Onitsuka Tiger Taps Christian Dada To Reimagine Its Staple Pieces

The third stage of Onitsuka Tiger’s 70th anniversary birthday bash is here, and this time round, has called upon Masanori Morikawa of Christian Dada to create a concept based on “products out of touch with adolescence.”

First off, Morikawa reiterated the shoe based on the “REBILAC RUNNER,” an Onitsuka Tiger legacy running shoe, draped in all black. The laces are the main highlight of the shoe, conjuring up an image of a crawling serpent and features design details derived from the main line that is DADAISM (the denial of existing systems).

Onitsuka Tiger’s urban sporty vibe is retained in the apparel, utilising soft materials to create the fashion brand’s iconic loose silhouette. The sides too are ventilated to combine function and form. Included are also jacket and pants in three different colours, black, dark green, and burgundy.

The collaboration asks you to be unafraid to express your own identity, and a testament to the exquisite fusion that is Onitsuka Tiger’s craftsmanship with DADAISM in luxurious expression.

The Onitsuka Tiger X Christian Dada is available to purchase on August 26th at Onitsuka Tiger KLCC and Mid Valley.

McDonald’s Bukit Bintang Has Changed Its Name To Mekdi

First spotted by a few netizens over the past few days, have become the subject of discussion on social media. Was it photoshopped? Is it a practical joke? A prank perhaps? Evidently not, as this is an official change, with a deep history behind it.

The localisation of the acronym McD is not without a cause, rather it’s done in conjunction with our upcoming Merdeka day, and celebrating the fact that the Bukit Bintang outlet was also the first McDonald’s outlet to open in the country back in 1982.

McDonald’s Malaysia vice-president and Chief Marketing Officer, Melatu Abdul Hai had this to say, “For the past 37 years, Malaysians have helped develop McDonald’s brand to what it is today. As an appreciation for their continuous support, we’ve decided to use the friendly nickname ‘Mekdi’, which is now synonymous with our brand.”

Also in celebration of our local culture, the fast-food retailer has also included Nasi Lemak into the menu, just because. A good nod to a little bit of historical significance, right in the heart of KL.

Anthony Van Engelen Receives The Most Technologically Advanced Vans Sneaker Yet: The AVE Pro

Don’t fix what’s not broke. Vans knows this particularly well, having its design unchanged for a very long time, yet still looks very relevant to this day. So it’s only a matter of time till an update is needed, and they finally got together and piled on the latest tech in their inventory to commemorate longtime Vans global team rider, Anthony Van Engelen.

Welcome to the AVE pro, a skate shoe that culminates all of Vans know-how to improve upon a tried and tested formula, and to great results. The AVE Pro changes the upper with Rapidweld technology, heat-fusing and bonding panels together for an extremely durable upper that eliminates tear from conventional stitching. Apart from that, the shoe also includes LuxLiner tech, integrating the tongue and internal lining for a more snug and consistent fit, and combined with a molded heel counter, increases lock and keeps the structure in place.

The Ultimate Waffle outsole now integrates a shank to allow a greater degree of flexing in the forefoot, while Ultracush is built-in across the midsole for maximum impact protection. The shoe is finished off with Duracap reinforced underlays in high abrasion areas to ensure durability is not sacrificed.

Van Engelen had this to say, “With the AVE Pro—my first cupsole in 15 years—we achieved a completely transformed upper with Vans’ Rapidweld technology and improved the grip and boardfeel in the sole overall. This shoe for me was a natural progression toward making a durable, technical skate shoe. Not only does it deliver a lighter, longer lasting shoe for skating—but it’s an important step in innovation for Vans to pursue as the leader in skate shoes.”

While no retail prices have been announced yet, the shoe is set to make a global debut tomorrow on the 22nd of August, 2019. Stay tuned for latest updates.

Nike And Levi’s Team Up To Ramp Up Nike ID

Customizable Denim Footwear

It’s not everyday that a collaboration of this kind comes along in the neck of the woods. Where previously we had Patta by You which included mashing together parts of the Air Max 90 and 95, Levi’s takes it up a notch with various customisation options for the Air Force 1 and Air Max 90.

