Graph Studios Highlights Society’s Babis In New Chinese New Year Video

Luck, good fortune, wealth, honesty, prosperity, hard work, peace-loving, generous, indulgent, patient, reliable, sincere, with a good sense of humour and understanding. All positive, wholesome adjectives to describe someone who was born in the Year Of The Pig. According to the general masses that is.

Interpretations can land in many different directions, and in the case of Graph Studios, decided to highlight the bad habits of Malaysian’s under the guise of babi. Of course, babi is as synonymous a swear word as sh*t, and f*ck, and in a purely satirical effort, showcases our people’s most ‘babi’ behaviour, with major culprits including double parking, fong fei kei (last minute pull out from plans), taking up priority seats in public transportation, not giving signals on the road, and many more. We really have to fix ourselves as a nation.

In the meantime, enjoy the marvelous effort put together by the studio in ‘The Year Of You.’

Polo Equips Its Polo 11 Jacket With An Adjustable Thermostat

Ralph Lauren Are Seriously Bringing The Heat With Applied Innovation

Polo Ralph Lauren just released their limited-edition Polo 11 astronaut jacket, and it’s a hit one. A ‘90s reissue of a coveted Polo outerwear piece, this jacket has become a cultural icon.

Bringing a more technologically advanced way to the extreme climates of the world than the traditional outerwear, the brand has revamped the iconic Polo 11 Jacket. Featuring a Bluetooth-controlled heating component built-in into it’s lining of the jacket, a rechargeable Mophie battery pack will be attached and placed in the jacket’s inside pocket that can keep the wearer warm for up to eleven hours when fully charged, with the specific temperature being controlled by the RL Heat App, which offers weather reports as well.

Pairing this insanely advance tech with the addition of water-resistant ripstop construction, 750 fill power down insulation and a heat distribution lining, Polo’s intention to keep wearers warm no matter the condition is up in spades.

Put the crazy advance tech aside, and just admire the NASA inspired design, mimicking space suits and the bright white finish is absolutely clean! It’s a holy grail vintage pair from the 90’s, and one that’s been innovated for the future. Although this jacket is impossible to rock in our Malaysia’s climate, it is definitely a forced to be reckoned with.

Why Are Jordan 1 Mids Not Popular?

The Air Jordan 1 Mid has been around in existence for the longest time. Representing the middle ground between the Hi and Low cut models, the Jordan 1 Mid has carved itself an interesting niche, making itself known for people who want the heel collar without the height of the original cuts. Only, its presence wasn’t really announced as the model is often overshadowed by the Hi’s in almost all cases, even though the Air Jordan 1 Mid gets a myriad of updated tech, newer materials, and ultimately, more comfort.

Despite all the niceties, it has always been living under the shadow of its taller brother, and Jordan sees the problem. Hence why its putting up a massive push to place the mids forward and into the limelight. Hell, it even got the ‘Equality’ treatment in Nike’s selection of Black History Month shoes, and even then, especially in the scene, it’s not really celebrated.

The problem is simple, and it boils down to the purists of the Air Jordan legacy. Looking back at all the milestones in Jordan’s time as a professional basketball player, the games where he had the most impact was all in the Air Jordan 1 Hi, with a very specific colourway attached to it. In essence, the historical context is emphasized massively on the highs, and for someone who collects Air Jordan 1s, anything less than Hi is sacrilegious.

We then arrive to the price point. The standard Air Jordan 1 Hi price would retail at about RM 600 and above whereas the Mid takes that down a notch to RM 455, and for some, that is a major difference. Some argue too, that the colours seem like an afterthought or leftovers after the good blockings were used on the Hi, leaving the mid with uninspired, sometimes lazy looking designs.

But then again, this is from the perspective of the niche consumer who’s in the know of the full-depth and history behind the shoe. To the person who likes the Air Jordan 1 because of Michael Jordan or just because it looks cool, the mid is no more different than the high, and that’s completely okay. To the hustlers that want to get the highs, but somewhat are not able to afford it, the mids are there to fill that gap, and that’s okay. The shoe serves as an entry point to the ones who want to get into the Jordan culture, or simply just want to be different. And that’s okay.

