New Venom Trailer Showcases More Of Venom’s Capabilities

Written by Zaaim Hariz

After such a disappointing teaser, the first official trailer gave us a little glimpse of Venom itself, a hope that this spin-off might just have something to offer but the hype doesn’t end there, because the new second official trailer shows more closeups of Venom being vicious and just terrifying, with in-depth backstory and a couple of surprises that fans of the character can be excited for.

“Embrace your inner anti hero”

Venom follows Eddie Brock (played by Tom Hardy) — a journalist with a mission to expose an illegal testing operation by Dr. Carlton Drake (played by Riz Ahmed) at his company. Along Eddie’s journey, he came across with an alien symbiote and was subsequently infected, fighting its struggles to retain himself, before coming to a realisation that this infection could be an unexpected ally, a force to be reckoned with to take down Dr. Carlton’s operation.

Venom will be the first spin-off film from the Spider-Man franchise with the intent of starting a new shared universe featuring Marvel characters. According to multiple sources, the film also intended to share the world of Marvel Comics Universe after a deal between Sony and Marvel Studios, with a strong proposition that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man possibly making an appearance but has yet to be confirmed.

Venom will be hitting the theatres worldwide on 5th October 2018. Are y’all excited for the new addition into the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

(UPDATED) Nike React Element 87 Gets A Restock

Update: The Nike React Element 87 drops on the 30th of August. Its gonna be an explosive eve of Malaysia’s National Day.

I’m sure the most of us missed out on the Nike React Element 87’s debut and had to resort to the resell market to get a whiff of a pair. We don’t blame you, the shoe looks absolutely fantastic – a trail runner silhouette mixed racer mixed futuristic, in one shape. The shoe features React foam, pressure mapped and drilled at its stress points, giving the midsole its unique shape, as well as coming equipped with a full translucent upper, showcasing another layer that’s hidden most of the time.

Two colours arrive this time round, a reiterated version of the Volt, and Dark Grey with blue accents on the midsole that acts as the abrasion pads during foot landing and lift-off. The safer colourway would be the latter, but if you’re bold enough, the former would work just fine. The Nike React Element 87 retails for approximately RM 593 at Nike.com. Don’t miss out this time round.

Fahmi Reza’s Vans: Should It Be Accepted, Or Banned?

Fahmi Reza is no stranger to stirring shit up when it comes to politics, seeing as his “Kita Semua Penghasut” (We Are All Seditious) campaign which featured a picture of Najib stylised with clown makeup caused much of a storm on social media that everyone who’s even active in the slightest will have seen his poster being circulated.

Credit: Cilisos

It is, without a doubt, a successful attempt as a peaceful rebellion, acknowledging and respecting its laws, yet fighting and going against the big man and his authoritarian government in ways only millennials know how to wield. This movement then, has spreaded like wildfire across social media platforms, with people in solidarity behind the movement through the usage of the clown face in posters, stickers, t-shirts, and pins. Which brings me to my next point.

While the political maelstrom has somewhat subsided after the 14th General Elections, there isn’t really much need for left wing propaganda to disseminate once more, until Fahmi decided to feature his images onto a template of a slip-on, as part of Vans Asia Custom Culture competition.

According to Vans themselves, the Vans Asia Custom Culture was created to empower individuals and be able to express themselves through art and design. Creatives bring out their best work, transfer it onto a Slip-On template, and the winner gets a cash prize and gets to see their design come to life, as well as host a House Of Vans Workshop. A very cool concept.

Given this then, there is no problem when all is considered; it is after all, an artwork that even though polarises opinions, was still celebrated in terms of impact and the message that it brought to light. However, putting this design onto a shoe sends a different message to those scrolling through their timelines that it is no longer a political tool to unite the citizens under a common cause, but rather an act of cashing out as much as possible before its no longer hyped.

Some netizens too think that it’s gone a bit overboard:

The man himself had this to say when told off by a Twitter user:

The anger and distaste is also not on unfounded grounds. Vans has clearly stated one of its deciding factors in choosing is to see whether the design represents the culture of the country in some sense, and putting Najib’s face on a shoe just brings a wrong message to the ones whose eyes are on us, as a nation. Yes, it is a fruitful victory, that a wholly new government is installed, but as one Twitter user puts it best: protest art is not made to be stylised, but to deliver a message.

It also puts other designers at an astutely horrible disadvantage, when some of the designs more accurately reflect the criteria that Vans has laid out.

