Nike Air Max 90 Essential: A Twist on the Iconic Colourway

Ever since the Air Max 90 Infrared took the global sneakerhead community by storm, footwear super giant Nike has created multiple interpretations of one of the most popular running shoes ever, complete with its iconic white, grey, black and infrared colourway. We’ve seen the slimmed down Ultra reworks to the Reverse Infrared version, not forgetting the rebirth of the original version just last year. Now, another take on the classic Air Max is here, this time featuring a simple colour swap. This rendition, the Nike Air Max 90 Essential, dons a vibrant orange in place of infrared while a darker shade of grey takes hold across the upper.

Nevertheless, the iconic colour blocking stays intact, which is a look that Air Max fans will never get tired of. A pair that bridges comfort and timeless style, the Nike Air Max 90 Essential is available at Hundred% Lot10 and JBCC Store, priced at RM429.

Monday Juice: Darren Ashley “Question”

Yes, yes, the Monday Blues are over so most of us aren’t in dire need of a pick-me-up any more, but we doubt you’d complain about Darren Ashley‘s latest audio drop from his ongoing Monday Juice series. The music maker’s latest offering, titled “Question“, hits the sound waves rather tranquil initially but soon gets amplified around the 1:15 minute mark with a semi-heavy, almost psychedelic, electronic and upbeat melody. It’s worth noting that the transition in the song’s pacing throughout is pretty much seamless.

If you missed out on the track when it went live yesterday, go ahead and give it a listen right now!

If you are as hooked to this track as we are and can’t help binge listening to this all day, don’t forget to show your support for Darren Ashley by following him on facebook, twitter, instagram and sound cloud!

Royal Selangor’s Star Wars Collection Expands With Latest Line-Up!

SW III KyloRen_01

Much like our continually expanding universe, the fictional universe of Star Wars is ever growing, but in terms of its lore and cool, sometimes endearing or sometimes hated (Jar Jar Binks, anyone?) repertoire of characters. Naturally, this means that the range of merchandise and collectibles are widening in tandem, much to the joy of avid Star Wars fans.

If you count yourself among these fans, keep an eye out for Royal Selangor’s hugely successful Star Wars collection, an on-going collaboration with The Walt Disney Company Southeast Asia. This time around, the collection presents both new and old iconic characters and elements, including the Limited Edition Kylo Ren figurine leading their latest line-up!

Crafted with his distinctive mask on, reminiscent of his grandfather’s imposing form, Kylo Ren’s powerful presence as the leader of the First Order is meticulously contained thanks to the precise lines on his eyeless mask, the grainy texture and folds of his costume to his stance. It’s a menacing looking piece and a worthy tribute to Darth Vader’s apparent heir, elevated by the masterful level of detailing.

Other than Kylo Ren, the collection also includes a limited edition diorama immortalising the thrilling Podrace that afforded Anakin Skywalker his liberation from slavery. From the rocky cliffs of Tatooine to the massive engines of the small one-man craft, the unique features of this exciting scene are beautifully recreated in three dimensional form.

Other must-have collectibles include the sandcrawler trinket box and the R2-D2 canister, perfect for storing valuable keepsakes.

If you have the disposable income to hoard such a drool-worthy collection or simply want to ogle at these new figurines, you can view them at any Royal Selangor retail store, authorised dealers or online over here!

The Footprints Project by Pamela Tan

In conjunction with Air Max Day, the talented Pamela Tan devoted herself to a special project that fuses architectural know-how and sneaker design to create a true work of art. The Footprints Project is the brainchild of the architectural designer, who was inspired to engage in this project after hearing her brother, who is a avid sneakerhead, talk about the Nike Air Max Zero shoe.

Be Bothered about “Cannot Be Bo(a)rdered”

Flipping the urban skate term ‘Can’t Be Bothered’ on its head, Cannot Be Bo(a)rdered is a visual exploration of youth rebellion through skate culture that manifests in the featured works of 16 artists and collectives hailing from Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia.

Each artist exhibits an artwork using skateboards as a primary medium to challenge existing stereotypes, reconstruct new narratives in skate culture through different creative styles and visual expressions. The exhibition also showcases the urban, street DIY and visual culture, all of which are coexisting subcultures that are increasingly popular today.

Curated by Iman Ismail, Cannot Be Bo(a)rdered’s lineup of artists have backgrounds as varied as their styles such as Donald Abraham, Bambang “Toko” Witjaksono, Farizwari Fajari,  Popok Tri Wahyudi and Yasee Poh . Assembling to present a riot of expression are graffiti scene pioneers, trained fine artists, self-taught illustrators, graphic designers and architects.

The free-entry exhibition is currently held at Urbanscapes House, Medan Pasar since 23rd April and will go on till this coming 8th May. If you’re interested in immersing yourself in a visual storytelling experience on this youthful and energetic culture, do pay the exhibition a visit!
