adidas Releases A Special Edition Nemeziz 19.1 To Celebrate Messi’s Professional Debut 15 Years Ago

When Lionel Andrés Messi Cuccittini graced the Camp Nou pitch 15 years ago, football was changed forever, and to celebrate Messi in the footballing world, adidas have gifted him and us with the Nemeziz 19.1 ‘Messi 15 Years,’ a nod to his first debut before changing the what was possible when it came to football.

This special issue takes cues from many of Messi’s iconic moments in the game, starting off with a colourway that reflects his home country, Argentina, shod with golden outsole plates and details to remember his many achievements and trophies over the course of his illustrious career.

Smaller details include a 5-pointed crown graphic on the left foot, representing the 5 Ballon d’Ors that he has won, while his trademark ‘M’ logo graces the right. ’15 AÑOS’ is also printed next to the embedded torsion beam to highlight his 15 years as a professional player.

The mythical number 10 is emblazoned on the boot’s left sockliner, while a timestamp, ’82nd min – 16 -10 – 2004′ marks the date and time that Messi stepped on Camp Nou for the first time.

No technical changes have been made to the boot, but as an extension of Messi’s own self, why would there be a need to change anything?

The adidas NEMEZIZ 19.1 is available to purchase now at Football Republic and adidas.com.my for a price of RM 1100.

The Air Jordan 1 ‘Shattered Backboard 3.0’ Is Dropping This Saturday

The ‘Shattered Backboard’ has been a bit of a mythical colourway for the Air Jordan 1. Not on the roster of original colourways, the Shattered Backboard instead takes inspiration from Michael Jordan’s uniform when he shattered the backboard during an exhibition game in Italy, transplanting a mix of orange and black onto the shoe.

The first iteration mirrored the more familiar ‘Bred Toe’ blocking, followed by the ‘Reverse Shattered Backboard’ that follows the original ‘Chicago’ colour blocking. Apart from that, there’s also a satin version, which replaces the leather with said fabric, and now, there’s this.

Welcome then, to the ‘Shattered Backboard 3.0,’ a silhouette that throws away everything, instead replacing it with patent leather. The orange colours are now blocked to follow the ‘Bred’ colour blocking, completing a silhouette that’s a homage to the original, while retaining its storied past.

The Air Jordan 1 ‘Shattered Backboard 3.0’ is available on the 26th of October on Nike.com for a price of RM 649.

Viu Is Rebooting Legendary Malaysian Sitcom ‘Kopitiam’

Dubbed ‘Kopitiam: Double Shot’

Kopitiam was a legendary sitcom series that ran before the turn of the millennium and into the early 2000s. More than that however, it painted a familiar scene, a short escape into a world that transcends racial politics, and anything else that’s bad about Malaysian reality, in order to provide feel good entertainment on NTV7.

Now though, Viu has decided to reboot the series, not exactly continuing where it left off, but a bit further down the timeline. Titled ‘Kopitiam: Double Shot,’ the series brings the audience back to the familiar kopitiam, once owned by Marie (played by Joanna Bessey) is now in the hands of a prematurely jaded Steven (Douglas Lim).

Just as he plans to let go of the unloved business, the kopitiam is saved by a couple of regulars, a retrenched dreamer named Alia (Sharifah Amani), and her spacey but well-intentioned bestie, Seleb (Melissa Campbell). Together with the cute but awkward chef (Harvinth Skin), a know-it-all helper who just doesn’t want to be fired (Charles Roberts), and the world’s most improbable Hollywood star (Joe as reprised by Rashid Salleh), the team embark on an adventure to bring the long forgotten Kopitiam to the 21st century.

Kingsley Warner, General Manager of Vuclip Malaysia had this to say, “We are extremely pleased and humbled to see our Malaysian audiences enthusiasm and adoption of our Viu Originals aired thus far. This inspires us in our journey to continue to strive harder and harder to bring exciting local stories that our audience can relate to and enjoy. Kopitiam was loved by many Malaysians and we realized the opportunity to present it to the newer generation who were not as aware of the iconic series. In a digitally native format and situations that resonate with them, we have decided to continue the show’s legacy!”

Original cast members Lina Teoh, Joanna Bessey, Mano Maniam, and Tan Jin Chor will also make cameo appearances in the upcoming reboot, sure to tug at the strings of nostalgia for the ones who watched the original series.

