backwards. It’s a story about romantic betrayal and heartache that’s told from the end, not the beginning, making the visual experience slightly more intriguing.

Go ahead and watch her latest music video “Lanes”, directed by Brian Oh, below:

For those who haven’t purchased her latest full length album “Chapters” you can do so via iTunes if you want the digital version, or head to her official website here if you’re keen on a physical copy instead.

From Victor To Surrender by Reformist Rebellion SS16 Collection

If you guessed that Reformist Rebellion is the name of a group of freedom fighters, you’d be wrong. It’s actually a fashion label that’s nonetheless been fittingly inspired by the history of World War 2 in its 2016 spring/summer collection, “From Victors to Surrenders“. The collection’s first instalment is small scale, consisting of one black and one white tee bearing a sexy graphic of a tattooed lady in skimpy army clothes, occupying a poker card-inspired frame.

The Marksmen Series: @silent.unseen

Hey guys, welcome back to another episode of the Marksmen Series! We have been gone for awhile and we truly apologize for that but we have a totally good excuse for that. We were busy. LOL!
Anyways, this time around, we are featuring Shafiq Sani, aka @silent.unseen. Many of you may know him as the dude from at the Deciders Plus store, but what most of you guys don’t know is that he is a film photographer that specializes in Black & White photography. We recently caught up with him for a short interview as he prepares for his photography exhibition titled “Lost is Paradise” which takes place today till Saturday (1st – 4th June 2016).

When you’re lost, you won’t find yourself, but you’ll find God. And only from there will you find yourself.

First things first can you please introduce yourself, what do you do, and what do you do for fun besides photography? My name is Mohamad Shafiq Mohd Sani, 25years old. Currently based in Subang Jaya. I work as the Store Manager for Deciders Plus and when I’m not working or taking pictures, I just chill and skate.

How did you first get into photography? I guess I got interested in it because of my dad. He’s a full-time photographer for some talent agency back in the day,  but my first experience was during my school trip 13 years ago, when my mother handed me her Yashica camera. After the trip, I came back with 3 rolls of exposed film. HAHA!

What kinda gear do you currently use? I use a NikonFM2 for my personal projects, a LeicaMini for my daily use and a Nikon D800 for my commercial work.
Which part of photography do you enjoy the most? There’s so many different things and different ways to enjoy photography because there’s so many types. That’s why I enjoy things differently in different scenarios. I enjoy doing street shots, or portraits of people, capturing the emotion of that moment. I also enjoy shooting skateboarding just for the sheer pleasure of capturing that moment when my friend lands his trick. And lastly, I love to shoot landscape shots, where the light, shadow and moment is just nice and to just be in awe of God’s creation.

Tell us more about the exhibition that you are doing? how did the idea of the exhibition came about? Have you heard of that phrase “in order to find yourself , you’ll need to get lost”? For me, I disagree with that quote.  When you’re lost, you won’t find yourself, but you’ll find God. And only from there will you find yourself.
Why black and white pictures and not colour? I’m colour blind, there’s some colours I can’t see. And I save the colour version only for myself.
Who are your favourite local photographers? Ayul Rahman, Shah Azman,Fauzan Fuad and ImaginNadia
Can you let us in on what are your future plans?
This is the 1st series of the project. And I’m working on a video project called “Life;Error” which will be out sometime in August/September.

If you like Shafiq’s work, please feel free to follow him on his Instagram here and be sure to check out his photo exhibition happening from the 1st – 4th June 2016 at Stakes Shop in Bangsar.

Inundated & Unheard: The Bertam Baru Story as documented by @Bryzoid

The 2014 Kelantan floods were one of the worst in recorded history. Although there have been regular occurrences every 2 – 3 years, the flood escalated beyond anyone’s expectations.  As bad as the floods were, the good people of Kampung Bertam Baru have persevered through the tough times, a testament to the resilience in this tightly knitted community.

In the midst of all the beauty in the land, there’s always a dark side to nature. TRCRC received a call from a local Kelantan NGO asking for some support to restore the banks that were destroyed during the floods. Pictures from the flood already painted a clear picture of the destruction, but being in the centre of where the damage was at its most, in person, really puts the power of the floods in perspective. The floods reached a peak of 20m above ground level, inundating the whole village, destroying homes, and displacing people. The rail services was affected in the East Coast causing transportation to stop immediately in these areas. The Bertam Baru train station particularly was wrecked by the flood causing the train ride across the bridge to be disrupted. The locals told us that the flood rose as high as the bridge and to never underestimate the power of flood.

Upon arrival to Bertam Baru we were greeted by the Ketua Kampung (Village Chief) and his faithful council. Along with Dr. Dzaeman and Dr. Tajang from TRCRC, we were invited into their humble homes and they shared about the challenges they were facing. I was caught off guard listening to their stories about the devastated land during the flood and their efforts in redeveloping the village. A year later after the flood, i can still see people staying in temporary shelters. Planting trees and restoring the banks may not directly solve a lot of the problems faced by these people, but we hope it can mitigate future flood effects on the village. We were brought around to observe the affected areas of the village along the river and to distinguish the zones to be restored.

While there are plenty of petrifying statistics out there, I think TRCRC’s work in Bertam Baru will provide tremendous exposure in identifying and tackling this issue. Communities in some areas face a series of threats from destructive climatic events regularly. It destroys homes, cultivated land, livestock, businesses and even human life.

In retrospect, I am are truly grateful to be living in the city, even though yes, floods do occur but it’s not as detrimental as compared in the outskirts. The living condition is poor and their incomes are mainly from growing and distributing farm goods such as vegetables, and fruits. It has it’s importance in the economy and what me and the team at (TRCRC) aim to do is help the community to sustain their businesses by restoring their land. It has given me a bigger picture to how things cycle in life and through this experience, it doesn’t matter who you are, what you do, everyone can do their part in lending a hand to the needy.

That being said, you can reach out to the various groups/organizations already working on the ground and support them in any way you can as a volunteer. In the present time, you might feel your contribution is small but the road to recovery will be long and fuelled by continuous public support. It is your help that enables us to change and transform lives for the community, significantly for the better.

Signing out,

Bryzoid
