Converse Goes Green With The Converse Renew Initiative

About time manufacturers are taking considerations of the environmental damage and carbon footprint, and after Adidas’s big efforts, comes Converse’s new initiative, dubbed the Converse Renew.

Usually, the process doesn’t defer much from most recycled products – in this case, used plastic bottles are reused to make rPET yarn and weaved to replace the canvas on its upper, but where it gets interesting is that Converse has somehow mimicked the 100% recycled polyester to look and feel the same way as the cotton canvas, effectively delivering the same look and feel, without the environmental guilt of harming the planet.

In line with this initiative are the first batch of colours, which reflect the tones of the Earth. A minimalistic All-Star patch adorns the medial portion while the outsole is lightly speckled.

The All-Stars get an extra bit of detailing too – “Life’s Too Short To Waste” replaces the All-Star logo while both the All-Star and Chuck 70s get the phrase embroidered on the tongue.

Selections are wide too. From a choice of 6 colours, 2 types of midoles, and 2 cuts, you’ll be hard pressed not to find one that’ll suit you.

The Converse Renew Collection goes on sale on the 18th of July with prices ranging from RM 269.90 – RM 359.90, and is available at KLCC, Mid-Valley, Sunway Pyramid, and Pavilion Mall Converse stores.

Nike Updates The Zoom Fly With React Foam

It’s about time the Nike Zoom Fly received a much needed update. After the normal and SP versions which introduced the high energy returns on propulsion, the Swoosh has taken steps to refine the silhouette even further to get the best out of the most accessible high tier running shoe Nike’s ever made.

Following the introduction of a transparent upper seen on the SP version, the Zoom Fly 3 features a reworked version of the stuff called the Vaporweave that reduces moisture absorption to remain dry and airy with a new arch-band lacing system that offers a more customizable fit. However, the biggest change isn’t the upper, but rather, the midsole, and the implementation of the React foam on it.

Changing to the React foam promises more responsive cushioning that’s married to a full-length carbon fibre plate that gives a sensation of propulsion as you push your way forward. The offset too is designed to reduce Achilles strain and the tall midsole provides impact cushioning as you pound the miles on end. Not forgetting too the outsole, which has been redesigned to suit the foot better and provide better traction during wet runs. Quality considerations for anyone who wants to start running.

The Nike Zoom Fly 3 releases tomorrow on Nike.com for a price of around RM 661.

We Review A Pair Of Rare ANTAs! I WDHANFTSY

We’ve got a special pair on our hands for this one. ANTA gracefully sent us a collab pair that cannot be found anywhere else in the world, apart from the USA and China, namely the East Bay Times X ANTA Klay Thompson 4s. Born from Klay Thompson’s habit of reading this newspaper every morning before he goes about his day, the shoe also features a very unique mechanic, whereby you have to subscribe to a year’s worth of East Bay Times newspaper to stand a chance to win the shoe.

Watch the video as Bryan ‘Botak’ Chin and Julian ‘The Bean’ Leong break down the model piece by piece. Would you cop this if you could?

The “Stranger Things OG Pack” Tailwind 79′ Is The Cleanest Version Of The Silhouette Yet

No matter how you look at it, this iteration of the Tailwind 79′ is the cleanest looking yet.

Part of the “Strangers Things” collaboration, the 2nd half of the capsule called the “OG Pack” places its focus on an All-American approach, most notably with the year 1985 stamped on the heel. Other details include co-branding on the tongue and insole, as well as including a few badges into the mix, much like the “Hawkins High Pack,”

Apart from the extras and details on the shoe, we have to talk about the colours. I mean just look at it. I don’t think I have to say anything much to add to this, or justify just how well it fits in the era while also celebrating the American National Day. It’s probably the most era specific throwback you can find on the market today.

We don’t know whether the rest of the pack will release alongside the Tailwind 79′, but we’ll update this article as it goes along.

The Nike Tailwind 79′ “OG Pack” releases on the 6th of July on Nike.com for a retail price of RM 495.

Yuna Brings Forth Girl Power In Her New Song, “Pink Youth”

Bangers After Bangers

The hype train ain’t stopping anytime soon, and Yuna’s at the front carriage riding it all the way with the release of “Pink Youth” in collaboration with Little Simz. The scene drops you in a cyberpunk-esque world, with a an animated Yuna and Little Simz working together to restore colour to a drab black and white world from powers-at-be adamant to retain a monotonous status quo.

