First Look at: AfterShokz Trekz Titanium Headphone

We have seen volunteers yelling instructions as runners cross the line, and many of them with earbuds just keep going, not hearing a word. It may not appear as a big deal in such circumstances, but somehow running/cycling with earphone is like using mobile phone while driving. Moreover, we have definitely seen cases of runners/cyclists who had accidents while running with headphones.

Really, the advise of “Make sure you can still listen outside noises” isn’t working at all.

So there is a reason behind the rise of bone-conducting headphones like AfterShokz Trekz Titanium Wireless headphone. We need our jam to push our limit and break our own best yet without losing the privilege of communicating with the environment. As it name implies, the Titanium frame helps to keep it lightweight, durable and flexible. As they don’t go in your ears, but rather sit on your cheek bone and provide a premium music quality with comfortable experience. We can’t stress it anymore else.

For the most of headphone user, we all do face this issue – “tangled wire”. This wireless headphone definitely saves us from the annoying tangled wire. Other than simply being a headphone, this Trekz Titanium also works as hands free to allow you make and receive call.

In the dating sphere, balding heads are a no-no

Almost anyone that has ever had any success at the dating game would likely preach the overused maxim of “first impressions are everything”. Manoeuvring across the minefield that is dating isn’t an easy task, even if you do have bankable qualities such as your razor sharp wit and dazzling charm. Turns out, as a recent survey by online dating app Paktor will attest, that hair recession is a major turn off for many ladies out there.

The survey, which polled 1,264 of Paktor’s users across the region, reveals that 3 out of 5 women consider thinning hair in men a significant negative quality in the dating sphere. This “no-no” is only topped by bad breath and body odour, showing how much importance women generally place on the state of a man’s hair.

Many might cringe at the fact that this negativity is visually-driven, though is understandable considering that historically a full head of hair symbolised virility and youth.

“In the sphere of online dating, when first impressions truly matter, people inevitably make judgements based on the initial visual impression,” notes Joseph Phua, CEO and Co-founder of Paktor.

Managing Partner and CEO of Alpecin, Eduard R. Doerrenberg, naturally shares the same sentiments considering Alpecin primarily sells cosmeceutical hair and scalp tonics.

“Typically there tends to be a negative connotation attached to balding. This can be further exacerbated when it comes to the dating world where first impressions count. Dating in itself can be stressful and the state of ones “mane” or the lack of it, should not serve as an added stress. The trick is to always address the problem at an early stage,” he says.

The psychological effects of hair loss are far from superficial, as a survey conducted by Nielsen on behalf of Alpecin shows that over 81% of Malaysian male participants noted having greater confidence from having a full head of hair. Further, 39% of the men polled confirmed that hair loss has an extremely negative impact with regards to being popular amongst women.

The survey further reveals that 47% of the men polled agreed that thinning hair made them less desirable and 57% admitting that they are envious of their fuller-haired peers. On top of that, the Paktor survey also revealed that 61.7% of men spend up to 45 minutes to get ready for their first date.

Moral of the story? Either embrace baldness (as opposed to balding) or grab yourself a hair and scalp shampoo to improve your chances of scoring at the dating game. Alpecin would love you more if you subscribe to the latter option and buy their products at any Guardian store nationwide, though.

Nike Air Presto Ultra Flyknit

Originally released in 2000, the Nike Air Presto became famous for its irreverent advertising, alpha sizing, ultimate comfort and ahead-of-its-time sock-like construction. In the decade and a half since, the shoe has transcended performance running to become a sport-style fixture. Now, 16 years after its introduction, Nike is updating the icon fusing with new materials and technology to create the “Nike Air Presto Ultra Flyknit“.

The shoe’s signature adaptable upper becomes even more pronounced through the use of Flyknit, which delivers stretch in the collar, ventilation in the toe and tongue, and support in the heel and underneath the toecap. In another first for the Presto franchise, the Nike Air Presto Ultra Flyknit features a mid-cut collar, which lends a modern aesthetic. The TPU cage is re-engineered to fit the Flyknit upper, while the ultra tooling with rubber in high-contact wear areas improves it comfort and durability.

The Nike Air Presto Ultra Flyknit is available at all Sole What outlets in Mid Valley, The Gardens and Sunway Pyramid as well as it’s online store (www.solewhat.com) for RM649, inclusive of GST. Available in men’s and women’s sizes.

And Now We’ve a Song About Vape Juice

It’s not entirely unusual any more to catch an aroma of cotton candy clinging to the air when walking down a random street or having a midnight snack at the mamak, thanks to a now enduring trend that’s taken the Malaysian youth by storm. The vaping culture has been around for a while now, while businesses that have capitalised on this culture can attest that the popularity of “blowing clouds” have exploded since the vape was first introduced locally.

The strength behind the current vape industry climate can be best described by the snow ball theory. Initially vaping was simply a means for most to find seemingly healthier alternatives to smoking. Eventually, as more people began to consider vaping as something relatively harmless and cool, a vape kit became a must have item among many, regardless of gender.

Thanks to the influence of social media, we’ve seen plenty of non-smokers pick up vaping as a hobby. Given that even the Oxford dictionary has noted in 2014 that the word of the year was “vape”, you know that the industry has crept well into mainstream culture.

This has led to a tremendous increase in the number of vape shops in Malaysia, to the point where you could sometimes spot up to 4 or 5 of these outlets within a stone’s throw distance of each other. In such a competitive environment it can be difficult to stand out over the crowd, though Nasty Juice attempts this by collaborating with Singaporean rapper Akeem Jahat to produce a rap song as a form of brand promotion.

Give it a listen and tell us what you think!

Midnight Sun by Devise

DEVISE-MIDNIGHTSUN

BMX lifestyle and streetwear fashion label Devise have unleashed their latest spring/summer collection called the “Midnight Sun”. Continuing their philosophy of adapting what is felt and perceived then incorporating that into wearable artworks, the brand’s latest offering presents designs themed around the full moon, hence the name.

The collection consists of an assortment of three black t-shirts and a single pocket tee. Besides a single tee bearing a detailed monochromatic full moon for an added visual pop, the rest of the designs are relatively simple with typographic elements used sparingly.

If you’re interested in getting yourself a tee from their latest collection, do drop by their physical store at Depot, Taman Tun Dr Ismail. If you’re not a fan of brick & mortar outlets, feel free to browse their wares on their official website.
