Eliud Kipchoge Is The First Man To Run A Marathon In Under 2 Hours

Though It Is An Unofficial Record

The impossible, is now possible. The unachievable, now achieved. The limit, now surpassed. On a cold day in Vienna, the world’s fastest man just ran a marathon, clocking in at 1:59:40 when he crossed the finish line at Prater Park.

However, it won’t be an official one.

You see, for it to qualify as an official time, the course must be ran under open marathon conditions and without the assistance of pacesetters, and while that means this feat is a more symbolic one, it is a major endeavour in every way for a human to complete what was once thought of to be just a dream only a few years back.

Speaking to The New York Times, Kipchoge had this to say,”Berlin was about running a world record,” Kipchoge said this past week. “Vienna is about running and breaking history, like the first man on the moon.”

What followed before that though, was months upon months upon months of rigorous training, dieting, and location preparations, ensuring no possible errors are overlooked, and that the conditions are as perfect as they can be. It was all about balancing factors outside of their control, which then resulted in him becoming the fastest man on the planet. It didn’t matter that this wasn’t official or that it didn’t follow the rules. Everyone knew it would be a symbolic one, a message that we, as a collective species can set out to achieve what we want to achieve, and there is all to it. Nothing more, nothing less.

The Air Jordan 3 “Knicks” Includes Details Relating To MJ’s Famed “Viral Game”

the love for the spotlight has never eluded Michael Jordan, and during the peak of his career, the beam was all the more concentrated on the star player at Madison Square Garden against the New York Knicks.

This particular Air Jordan 3, pays homage to the NY team, with team’s colours accented on the silhouette atop a White Cement base. Extra details are also included, bringing some bitter memories for diehard Knicks fans, in the form of a date that states “4/8/88” in the inner tongue, a nod to the game when MJ upped his adversaries with 40 points whilst fighting a stomach flu.

The Air Jordan 3 “Knicks” will be available on the 15th of October for a price of RM 775 on Nike.com.

7 Best Malaysian Cassette Releases for 2019’s Cassette Store Day

Written by J.L

Ever since Starlord played  ‘Come And Get Your Love’ by Redbone on his walkman, the masses have shown genuine interest in cassettes again. Well, collectors would pelt me with stones if I say that a Disney movie helped bring back the cassettes… but it’s not entirely wrong, isn’t it?

This year’s release was nothing short of star-studded, with legendary bands re-releasing their fan favourites and newer bands plying their trade in the vintage market. So let’s see what’s the best releases for this year’s festivities:

Dog Day Diaries by Hacktick!

To say that pop punk has been revived is a bit farfetched, but Hacktick! played an instrumental role in injecting brand new flavours to the genre, and Dog Day Diaries was the record that catapulted their name to the forefront of the punk scene. The record is probably the freshest collection of pop punk tunes since Bunkface’s Phobia Phoney and it is now available in cassette form.

Positive Jams by Playburst

When Aidil (from Couple) said he was busy in the studio, everyone was sure that he was recording another Couple record (maybe he was doing that too?). But instead, Playburst came out, turning heads and inciting singalongs at gigs. We’ve always known that Aidil is a talented musician, but to produce an emo record, especially after the success of Milo Dinosaur and Social Circuit? Now that’s smart.

Malayneum by Butterfingers

Since Butterfingers will be reuniting for one last time (again), this release is considered timely. Even though most fans would enjoy Transcendence more, especially in conjunction with its 20th anniversary, this record was impactful when it first debuted. Certainly a blast in the past if you’re a fan since 1.2 Milligrams (or even before that).

Teenage Disc Fantastic by Couple

If we can’t get a new Couple album, this cassette re-release would suffice. Let’s admit it, Couple never actually had a bad album, and Teenage Disc Fantastic might just be the second best behind Top of the Pop (Let’s argue at the comment section, I’m ready). Let’s revisit the first time we’ve heard ‘Pergi’ on cassette, shall we?

Spastically by OAG

In a recent interview on Thinker Studio’s Korek Fizikal, Naza, the lead singer of the Times claimed that this record was the one that impressed him to join OAG. Due to that love for it, his label, Sputnik Records decided to re-release this exclusively for Cassette Store Day. First come, first serve they say, because this one will be selling like mad!

The Ballad of Jimi Acid by The Times

The Ballad of Jimi Acid was the final release from The Times before they went on hiatus. Maybe not the most decorated one in their discography, but the record still packs a punch with songs like ‘Spektakular’ and ‘Wanita’. You might just want to grab this one, before The Times drop their rumored next album!

Pop Bilik Tidur by Pastel Lite

After the success of Balada, Pastel Lite wasted no time to produce their latest record, Pop Bilik Tidur. The soft teaser of the album indicated that this one will be more dancey and disco than Balada, which compliments Eff Hakim’s voice really well. We’ve already heard their first single, ‘Hello Sayang’, that also featured Naza, now let’s enjoy the whole album — in casette form!

#FR2 Is Opening A Pop-Up Store In Isetan The Japan Store

Everyone knows of Fucking Rabbits 2, or #FR2. With ubiquitous use of “Smoking Kills” juxtaposed with pictures depicting otherwise, to liberal use of photographs of women, all bordering very thinly on softcore porn. But the cult movement that its founder, Ryo Ishikawa has built over the years has resonated with each one of them, principally with the photography aspect of things, as well as its crude, and loud messages that adorns #FR2’s t-shirts.

