The Entire Carhartt X Nike Collection Dropped Secretly Yesterday

From our regular rotations on the Nike site, we knew that the swoosh would be dropping a Carhartt WIP X Nike Vandal High today, but what we didn’t expect was that the entire collection dropped in one fell swoop.

Late last night in the early hours of the morning inside of the Nike Men’s Footwear page revealed all the shoes in its collaborative glory. All 4 models are present and accounted for, the Vandal High, Air Force 1 Low, Air Force 1 Utility Low, and Air Max 95. The Air Max 95 is the highlight of the pack, being one of only two silhouettes to have been clad with tiger camo pattern with orange Air bubble inserts. The Air Force 1 Utility Low also gets donned up in the same pattern and employing ripstop fabric for the upper. An orange swoosh makes itself present on the strap, and Carhartt’s signature D-Ring is attached to the pull tab. The Air Force 1 Low is probably the most understated of the bunch. Ripstop, wool, and corduroy make up the upper with contrasting back panel in a darker shade of brown rounding up the top. A ‘sail’ midsole adds a bit of timelessness to the shoe.

Caps also make an appearance, using the same ripstop material and tiger camo print to make the upper. All in all a very simple, but effective pack.

Sizes are running out quick, but you can still cop most of it online. Prices range from RM 535 to RM 689, so it’s still within affordable budget.

Still salty you can’t get a collab model? The A COLD WALL* X Nike Zoom Vomero +5 is releasing tomorrow.

PUMA Reopens The Archives To Revisit The CELL Endura

As vintage clothing start picking up as a trend, global sports brand PUMA revives a 90’s silhouette from their archive dubbed the CELL Endura “Patent 98”. The revival of the silhouette is to commemorate the silhouette’s 20th anniversary since it was released. First introduced in 1998, the CELL Technology was built and designed using stable-cushioning with blow-molded polyurethane elastomer (TPU) which was configured in a pattern of hexagonal cell.

The CELL Endura returns to redefine street style across broadways and runways with new production techniques, combining the original tooling with revolutionary CELL technology located in the midsole. The CELL Endura  “Patent 98” is upgraded with digital stitching and built with mesh uppers and hints of suede and glossy patent leather. Another detail to highlight for this release is the embroidered OG CELL PUMA branding on the heel.

To further celebrate the silhouette’s 20th anniversary, PUMA will be releasing the CELL Endura for women in a Pale Pink colorway. Similar to the men’s pair, the CELL Endura features digital stitching, breathable mesh upper with suede overlays and PU coated leather to cover the upper.

Get both the CELL Endura “Patent 98” and CELL Endura Women’s at PUMA KLCC and Crossover at RM619 on the 6th of December!

Timberland Remixes The 6-Inch Boot, But Not Really

Recall the boot that carried Timberland to where they are now. In other words, the iconic 6-inch boot. Now there’s another version that’s similar to it. Keyword here, being similar, but is apparently a completely different model. Let’s break it down.

The Radford boot, as it’s known, is packed with Timberland’s latest tech to ensure maximum protection during the winter months, or in the case of Malaysia, the torrential rain that we’ve been having in the past few weeks. Highlights include Timberland’s signature waterproof leather makes up the upper, with the seams sealed shut to ensure 100% waterproofing ability.

Sensorflex comfort system make up the insole that adjusts to every step and uneven terrain, providing stability and comfort. Gripstick Rubber soles improve traction than regular rubber for extra traction. An upgrade, in every sense of the word.

Three colours make up the pack, including the famed ‘wheat’ colourway, followed by ‘dark green’ and ‘dark grey’ nubuck. The Radford boot is priced at RM 899, very close to the 6-inch’s price, but vastly different in terms of technology. The rainy season is back again, maybe it’s time to gift yourself an early Christmas present?

Samsung Malaysia Got Caught Using A DSLR Stock Photo To Promote Phone Camera

The argument is widespread throughout tech forums, comments, and whatever chatspace is available. Are smartphone cameras really better than DSLRs, or at least comparable in terms of quality?

Samsung Malaysia seems to think so, as one photographer discovered that her stock photo was used by Samsung to promote their Galaxy A8’s camera quality.

This is no bad thing, as the according to photographer Dunda Djudjic, the photo was legally bought from a website called EyeEm through Getty Images. The image was lightly edited with a slight blur in the background to make it seem like it was taken with the phone, but to use a DSLR photo to promote a smartphone camera implies false advertising in the sense that the A8 is able to match DSLR quality photos.

However, Samsung isn’t the only one to put forward such practices, as Huawei did the same thing for its Nova 3 as Redditor AbdullahSab3 caught a behind-the-scenes snippet, showcasing someone taking the photo with a DSLR and not the phone.

Granted, Samsung did put a disclaimer that the photo is meant to simulate for demo purposes only, but if the difference goes so far in comparison to the DSLR and phone picture, then maybe Samsung shouldn’t even bother in the first place.

Another WIP Releasing This Weekend On Nike

Recently, Carhartt collaborations are being noticed even more and Nike chose the right time to release an entire pack with the workwear brand.

