Boiler Room Makes Its Malaysian Debut At Good Vibes Festival

Anyone who’s been to a club or is an avid lover of electronic music will probably have heard of Boiler Room, a session whreby DJs come and perform their sets to a livestream audience who can jam to the same beats in real time. Now, the travelling circus lands in Malaysia for the first time, bringing the energy and music that we’ve all only wished to be present at during their livestreams.

A slew of local artists are on the joint to keep the rhythm going all night, from the likes of OG DJ-ing duo Lapsap, front runner of the Chinese rap scene Dato’ Maw, local trap artist Orang Malaya, Irish Filipino singer Jess Connelly, and electronic producer Baynk to round up the whole set. Expect an eclectic range of genres, a lot of hype, and great music all night long.

The Jordan 11 Space Jam Returns…..Sort Of

The IE Version Swaps The Patent Leather For Mesh

I don’t know how you would consider this, whether it can be considered as a “Space Jam” model, or just a mere variation of the Jordan 11 that borrows the same colour blocking as the original. We’ll leave that up to your discretion.

What is important however, is the change in materials. Of course, the standard Jordan 11 silhouette has nothing new done to it, except that the patent leather portions are now replaced with breathable mesh instead. “I felt like [patent leather] was contrary to the summer feel,” Hatfield explained. “The shoe didn’t need to feel so stiff and heavy. For the summer, I wanted something that was lighter and easier to wear.” This current iteration however, mixes a little bit of patent leather with mesh for a best of both worlds kind of vibe.

The Jordan 11 Low IE will release on the 13th of July on Nike.com for a price of RM 735. Sacrilegious, or an acceptable change?

adidas Welcomes Arsenal With A New Kit For The 19/20 Premier League Season

It is customary as always for a club to unveil their new jersey right before the start of the league, and it seems to be a big shift this time round for North London club Arsenal, whom have just signed on with adidas to become their new kit providers for the start of the 19/20 season, and it’s chockful of retro throwbacks that have been modernised, as per Adidas usual design ethos.

For starters, the most prominent addition is the the three stripes on the shoulder. Apart from that, the jersey retains the classic all-over red body, accented by white sleeves and collar. Speaking of the collar, it represents a throwback design from the era of the 80s, emblazoned with a central red stripe and black trim.

The home kit is now available at all Adidas stores nationwide for a price of RM 300.

Timex Reissues Its Vintage Diving Inspired Q Timex

1979 was a hallmark year for Timex. The brand had just released the Q Timex which featured Quartz technology, providing the blueprint for every other Timex out there. Now though, the brand is bringing it back in full retroed force for those who’ve missed the look.

Named the 1979 Q Timex, the reissued model follows the exact original design to the tee, recreating the details of the 38mm timepiece as it was produced in the late 70s, from the luminescent paint on the dial, the iconic rotating bezel that’s been given a dual-toned Pepsi colourway, woven together with a stainless steel bracelet and the implementation of the all important Quartz tech.

The watch also features a Seiko Caliber PC33 movement, which includes a display of time, date, day or week. The blue dial is marked with a Q and Timex for an added finishing touch.

The Q Timex Reissue will be launching exclusively at Sole What Mid Valley via a raffle on the 9th of July, priced at RM 999 for a piece. Winners will be announced at 3PM on the 12th of July, and be able to come and collect to make their purchase on Saturday, 13th of July. You copping?

A Discussion On Global Streetwear Trends I From The Thread Episode 13

We’re a primarily streetwear based company, so it would be amiss to not talk about the global fashion scene, its clash with the high fashion world, and the subsequently growing bubble of hype that surrounds us all.

Listen to the podcast to hear about Ben and Isaac’s thoughts on Virgil’s ticking clock at Louis Vuitton, how high fashion has amalgamated with streetwear, and why it’s important that brands choose their collabs carefully.

GET MUNNI – An Anthem On Hustling Courtesy Of Lil Asian Thiccie And Zamaera

Attitude. Lots of it is required for you to fully flaunt your chops and both Lil Asian Thiccie and Zamaera show no shortage of the damn thing in their new song, Get Munni.

Malaysia’s newest summer jam details the story of the grind, the chase, the hustle to earn the dollar bills satirically, using RM1s instead of the usual 100s or 50s. The MV then details their journey following ventures from selling school knick knacks, buying things at the kedai runcit, and ending with being employed at a hair salon. All of which makes for a very humourous video watching the antics of both Lil Asian Thiccie and Zamaera with Producer SonaOne making a cameo towards the end.

Couple that with a hard hitting long decay bassline ala West Coast met with unfounded levels of chemistry between the two, makes for a bar spitting fest that complements, rather than steals the spotlight in between the two rappers.

Of course, money is the central topic here, but it rap songs have always been about flaunting the money, rather than talking about the grind for it. “So commonly in hip hop, money has always been an over-exaggerated topic. Many rappers in Malaysia talk about how much bread they got, six figures or some bull***t like that but they still be livin’ in their momma’s house and driving a raggedy ass whip like boy who you lyin too. We wanted the song to be about makin money, you know, the chase for the success”, Zamaera explains.

GET MUNNI is available on all streaming platforms, and Youtube now with lyrics up on Genius.com.

Take A Look At The Official Teaser For The Mulan Live Action Remake

After a year of teasing, controversy, questionable casting choices, the live action remake of the famed Disney movie, Mulan makes a triumphant return to the big screens.

Much like the original, the story follows along the tale of Hua Mulan, whom drafts herself into the mens only Imperial Army in place of her ailing father when the Emperor of China issues an order that one man per family must serve to protect China from the Northern Invaders. Disguised as a man named Hua Jun, she is put to the test as she goes through the trials and tribulations of her epic journey to become a true warrior and earn the respect of her nation. Thankfully, the movie hasn’t been whitewashed, featuring an international cast from the likes of Liu Yifei as Mulan, Donnie Yen as Commander Tung, Jason Scott as Böri Khan Yoson An as Cheng Honghui, and Gong Li as Xianniang and Jet Li as the Emperor.

Niki Caro takes on the directing helm, following a storyline that roughly mirrors the original sans a few details. For instance, the remake follows more closely to the its source, ‘Ballad of Mulan’ rather than the adapted animated version which omits Mushu and Cri-kee, Mulan’s companions as she follows along her journey.

The movie is slated to release next year during Spring. Are you excited?

Get Up To Date With The Bauhaus Inspired Nike Air Max 270 React

Nike has a knack for rummaging through its parts bin and come up with new shoes and designs after a Frankenstein-esque resurrection featuring various parts together. Remember the time when Nike used to put the Vapormax sole on literally anything they could get their hands on in the catalogue? Thank your lucky stars the Nike Air Max 270 React isn’t like that.

In fact, what it is though, is a more tasteful rendition of a hybrid sneaker that features two of Nike’s more refined technology spread, the React foam and one of Nike’s tallest Air unit to date. Let’s talk about the midsole first.

The cushioning stays true to its React and Air Max names, combining both for a more responsive and bouncier cushioning for increased comfort while the upper borrows heavily from the Element 87, featuring bar tach construction technique as overlaid panels seem like they float due to the removal of typical no-sew and stitched on methods.

The colour blocking too, takes inspiration from Bauhaus art, with bright pastels and rich tones contrast each other for a very eye-catching daily model.

The Nike Air Max 270 React is available for purchase on the 12th of July at Nike.com for a price of RM 609.