In the end, it boils down to your preference. Some people just like it, some people don’t and that’s fine. Differing opinions are what makes the scene more exciting, more varied, and as long as we continue this route, we’ll have more and more nice shoes to wear, and that’s always a plus on my book.

6 Affordable Casio Watches That You Need To Add To Your Collection

Written by Sean Ho

For people of a certain age, digital Casio watches were the first piece of tech they got excited about. It was something intriguing about a little rectangular case telling you the time. It had a light! An alarm! And it is impossible to break! But best of all, it had a stopwatch. Were you even a child if you didn’t double tap the stop-start button as quickly as possible? But above all that, when it comes to men’s affordable watches of value, we can’t miss products from Casio. Here are the top best and most affordable watches you need to add to your collection!

Casio MTP-1095Q-7B

Price: RM148

A classic entry to the series, the MTP variant sports a more timeless silhouette with a gold coloured dial, actual leather straps, and a stainless steel case. A 3-hand Quartz movement completes the model with fair legibility thanks to its white-faced dial and big numbers.

Casio G-Shock DW-5600E-1VDF

Price: RM480

The G-Shock was the substance of dreams when we were a kid. It’s oversized bezel and rugged exterior functions as well as it looks too. You can tank the watch through several hard hits and it’ll still work fine. Apart from the practicalities of everyday life, including timer, stopwatch, and alarm functions, the watch is also water resistant, shock proof, and is a worthy collection for an everyday beater.

Casio Watch DBC-32-1ADF

Price: RM145

Much like the G-Shock, this one appealed to the kid in you. You were never going to actually use the calculator, it just looked so gobsmackingly good on your wrist, and after watching one too many sci-fi movies, you start to imagine that the calculator watch on your wrist is a multipurpose communication device, especially with the abundance of buttons to touch on the watch surface. You needn’t let that dream go. Chase it, grab a hold of it, and live it to the fullest.

Casio Leather Strap Date

Price: RM129

A slightly more modern take of the MTP series, the Leather Strap Date features much of the same as the aforementioned MTP, but features a date window as well. Numerals aren’t present, instead replaced with notch indices instead that add to a more classy feel.

Casio MW-240-7BVDF

Price: RM96

No frills, function over form timepiece. Resin strap for durability, large numerals and white dial for maximum legibility, and thin frame for lightness. So light in fact, that it’ll feel as though it’s not even on your wrist.

Casio F-91WM-7AEF

Price: RM118

Same concept as the previous one, only with the added functions of a digital watch. This includes a stopwatch, alarm, timer, as well as a LED light with a metal case and resin strap to boot. It doesn’t get any simpler than this.

Photographer Channels Deforestation Symbolically Through Joe Chia Pieces In New Editorial

We aren’t exactly made aware of the rate of the progress of civilization. The once lush green parks that you see on your regular trip gets fenced off and wrought of colour, transformed into another monolith that pierces the sky amongst other skyscrapers in its vicinity. With the increasing rate of advancement though, we’re foregoing certain necessities that may seem inconspicuous until we actually need it, and Johnson Ng highlights this in his new awareness editorial.

Detailing brutalist architecture in search of plants, armed with pieces from Joe Chia’s archives, a trio of models are draped in dark, monotone colours with their faces covered with black cloth to symbolize the declining oxygen quality caused by deforestation.

The whole project aims to shape & educate audience regarding global warming issue. The impact of this project is the ability to see positive movement from the audience, as the whole project ends with 3 model removing the black cloth when they get in contact with green plants symbolising the diminishing source of clean, and fresh oxygen as the progress of the world overtakes everything in sight.

The choice to use Joe Chia’s ready to wear only adds another layer of detail to the series. Johnson explains, “While I don’t exactly remember which collection this is from, I remember choosing this as they symbolise something contemporary, bold, and strong which fits the concept I was going for.”

To see more of Johnson’s work, head on to his VSCO profile.