The reboot sure has plenty to live up to, but with a few veterans on the show, as well as a bunch of talented newcomers, we’re excited to see what’s brewing behind closed doors. ‘Kopitiam: Double Shot’ premiers exclusively on Viu on the 28th of November, 2019, featuring 2 back-to-back episodes every Thursday on the app.

JEMSON: Najmi Incarnation and Myo Oh Chentaku’s Classic Rock Adventure

Written by J.L

When the hype train that’s been chugging in the States is mostly dominated by hip hop acts, Malaysians celebrate music in every form. From K-Clique’s Beg 2 Back to Sekumpulan Orang Gila’s rockhestra single with Shila Amzah, music fans can’t get enough of new releases and sounds.

So when two of the most prominent figures in the metal and punk scene got together to form an unlikely entity, you know something’s about to ripple in the scene. JEMSON is born when Incarnation closed its final chapter 4 years ago, Najmi (frontman) then started to work on the ‘Jameson Project’, a new creative outlet for him to try out new styles. After experimenting a few sounds, Najmi recorded a single called ‘Rock N’ Roll Sampai Mati’ with Myo, and the song became the theme song to Myo’s travel show, Ride Hensem. The duo’s chemistry was so insane, they decided to form JEMSON, a spin-off of the original project name.

The band came out with a music video for their first ever official single, ‘Sakit Hati’. From the track, we can hear bits and pieces of rock classics from KISS, Van Halen and Poison, mixed with modern pop punk influences (from Myo most probably). The visuals, reminded us of the movie Rock Ooo!

JEMSON recently joined forces with Tala Records Asia to produce cassettes of their EP entitled Balada Cinta Kosmos, which will be available for streaming and headbanging purposes starting this 25th October 2019 in all streaming platforms. Till then, stay tuned as we review the EP.

Zamaera Dispells Her Doubters With A BM Track Titled ‘Jangan Salah Sangka’

Written by Evely Tan

Our local feisty rapper Zamaera puts out her second malay single “Jangan Salah Sangka” produced by Airliftz along with I-Sky behind the sound engineering.

Assumption has always been part of human nature, and in a world dominated by social media, it’s much much faster to assume that someone’s life is going great by watching their actions from afar. Tracking, judging their every move, whilst sitting behind the comfort of your bed has become much much easier.

Which is why Zamaera is dispelling this behaviour in her latest single, mirrored after some of the backlashes that she’s received before this. The talented lyricist also includes a couple of easter eggs into her bars, referencing Fariz Jabba’s ‘Masa’ as well as ‘Sang Saka Biru’ in a cheeky effort to include her labelmates in as well.

The intro starts off in a rather mediocre way. but gradually picks up as the song allows her to delve deeper into her lyrical prowess, as she makes it clearer to whoever is listening to mind your own damn business, or in other words, ‘jangan membawang wei.’

The official lyric video for “Jangan Salah Sangka” is out now and available on all streaming platforms.

Effective from January 2020, Nike CEO Mark Parker is stepping down from his role, instead to become a board member with John Donahoe taking over as the next in line to lead the company.

Parker has worked with Nike for four decades, starting out as a footwear designer for the brand in 1979, and working his way up to become CEO in 2006.

John Donahoe, an ex-eBay CEO is not exactly a stranger to Nike, having already involved with the strategic process and actively engaged with Nike’s senior management team.

Robert Downey Jr. Can Now Talk To Animals In “Dolittle” Following Life After Iron Man

Written by Evely Tan

The upcoming American fantasy comedy film based on the character Doctor Dolittle created by Hugh Lofting stars Robert Downey Jr. in a live action role with a supporting cast that includes big names like Emma Thompson, Rami Malek, John Cena, Tom Holland and Selena Gomez.

The trailer itself does not give away much about the film but it highlights the storyline with former doctor and veterinarian, Dr. John Dolittle of Victorian England discovering the ability of communicating with animals, which leads him to embark on an adventure in search of a cure along with the animals.

Of course, this is no Eddie Murphy Dr. Dolittle, as this heads on a completely different path that smells a lot like the typical Disney big money blockbuster. Heck even the trailer is similar to a number of other movies, but I digress. What we do know, is that Stephen Gaghan’s “Dolittle” alludes more to adventurous and intensity factors, which should open up more avenues to explore the story in an arguably better setting.

“Dolittle” with its Disney vibes will be out in January 17th, 2020.