And now, the man himself is coming down to the launch of the #FR2 pop-up store right here in Isetan Japan Store Lot 10. Along with that, exclusive merchandise will be sold at the pop-up; namely “Smoking Kills” box logo tees, caps, and an umbrella, all coloured in the palette of Isetan’s paper bags. Ryo will also be in attendance at the pop-up, to do a meet and greet session with eager fans alike.

The pop-up will begin on the 26th of October at Isetan The Japan Store.

We Talked To The Founder Of Hebatoys To Find Out Why He Decided To Immortalise Mahathir In A Figurine

C2V is no ordinary player in the scene. The famed comic artist, otherwise known as Michael Chuah, has built an extensive resume, with Gengkey, an original creation featuring delinquent kids who are often up to no good in their daily lives. Of course, this was then a long time ago, and since then, Michael has delved into other forms of creative work, of which one was to honour our current Prime Minister Tun M, but in toy form.

This then resulted in Hebatoys, a company which allows him to make figurines, and for his latest project, Michael has decided to pay homage to Tun M, in a way that he knows best. We caught up with the famed artist to talk about the project.

So how did this project started out? Was it in response to the political landscape now or because Tun M is such a prominent figure that you just had to feature him?

So the project kickstarted when Tun M actually came back as the 7th Prime Minister, and we thought it is also very rare to see a Prime Minister come back for a second time and he’s also quite old, this year he’s 94. So we wanted to do it right now before any changes.

So what was your aim of this toy? Was it a symbolic movement of some sort or just a tribute?

It’s more like a tribute, because since I was a kid, Tun M’s name has been heard for many years even until right now. Even until he’s retired, we still know that he’s quite influential in the community so that’s why we wanted to pick Tun M as one of our very first project.

So was Tun M your only choice or had you considered any other political figures before deciding on him?

So far, he’s the only choice. I can’t think of other political figures that can compete with him. But the other thing we wanted to do is hopefully in the future we can come up with Tun Siti Hasmah to pair with him because my toy designs usually come in a pair so I wanted to keep this going on if possible.

Will there be any other variations of not just Tun M but maybe other characters in the same action figurine that you have now?

Most probably, it will not be a political character. Maybe we can think of others like P.Ramlee, someone that truly represents a Malaysian icon.

Through the artists’ representation of Tun M, what can you gather when it comes to the Tun’s public image?

I think most of the artist, they don’t really treat it as a Tun M figure. They just treat it as a platform, as a toy or as a canvas. So when they do, they really explore it. It’s not to say that they’re making fun of it but they just wanted to put what they like into the figure. So you’ll see some Tun M figures with monster looks or maybe something totally weird.  But to me, when I pass it to them, I never set the rules for them. I want them to explore it as it is, a canvas. So of course, I did invite some artist and some of them they actually worry about painting over the Tun M figure and some doesn’t like Tun M but I think it’s okay lah. It’s up to the artist also. All I’m providing is a canvas of interpretation and it’s up to the artist to interpret it however he/she sees fit.

…..

3 iterations of the toy are available to purchase, a plain white one for anyone to customise as they see fit, one with Tun M’s iconic grey suit with shoes, and a more humorous green one clad in Bata slippers. All three models including the customised versions are available for sale on Hebatoys’ Instagram, ranging from RM 250 – RM 800.

You Can Now Walk On Holy Water With This Custom MSCHF Nike Air Max 97s

Well, nobody would have ever seen this coming. A conceptual art form as well as taking things a little too literally, Brooklyn creative label MSCHF has recreated the miracle of Jesus walking on water, via a different means of approach.

The Nike Air Max 97 forms the template of this bold concept, with the Air capsules filled with 60ml of literal Holy Water sourced from the River Jordan, theoretically allowing you to walk on water, very much like the Holy Son did in Matthew 14:25. Extra details include red insoles that are scented with Frankenscence as a homage to the Vatican, while a steel crucifix is placed on the shoelaces, while a Matthew 14:25 is inscribed on the toe box.

Initially released on October 8th, the pair has already sold out, even with a retail price of approximately RM 5975, and the only way to obtain it is through Stock X, selling at almost twice that.

Nevertheless, if you dream of emulating Jesus and his achievements, this may just be your ticket in.

The adidas Ultraboost 1.0 Makes A Return In the Online Stores

In Red, Yellow, And OG Black

Talk to any Ultraboost fan, and the vast majority of them would say that the original Ultraboost or 1.0, defined by the Y-knit on the toebox is still the best version of the silhouette up to this day. Thus, in a surprise restock, the Three Stripes have decided to re-release the 1.0 models in 3 different colours, namely the ‘Solar Yellow,’ ‘Solar Red,’ and the must have OG ‘Black’ and ‘Purple.’

To recap, the adidas Ultraboost is a highly developed running shoe with technology borrowed from BASF in the form of Boost cushioning, and is widely popularised with the help of Kanye West when he wore it on stage during his concert, subsequently spawning a series of collaborations that redefined the sneaker world. The only differences that mark the re-releases from the original one is the use of the 4.0 insole, which features a different font depicting the word Boost in a bolder font.

Else, everything about the shoe remains the same, featuring the same cushioning that the world fell in love with when it was released in 2015. The shoe is available to purchase now at a price of RM 850 at adidas.com online.
