Written by Evely Tan

Japanese designer VERDY continues his collaboration with UNIQLO which has expanded tremendously from his first one . On this second collection of the RISE AGAIN BY VERDY, men’s related items are included in the collection as there is high demand coming from men as the first collection project was almost exclsusively for women’s. As such, the new capsule collection reflects that demand very well, as we break down into it in the coming paragraphs.

This time around, VERDY’s collection includes men, women, and girls wear while channelling his own passionate design ethos with detailed prints and embroidered styling. This collection has both bold and soft silhouette offering and highlighting the typography and graphics in harmony.

Other than the newly available menswear, totebags, girl’s sweat parkas and sweat dresses will also be included in the collection. The typography and graphics of the apparels will still include VERDY’s iconic rabbit character and alongside uplighting messages such as Break the Mold, Crank It Up and Where Dreamers Become Doers.

VERDY’s second collaboration with UNIQLO is set to roll out on Friday, September 6, at UNIQLO.com. Stay tuned for more details.

Supercrew Partners Up With Thai Streetwear Brand WVS.Subculture For A Special Collab

First seen on the KLFW runway, local streetwear brand Supercrew debuted their collection with famed Thai streetwear brand, We Vote For Subculture for a collaboration that crosses borders. This isn’t the first time a brand from our shores have met with other brands across the region, but this turned out to be one of the more daring approaches we’ve come across in the past few releases.

Dubbed “Subculture Crew,” the cross-cultural collab aims to build a lasting friendship with our neighbouring country as well as diversify the ranges of fashion and differences in the respective fashion industry and scene. Thai street influences are strong, bringing a myriad of bold patterns juxtaposed with a tie-dyed background that reminisces a grungier version of Wes Lang’s Wyoming merch.

Taking inspiration from the underground cultures of both Thailand and Malaysia, sees the creation of a few oversized tees, a chian wallet, caps, and a tie dye t-shirt made piece by piece from Farn of WVS.

The “Subculture Crew” collection is available now at the Supercrew flagship store while stocks last.

Pestle And Mortar Emulates Plenty Of Beach Vibes At Their Debut On The KLFW Runway

Lacking Any T-Shirts Whatsoever

Pestle And Mortar have been around for about 9 odd years now, and closing in on their 10th anniversary as a brand,. have decided to debut their latest collection on the Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week runway that promised a step out of their comfort zone, reshaping their image by challenging the perception of what was possible from the brand, and from the looks of it, they’ve delivered it on multiple points.

Split into two seasons dubbed “Monsoon 2019” and “Super Sweaty 2020,” the collection bears no t-shirts whatsoever, instead highlighting plenty of outerwear options, ponchos, bags, and pants.

Monsoon 19 draws its inspiration from the orange life preserver, converting its colour scheme and material grit into apparel that’s ready to encounter the rain wherever you may be.

The collection then transitions to Super Sweaty 2020, encompassing a summery vibe that brings bright colours and plenty of reflective items to suit the Malaysian sun. It’s also where the collection arguably shines, as plenty of never before worked on materials make their brand debut. Windbreakers draped in light refractive materials, individually tie-dyed cargo pants that are dipped separately before being sewn together, and a soft dusk gradient button up shirt and shorts are some of the best looks on the runway, and is a refreshingly original idea from the brand.

Look through the photos, and let us know which of the fits you like the best!

Southeast Asia Cina Drops A Killer Track Expressing Love To Our Local Carmakers

Western rappers have their fair share of songs dedicated to luxury car makers from the likes of Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Mclaren, Maybach (looking at you Rick Ross), Lamborghinis, Ferraris and what have you. Naturally then, seeing as we’re in Malaysia, we have all the necessary ingredients to emulate a song from the people across the pond: A lit rap scene, and our very own local car manufacturers.

South Johorean Chinese rap group Southeast Asia Cina comprising of RAPKEYS, MIM1C, KILLERHAZE, RANDY.TS recently just dropped a track expressing their love for the notorious line of Perodua cars from the likes of the infamous Myvi, Bezza and a little bit of Proton sprinkled on top. The song speaks of the practicality of our local cars, cars with a do-it-all attitude that gives no fucks about the climbing angle, speed, acceleration, and near endlessness of customisation options.