By checking Nike’s launch calendar, we noticed that the Nike Vandal High from the collaboration will be releasing online. The Nike Vandal High consists of a high-cut upper with its signature removable ankle strap, given an all-black treatment with an interesting mix of materials of canvas and corduroy. Orange hints are noticeable on the embroidered Nike branding and the stitching on the midsoles. An interesting detail to highlight would be the brass button located at the back of the shoe and the reflective outline of the Swoosh logo. If you are familiar with Carhartt, the full gum midsole and outsole is no surprise as it clearly represents and stays true to the Carhartt brand.

The Nike Vandal High will be releasing this coming 6th of December with a retail price yet to be announced. So far, we are only aware that this silhouette will be releasing locally, however, we hope to see the remaining three pairs to release as well. Stay tuned, sneakerheads!

The Playstation Nike PG 2.5 Lands On Our Shores

Channeling Playstation 1 Vibes

You and I have both seen the first edition of Paul George’s signature shoe, the PG 2, clad in black, coloured speckles on the midsole and finished with an icy outsole. If you were a Playstation fan, as was Paul George, this was one to cop, as the equivalent Playstation Air Force One was a bit difficult in comparison.

Details were all in this shoe, from the eyelets reflecting the button colours on the Playstation controller, patent leather and mesh representing the piano black portion of the console, and as a bonus, comes with light up logos on the tongue, courtesy of a built-in battery. Mature looks, with enough child-like inspirations to cement the shoe as a proper homage to the gaming console.

Now though, we see a sequel, a further throwback 3 generations ago to the OG console, the Playstation 1 embedded into the PG 2.5.

The PG 2.5 Playstation 1 comes in proper nostalgic colours, the same gloss gray that gave life to the PS1 is transferred over to the shoe. A midfoot strap is now present, replacing the usual eyelets for extra lock during lateral turns. Button logo motifs adorn the rear three-quarter panel, and the Swooshes reflect the button colours. Pretty neat stuff. Only thing missing is the light up tongue, instead replaced with a normal PG logo and original Playstation logo in all its coloured glory. The kid in me sheds a tear of joy.

Retailing at only RM455, the PG 2.5 is no doubt a collector’s item, a homage to a console that only befits its legendary status, and a complement to the PG 2 Playstation 4. Watch out on the 5th of December at Nike.com when it drops at 9AM.

7 Bundle Stores You Need To Know To Cop Your Thrift Steals

Written by Jo Yee

When gear costs more than the food on your plate nowadays, it’s hard to strike a score between making ends meet while having a ‘trendy’ wardrobe. But thankfully, old is the new ‘new’ as we see a growing appetite for DIY styling (while saving on some of that moolah) that’s an essential factor that plays into the reason why bundle stores are popping up at almost every corner in town.

While there is a never ending stream of new bundle stores coming up, here are some of our best picks right in your neighbourhoods to satisfy that retail therapy itch while also, helping the planet out a little bit through recycling.

Jalan Jalan Japan

Jalan Jalan Japan has probably one of the most extensive collections of bundle items that are interestingly imported from, well clearly, Japan. Spanning over two floors and covering over a variety of items that ranges from clothing to just any form of collectible you can think of, going through Jalan Jalan Japan is akin to opening Pandora’s Box.

It’s hard to resist getting something as there is literally something for everyone, but those with sensitive noses beware as it might get slightly stuffy with the sheer volume of things stuffed into two packed floors. But dust bunnies aside, this bundle store will be a fun journey for all that have curiosities unsatiated (or just in need of new threads) and is willing to dig deep and for that next cop.

Address : Check out the full list of locations here
Operating hours : Mon – Sun (10 AM – 10PM)

OK GO Store

Perhaps one of the best curated (and hand-picked!) vintage clothing store in town, this quirky store is not exactly the biggest one but it definitely holds bits and pieces of treasure. Started by Shakira Idora and partner Zamir Alif, this kitschy store has a penchant for the vivid and the unique, as they single-handedly pick, wash, and market their mostly one-off pieces from their humble Instagram store.

The pathway to OK GO may be located in a slightly desolate mall, but fear not as the owners have left quirky bits of ‘clues’ to lead you to this quaint place that is sure to leave an impression on you  with their incredibly reasonable prices for an array of quality vintage items. For more info on OK GO, click here to visit their Instagram page.

Address: RL 23, Level 2, The USJ 19 City Mall.

Family Bundle Baru Ampang

Competing in the arena of bringing massive truckloads of fresh finds to your neighbourhood is none other than Family Bundle Baru Ampang. Among racks and racks of organized chaos are vintage clothing staples – Hawaiian shirts, bomber jackets, flannels; you name it they have it (and lots of it).

Prices here are down right affordable and since there is a huge amount of certain apparels e.g. vintage blazers, you can be sure to have a good time sieving through the racks for that perfect one, which you will have high chance of. Be sure to allocate a good amount of time for your bundle-diving sesh and as with the other stores – bring your own bag to store your finds as if you can avoid the unnecessary usage of plastic bags, then do it! P.S. it also means you can decide how much to limit or how little to bring home without having to worry about their plastic bags bursting.