Among some of the other user submitted designs hailing from Malaysia

What do you think? Should Vans scrutinise on the design as it does not accurately reflect Malaysian culture, or should it be continued, as it can still be regarded as an art piece? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

Uniqlo’s U FW18 Collection Is Actually Wearable In Malaysian Conditions

This is some winter wear we can actually get behind. The designer is Christophe Lemaire, and he has quite the resume. after heading the artistic direction for both Lacoste and Hermès women’s wear, the collection represents a commitment to reinventing the basics as the future of the LifeWear series.

UNIQLO’s Paris R&D Centre becomes the hub of this development, constantly evolving its ideas, including patterns, fabric development, and different sewing techniques. The latest collection follows bright colours reflective of the fall and winter colour palette and designs, fusing timelessness with diverse ideas that has become the symbol of LifeWear.

Brilliant reds and fuchsias dominate the collection as rich and warm accents symbolise the coming of fall. This season’s couture places emphasis on volume through dolman sleeves for women’s fleece blousons and boxy silhouettes for men’s fleece jackets. Women’s apparel exudes confidence without sacrificing comfort, whereas the mens convey relaxation.

They’re not screwing around with the amount of tech fitted into these garments. Coats are fitted with BLOCKTECH, UNIQLO’s version of GORE-TEX, that repels water and is windproof. The material wicks away inside moisture, and are equipped with snap-on hoods, with hem slits that enhance comfort whenever walking or seated. 3D knits this time round employ advanced WHOLEGARMENT tech for a no compromise fit.

The new collection is set to release on Friday, September 14. Ya’ll be copping?

Where To Cop The Adidas POD System S3.1

We all want Y-3s, but most of us don’t really have the dough to split with to buy any Y-3. Adidas then, has the perfect remedy for you. The POD System, or ‘Point Of Deflection,’ is Adidas latest generation of Boost equipped shoes right smack in their lifestyle lineup. IT’s design ethos fuses a combination of classic design looks and modern tech. In this sense then, we can conclude that the shoe pays homage to its past, while imbuing plenty of new materials and updated construction that’s befitting for the future.

Comprised of 3 different parts, the midsole combines a TPU fore foot, a stretchy plastic mid-foot bridge, finished with a thick Boost heel. The upper is constructed with a mesh knit, with reflective materials on the laces and hidden inside the knit, giving a new layer that’s only visible under flash. The silhouette come sin a myriad of colourways, but we think black on white defines the shoe extremely well. The Adidas POD system S3.1 can be purchased at leading Adidas Originals Stores in Klang Valley and online for about RM 611 retail. You copping?

KITH Screws Over Bots By Redirecting Them To The Wrong Off-White Presto Link

Still fresh off of the Solebox debacle, KITH has been on the front trying to deflect bots looking for the white Off-White Prestos by redirecting them to a link selling, wait for it…….Wheat Air Jordan 1s. The screenshot below details one reseller’s conversation with a KITH help representative.

This fine example shows a redirected bot buying 1700 USD (Approximately 6936 RM) worth of Air Jordan 1 ‘Wheat,’ and with the bot handler trying to revoke said purchase with KITH’s customer service. Obviously we cannot exactly verify whether the screenshot is true, but it still makes for a good laugh nonetheless. All we can say is that if it’s true, that’s a huuuuge L on the guy’s tab. What do you think of the retailer’s attempts at warding off bots? Fair to everyone? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

MRT Billboards Get Graffiti-ed by Renowned Local Artists

Graffiti. Often synonymous with vandalism for the longest time, now finally getting the attention and reception that it deserves after wide acceptance into contemporary culture. From its subversive beginnings in the New York tunnels, and thought to be jsut some sprays or ‘contengs’ on the wall, graffiti has much more evolved from spreading metaphorical messages to the masses, to art pieces scattered all across the cityscape, welcomed as part of the cultural mainstream. Regardless, certain places still view it with negative connotations, and it’s no different here in Malaysia, whereby actually performing graffiti is considered illegal, but that is also where its attraction lies.

The very nature of the art gives the audience a sense of power, an energy of rebelliousness that classical art pieces can’t hope to give.  BAD LAB wanted to congregate 4 of the best graffiti artists Malaysia has to offer and and showcase each of their unique artwork at the MRT pillars near TTDI station.

Comprised of famous names from the likes of Cloakwork, Katun, Dmojo, and Shade, the so-called #BADLABGANGOF4 performed live drawings on each of the billboards, all the way from 12am to 5am last Sunday night.

#BADLABBILLBOARDS will be up for the next 6 months, so plenty of time to enjoy great artwork, courtesy of local talent.