A joyous track, that will strangely boil the patriotism in you, befitting as Merdeka Day approaches us. Watch the video above, and show some love to the workhorses that keep our nation going.

This Adidas ZX 4000 4D Comes With A Ridiculous Price Tag

4D technology has been around for a while now, citing adidas’s next big innovation after Boost, and pretty much seen as the most probable successor to the technology. Only problem is, adidas is trying to increase its manufacturing speed to satiate the hearts and minds of consumers, but it’s slowly getting there. Whereby before this you either had to be a close friend of someone from the company or be mind bendingly rich to own a pair, 4D tech is now much more available to the masses via models such as the AlphaEdge 4D and a more lifestyle biased application in the ZX 4000 4D. Though it comes at a high price tag.

The shoe however, does come with a swathe of premium materials. The upper is comprised of primeknit, nubuck, and suede, complemented with the Aero Green 4D midsole and finished off with a rubber outsole, but at a wallet crunching price of RM 1800, the retail price even beats out certain resellers in terms of pricing.

Still, if you’re feeling the need, the shoe is now purchasable on Adidas.com.

AYU by Tarik Debuts Their First Womenswear Collection At KLFW

After a preview at last year’s KLFW 2018, Ayu by Tarik has finally had a chance to fully develop its line and has presented its first full womenswear collection for KLFW 2019 that combines the main line’s penchant for music, visuals and rugged lifestyle that’s uniquely Tarik.

Mimi Lee, the Head of Womenswear at Tarik had this to say, “Ayu by Tarik is a love letter to all the ladies out there who’ve always been a fan of Tarik Jeans. As a solo debut, this collection is filled with all kinds of emotion. It’s romantic, melancholy, agressive with the inevitable nosebleed of rock n roll. ‘SALVAGED’ is chosen as the name of this collection to signify ‘preservation’. If you look it up, the word ultimately means ‘to save goods from damage or destruction’ which is what we are doing here with sustainability being the big idea. This is responsible fashion at its best and Ayu by Tarik is honoured to be selected by KLFW and the United Nations Technology Innovation Lab (UNTIL) to headline this segment.”

The collection also included several helping hands from other artists and designers such as Suri Lifestyle, Secret Art Touch, Weng Rajaie, Nessy, Yati of Society Vamp, and Gula Gula Handmade.

Comprising of 20 looks, some of it was derived from Tarik’s ASAS and Selaseh capsule, and also included three new T-shirt designs in collaboration with Malaysian supermodel, Tinie.

While there have been no announcements made on the collection’s release date, have a look at what went down on the runway.

Converse And NEIGHBORHOOD Throw Back To Their First Collab In This Next One

A streetwear giant and a perennial basketball brand team up once again for a collaboration that harkens back to their first drop together.

Two models are chosen for this collab, with the Jack Purcell being the highlight model this time round. For this collection, Takizawa, the founder of NEIGHBORHOOD has added his signature style to the model, resulting in a more aggressive looking silhouette that befits the NEIGHBORHOOD aesthetic very well. NBHDCNSJP adorns the midsole, while a white line outlines the top of the midsole. Kanji text “teiko,” or “resistance” is embroidered on the heel of the shoe while the upper is built from suede, finishing it off with extra details to differentiate it from the others.

The Chuck 70 though, gets a midfoot strap to enhance lockdown. The canvas also gets upgraded with leather linings, and ‘motorcycle’ appears underneath the Chuck Taylor badge that fits right at home in streetwear or on a bike.

The capsule also comes with co-branded t-shirts and hoodie that feature the NEIGHBORHOOD pentagram juxtaposed with Converse Rubber Shoe Company. Co-branding makes itself visible at the bottom of the graphic.

The Converse X NEIGHBORHOOD pack will launch on the 24th of August at Converse Mid-Valley, KLCC, Crossover Sunway, Online, and the Flagship store at Lazada with prices ranging from RM 199.90 to RM 509.90
