HYPE Clothing Co. “Keep True” Spring/Summer 16′ Collection

Keep True Media Pressf_v

HYPE Clothing Co. greets this season by delivering its “Keep True” collection that is based on the adventure of wildlife, nature and camping activities. The collection’s name is derived from the idea to “go straight”, adopted from navigation bearing used by campers to give directions. It is appropriated to this collection for an inspiration to keep moving forward in life and better ourselves.

The collection is mainly inspired by the U.S.’s great wildlife and dream destinations for all campers, Yosemite National Park in California which is 95% nature with no construction whatsoever and the popular Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona. Both hold a very preserved nature and great adventurous sites.

Keep True” focuses on tees bearing prints of inspiring and profound quotes relating to the outdoors, while the colour palette for the collection is centred on earthy tones to harmonise with its theme.

The collection sees HYPE’s special, limited edition windbreaker jacket introduced, constructed of cotton-face with no lining to provide both warmth and easy breeze at once.

Clothing under this collection consists of S/S t-shirts, raglan in both S/S and L/S, a crewneck sweater and hoodies for men’s and selected t-shirts for the ladies. The collection is now available at all HYPE stores.

The Hundred Summer 16′ Collection

The Hundreds has re-engaged with its California roots in workwear, pop and surf culture in its latest collection for Summer 2016. The collection utilises the brand’s classic silhouettes and outfits them with lighter textiles, such as cotton linen and loop terry. This will be a welcome update to its classic looks considering the warmer shift in the global climate, which is exactly what the brand attempts to address in this collection.

The Summer 2016 “Wilted State” custom pattern, for instance, involves an ensemble of hand-drawn California native plants from holly to lilac, fried egg flowers to black-eyed-susans. The print showcases dying flowers, drawing awareness to the drought’s effect on our agricultural landscape.

The “Coastal” short-sleeve woven is made of cotton linen, and is a lightweight piece that doesn’t absorb excess heat.

Meanwhile, the “Marvin” short-sleeve hoodie and “Pool” shorts are designed to be worn moments after leaving the water with their loop terry fabric construction and lightweight feel.

Another noteworthy mention is the “Slick” T-shirt, made from a loosely knit waffle pique piece allowing for newfound breathability and functionality.

The Hundreds Summer 2016 collection is available in Malaysia only at Major Drop, Goodfellas KL, The Cap City and Showroom KL.

UNIQLO x Hana Tajima Fall/Winter 16′ Collection

Once again, UNIQLO and British-Japanese designer Hana Tajima pair up to deliver its 3rd “modest wear” collection. This time around, the collaboration pays even more attention to detail, making sure fabric cuts do not restrict and allow more movement for the wearer. Key pieces were also added to the attires to give a continuous fabric illusion for added grace and fluidity, while other details like curves, asymmetry cuts, tie-backs were added to enhance the wearer’s silhouette.

Inspired by her father’s ceramic creations, the latest collection also features Hana Tajima’s unique prints and designs with organic elements, while the rest of the collection features a darker colour palette and special UNIQLO winter materials like the HEATTECH Fleece and Ponte.

The UNIQLO x Hana Tajima Fall Winter 2016 Collection will be available in all UNIQLO stores nationwide on 17 June 2016.

Excuse me, tumpang “LALU”

A local thriller is about to invade our collective consciousness thanks to this film trailer of “LALU” by Seeing Eye Film and WEAREKIX. Featuring local acting talents Deanna Ibrahim, Iedil Putra, Pekin Ibrahim and Ismail Jamaludin, the short film tells a story about three friends who, while on a road trip together into a jungle, were dazed by something they see far across a deserted lake. There’s no definitive date given on when it’ll be released, so there’s not much information about “LALU” to work with, but the trailer is interesting enough to raise an eyebrow. Hopefully the lack of a detailed synopsis indicates a lot of mystery as opposed to a barely coherent plot.

Monday Juice: Compass by Darren Ashley

Darren Ashley is running out of fruits to put on the cover of his Monday Juice series, meaning that an end to this particular biweekly offering is all but inevitable. One of the last Monday Juice tracks before the series bids farewell, “Compass” is a hypnotic harmony of electronic beats and breathless vocals condensed into a 3 minute short.

Behind the song nests a moral story to always search for something new, to journey on to chase your dreams. Perhaps “Compass” is a way for Darren to explain that he is ending Monday Juice to pursue new sounds and experience a different musical journey? Only time will tell. In any case, as a popular saying goes: “the end is simply a new beginning.”

Have a listen to one of his last Monday Juice tracks below:

LYRICS

Places we don’t go
Feelings we won’t feel
Faces we don’t show
Scars that never heal

Pay them with your time
Fake it till it’s real
Awake all through the night
Because you still remember why you’re still alive

Always searching
Past the shore
Floating way above the ocean floor
Wide eyed wonder
Just like before
Check the compass once again for something more

When it’s time
You will shine
Raise your heart unto the sun above
When you find
It’s alright
You were meant to be here from the start

Coursing through your veins
A million raging dreams
Lay it at your feet
Getting closer than you’ve ever been

When it’s time
You will shine
Raise your heart unto the sun above
When you find
It’s alright
You were meant to be here from the start

Have An “Ice Cream” With Beatburns’ New Music Video

Beatburns, a local alternative indie rock band based in Kuala Lumpur, recently released their latest chilling music video called “Ice Cream“. The band was inspired to write about unrequited love in the same way one would crave for ice cream.

Screen Shot 2016-05-20 at 1.46.47 PM

“You can crave all you want and you may never get it.  And everybody craves for ice cream, thus the title. The band put that as a metaphor to describe a person’s raw emotion when it comes to love. Easy to fall for, hard to get.  Easy to melt hearts but also easy to become cold as ice,” said Lynd, the vocals behind Beatburns.

“The video was actually conceptualized by the director, Nasir Mehmood who also worked on various Bunkface videos and Sakura band’s music video. I told him that we would like to stay true to the concept of the song.  Contrary to the title,  we wanted the video to illustrate a dark, disturbing state of mind and that’s what we got!”

Lynd added that the song positions ice cream as the metaphoric symbol of want, lust and love; something that we crave for but sometimes we just can’t have.

“Because not everything that we crave for is good for us,” said Lynd.

If you are a fan of bands that are very experimental with their sound such as I Am Giant, We Are The Emergency, Circa Survive or Of Monsters and Men, Beatburns is definitely another one you should give a listen to.