Various materials and colourways make themselves available on the palette, from three types of wash for the denim, whether you want it distressed or not, to substituting it for corduroy, down to the colour of the stitching should you so desire. A ton of customisation options means you can go absolutely crazy on the designs.

While previously jeans have been known to be environmentally damaging to the ecosystem, Levi’s new FLX technique allows you to get the type of wash and finish that you want, all by harnessing the power of light so it does as minimal a damage as possible to the environment.

The Nike X Levi’s By You is available to play around now, with prices retailing for RM 495 and RM 609 for the Air Force One and Air Max 90 respectively.

Nike Harkens Back To The Early 2000s With The ‘Viotech’ Air Max 90

Waaaaaayyyyyyyy back when during the period where social media didn’t really exist and pre-internet sneakerhead was still a thing, it was incredibly difficult to get a hold of special regional releases as the internet isn’t as connected as it was compared to now.

During this time, or more specifically, the year 2001, Nike’s Japan division created an initiative otherwise known as the co.jp, which sought to create and release colourways in select locations in the country. One of them was this, the ‘Rainbow’ Dunk Low Pro B, which incorporated so many different colours that was so wild and colourful it actually turned out beautiful rather than becoming a colourful pile of mess.

The ‘Viotech’ moniker actually refers to the purple colourway thrown into the mix, and in its subsequent streak of rarity, has appeared in only a handful of other shoes before releasing in this, the Air Max 90 ‘Viotech.’

The colour roughly mimicks the same as the original, only opting for several shades lighter while still retaining the original ‘Rainbow’ palette.

For a piece of history, the Nike Air Max 90 ‘Viotech’ is available to purchase online for RM 579 now with still a good size run available.

MyBurgerLab Teases A Combination Of Krispy Kreme In Its Burgers Because They Can

Welcome To Sin City

A burger can be considered a canvas to many. For the many parts and ways that you can create to your own liking, it makes the perfect blueprint to test your creativity and limits on making the perfect burger. Unless you’re MyBurgerLab, and have very little regard for creating a normal flavour palette in their burgers, which leads us to the next topic: The Krispy Kreme X MyBurgerLab burger.

While little details have been released about this collaboration, co-founder Ren Yi has detailed on Facebook that it’ll come in two different flavours, chicken and beef and presents its own distinct flavours and concepts, but what is stealing the limelight is the fact that Krispy Kreme donuts are used in substitution of buns. My BurgerLab did host an experimental burger with ‘The Seattle’ a while back, using a sugar donut cut in two with coffee infused mayonaise to bring a whole breakfast palette in a single meal, but this is something new altogether, and we can;t wait to give it a try.

Keep a lookout next month when more details of this burger are released!

Airliftz Spreads The Love For Southeast Asian Girls In His New Single, SEA Gyal

Representation has always been a bit on the underside when it comes to this area across the pond from our Western neighbours, and it has always been about the Caucasian or African American women that get the spotlight most of the time in popular rap songs that hit out Spotify playlists.

But Airliftz doesn’t think so, and as such, has put forward an ode to celebrate the diversity and beauty of South East Asian girls in his new song, SEA Gyal.

And what a bop it has become. Underlining a mellow romance of R&B that underlines tones taken from the likes of Bryson Tiller and Jeremih, Airliftz details his love for the girls in the Southeast Asian region, a representation of the

Following a melody that proposes a mellow romance of R&B underlining tones from the likes of Bryson Tiller and Drake, Airliftz romanticizes having a woman by his side, in similar R&B fashion that lightly breaches sexual territory, painting a picture of the bedroom and the subsequent activities involved.

A great step in quality and diverse range in the hip-hop scene, and I’m glad that artists are taking bolder and bolder steps to create and materialise what they envision. SEA Gyal is available now on all streaming platforms as well as on Youtube.