Address: 17, Jalan Wawasan 2/3, Bandar Baru Ampang, 68000 Kuala Lumpur, Selangor
Operating Hours: Mon – Sun (10 AM – 12 AM)

Jalan Raja Bot (JRB Vintage Market)

Kickin’ up the experience a notch would definitely be a trip to Jalan Raja Bot or the JRB Vintage Market here within the heart of KL. With hundreds of competitive sellers hustling you to get a new pair of Doc Martens or to buy another “I Love KL” shirt that you don’t need, this night market that is full of character will definitely give you thrills and excitement if being dangerously close to passing vehicles wouldn’t cut it. The incredible variety and amount of goods may be quite daunting, but what is life without living on the edge sometimes, eh?

Parking and navigating the area may be a bit tricky as a huge part of this open-air market is located amongst a busy area filled with bustling vehicles and pedestrians. One way to overcome the parking situation is to park at hotel parking lots located within the vicinity or taking a Grab to this area. The maze-like layout of the market might also make you lose your bearings if you are new to the area so do bring a friend or family member along while you go on this urbane night adventure!

Address :  No 48 Jalan Raja Bot, Chow Kit, KL, 50300 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

JBR Bundle

One of the OGs in the scene, JBR has long been servicing thrifters with amazing finds from across the world, taking stock from Europe, Japan, Australia, Korea, and the US. Lucky finders may stumble upon some vintage Carhartt shirts and pants, as well as the random retro Nike ACG gear, to workwear staples from the likes of Dickies and Ben Davies. A fairly extensive collection, and all you gotta do is just take the time to go and dive into its inventory.

The bundle store doesn’t only just stock apparel, as their inventory also comprises of furniture, homewares, appliances and toys. Visitors needn’t look so far either, as outlets cover almost all corners of the Klang Valley, and then some.

With the economy crushing our souls, the way to survival is definitely an adaptive sensibility towards most things in life such as coming up with new and innovative ways to sustain new, urban lifestyles. Fashion doesn’t always have to cut deep into our already bare pockets if we can practice creative and imaginative ways in our daily lifestyle. With a steadily growing trend of bundle stores not backing down, we can see its relevance to society, particularly the youths, more than ever as it is supplying a need – affordable alternatives fashion and perhaps, a better appreciation of of self-identity through fashion.

Altimet Announces Departure With New Single, ‘Bersamamu’

Written By Aida Rashid

Bersamamu Untuk Kali Terakhir

It’s a sad week for fans of the Malaysian hip-hop scene as Altimet announces his departure from the music career he has built for the past 2 decades. However, he seems to be contented with the decision made — a decision that is arguably reasonable considering he’s retiring at his career peak. Not many people can bow out from the limelight gracefully, but Altimet has done just that, cementing his legacy as one of the all-time greats in the Malaysian hip-hop industry

His choice of leaving isn’t one that’s in vain, as he has left a sizeable discography of his own worth delving into for the generations to come, and a new addition to that long list — a solo record titled ‘O’ that’s going to be released in December and will be available on digital platforms, and together with that, another single was released featuring Cuurley, or alternatively known with many other monikers including DJ Bo Amir Iqram.

The single called “Bersamamu,” is a fun, jovial track that makes you want to pick up your dancing shoes and jig to the rhythm; a track that doesn’t take itself too seriously. The composition of “Bersamamu” is the lovechild of the collaboration between the two of them; it was produced and arranged by Cuurley with the lyrics written by Altimet. The best thing about the song though, is that if you listen to it closely, a long list of Malaysian music references presents itself throughout the song from start to finish. It feels like a nostalgic walk down memory lane of our local music industry — songs ranging from jiwang, pop, pasca-merdeka to the ever rising indie music wave.

Essentially, the song is an ode to a pretty girl explaining one’s adoration towards her, while lyrically arranged to include familiar song titles of songs we all grew up with. Among the references are, an oldie but goldie Cik Siti Lela Mayang by SM Salim, PerMYsuri by OAG, Aku Skandal by Hujan, Isabella by Jamal Abdillah, Ahmoi Chantek by Hujan, Gadis Semasa by Yuna, Kau Ilhamku by Man Bai, Suci Dalam Debu by Iklim, Sembilu 2005 film soundtrack — Sembilu Kasih by Ziana Zain, Seiring Sejalan by Broery Marantika and Datuk Sharifah Aini, Kamelia by Sweet Charity, a cheeky self-referential point with Kotarayaku by Altimet himself featuring Noh Salleh, and many more. There are also Western references including a list of rappers among others — Biggs, Beans and Memphis Bleek and also a mention of Billie Jean by Michael Jackson. Honoring the late and legendary P. Ramlee & Saloma with “Kalau jodoh tak ke mana macam Saloma dengan Ramlee”  marks as the perfect conclusion to the special piece of our musical success and pride.

It’s a catchy tune tied with a high probability of making you smile when you spot the references. Undoubted, we’ll miss Altimet and his work, but he will forever be appreciated for his contribution and influence to the industry which he has plied his trade. Selamat bersara Ahmad Abdul Rahman, dan semoga maju jaya pada masa hadapan.