In another sense, one could also translate this to a restoration of hope, from a hopeless outlook, as put together by Yuna. “When I was writing ‘Pink Youth’, I wanted to celebrate being a girl,” she explains, “When I was younger, I remember a lot of people didn’t believe in me just because I was girl trying to do something amazing… this song is for all the girls out there, who never got the encouragement & support they deserve.”

Smooth R&B still takes focus as Yuna delivers sultry vocals, coupled with hard hitting bars from Little Simz, empowering women everywhere to keep fighting for their hopes and dreams.

Sayla Reminds The Public Of The Indian Contribution Towards The Malaysian Society In His Song “Keling In Em.”

Let’s face it. As much as we turn a blind eye or become so extremely oblivious to it, the Indian society still gets a lot of flak for stereotypes that puts the race under a negative spotlight that blends into hate and racism for the Indian community.

“India kaki botol, India suka pukul orang, India semua ganas.” These are just some of the negative perceptions placed and spread around the rest of the community, not to mention the extensive use of a derogatory term to further add spite into their insults, “keling.” That couldn’t be further from the truth, and a sentiment that is faced by Indians daily when in reality, it’s only 1 apple out of a 1000.

Which is a premise that Sayla is against, and is strongly worded in his new song, “Keling In Em.” A stern reminder, that Indians had as much contribution in all facets of society, some more so than the others, especially in the literal building of our country.

“The Dr. M has some keling in em…….”Now Everyone Can Fly,” there’s a keling in em,” the song is a reminder to the racists out there Indians are very much part of the societal fabric, and we would not be Malaysia without the contributions of the Indian society.

Nike Updates The Pegasus Turbo With A New Upper

It’s hard to believe that the Nike Pegasus Turbo has gone through its product life that quick, having had its upper updated with lighter materials and a more simplistic design.

Chiefly of which is that the ‘racing stripe’ has now gone in favour of a cleaner looking outlook that’s more understated in its form as a running shoe. A combination of a translucent material and lofted mesh is used to make the upper, while a midfoot band helps keep the foot in place during runs.

And that’s about it. Not much has changed on the midsole portion, except now the outsole comes in gum. Zoom X is still used as the cushioning of choice, while a neon green colourway wraps up the silhouette, making for a highly visible trainer.

Shame that the stripe is no longer, because it does set the Turbo apart from the normal Pegasus, but unless you look at it with a microscope, the differences are tiny. Still, for the fans of subtlety, this may be the training upgrade for you.

The Nike Pegasus Turbo 2 releases on the 4th of July for a price of RM 735 on Nike.com.

Super Fly: The Nike ZoomX Vaporfly Next% Drops Tomorrow

UPDATE: The shoe has been rescheduled for release on the 4th of July, with all the other shoes in the ZoomX pack.

The next iteration of the supposedly fastest running shoe Nike has ever made is gracing us commoners. Welcome everyone, to the ZoomX Vaporfly Next%.

Of course, you may think that Nike’s claims that this is literally the fastest running shoe in the world can be swatted aside and say that it isn’t substantiated and it’s all marketing jargon, but the science behind it proves otherwise. Since the Breaking2 Project happened, Nike’s been working in close proximity with its athletes in order to make them perform better, and at an unprecedented level. 4% efficiency in running economy proved to be a a massive gain in the playing field, dominating marathon everywhere for the past 2 years, and now, Nike is closing in even further in its pursuit to create the best running shoe ever.

Which has resulted in this. Quite literally the pinnacle of Nike’s existing technology catalog, with nothing else expended.

Recall back then that athletes complained that the Flyknit absorbed sweat, and in that instance, made the running shoe heavier. Hence, the new model includes improved sweat wicking capabilities through a lighter fabric, even lighter than Flyknit that doesn’t absorb as much water. The overall shape of the midsole is also modified to increase stability even in dry and wet conditions, as well as pumping in more ZoomX into the midsole.

Despite these additions though, the shoe weighs exactly the same as its predecessor.

Of course, this is for the serious runner, but it also makes for one seriously comfortable everyday shoe, should you choose to do so.

All this tech too doesn’t come at a cheap price. The Zoomx Vaporfly Next% retails at approximately RM 1140, and releases on the 29th of June at Nike.com.
