Bathing Ape Partners With PUBG To Release In-Game Content

The hypebeasts are going to take over PUBG mobile

Normally, no one would associate a streetwear brand to ever venture onto the digital side. Yes, you have the ground breakers like the Louis Vuitton X Supreme, and Fragment Design which tries just about anything it wants, but no one has ever really thought to implement their products in game. Until BAPE decided f*ck it and put itself in Player Unknowns Battleground game.

The Battle Royale game will now include exclusive BAPE drops, from the likes of the shark camo hoodies, patterned frying pan, and much much more. Expect weapon skins to be included inside as well. Who wouldn’t want a BAPE Kar98K?

More React Element Colourways Are Coming

Quite fresh after a hotly contested round of who managed to get the UNDERCOVER X Nike React Element 87, the Swoosh is dropping some more colourways of the new silhouette. The “Knicks” colourway and “Dark Grey” are set to release tomorrow online, at Nike.com, and we have a feeling that this won’t sell out as fast in particular. Judging from the trend of popularity, the React Elements seems to have pass its peak, with resell prices dropping steadily in the the triple digits for the lesser wanted colourways. Which is a good thing, in our books at least.

The translucent trail-inspired shoe isn’t the only version that’s releasing. The slightly more affordable younger sister, the React Element 55, will also come to light in a much more easier looking colour, “Mica Green,” and “Particle Beige.” The 55s come in mesh, rather than the translucent counterpart, but retains the same React midsole as its pricier sibling.

Both the 87s and 55s will release tomorrow at Nike.com with the RM687 and RM540 respectively. Ready to part ways with your cash?

The Nike Shox Is Making A Comeback

The Future: Early 2000s Style

The transition to the 21st century was filled with new technologies. whatever weird, or out of the ordinary, there was a company bound to take the leap and give the new piece of tech a go. Nike was very much the same, debuting the Shox to the masses with a shoe that very much looked like it came out of a space movie. Think ZoomX is revolutionary? Nike has been researching energy return since the last 2 decades, and one of their earliest examples surfaced in the form of polyurethane columns that absorbed impact and bounced it back to the wearer, effectively returning the energy propelling the runner forward.

It also helped popularity that Team USA’s Vince Carter dunked over a 7’2″ center from France in a pair of Shox, thus cementing its popularity and subsequent derivations in various other sporting wares. This lasted for a while, until Nike pulled the plug on all Shox related shoes last year.

That is until, they’ve decided to bring it back.

From debuting the Nike Shox Gravity to the runway with Commes des Garcons, it’s fairly safe to say the Nike Shox is back in full force. And now you have a chance to buy the one that started it all. In many ways, the reboot is loyal to the original Shox R4; the platform and double-lasted synthetic upper return, as well as the OG colourway, metallic detailing, and reflective elements. The midsole is covered, unifying the look and exposing the unique parts of the shoe, makes for a retro-ed future reality.

The Nike Shox R4 is available for purchase this Sunday, 14th October on Nike.com. We’re telling you now, retros are coming back.

The Air Jordan 6 “Tinker Hatfield” Is Releasing Today

Jordan’s plan to release prototype sketches of Tinker Hatfield’s original designs are going in at full swing. Straight after the release of the Air Jordan 3 “Tinker,” the brand continues on this foundation by releasing the next iteration, the Air Jordan 6.

You’ll come to notice however, that there isn’t much physical changes compared to your GR Air Jordan 6, apart from the fact that the “Tinker” edition boasts an unreleased colourway, initially failing to make it to retailer stores. The palette resembles something very 90s, with white and grey taking centre stage with accents of red and navy colouring the tongue, midsole, and heels. Icy blue outsole completes the look with perforations in the leather ensure some form of breathability during use. Overall very retro.

The AJ6 “Tinker” releases today, for RM 775, with still a full size run available. We’d tell you to get the Air Jordan 4 “Raptors” that just restocked today (and sold out), but this is a legacy colourway; one of the originals that supposedly never made it out of the sketchbook, turned into reality. It doesn’t get any better than this.

Nike Gets Rebellious With The Nike Blazer Mid

The Nike Blazer has been part of the streetwear community for a long time. This time, Nike releases another iteration of the Nike Blazer known as the Blazer Mid Rebel which features asymmetrical lacing system and a medial side zipper. Word is going around among sneakerheads saying that the Nike Blazer Mid Rebel has similar characteristics to Off-White’s collaboration with Nike from The Ten, namely the Nike label which has been shifted to the side panel. Another feature to highlight is the alternating Swoosh colour-blocking and the abstract heel strip of fabric stitched from the midsole all the way till the Nike text around the heel collar. Beige is the chosen palette of colour, with monotone swooshes per side; black on the medial side, and white on the lateral sight. It’s all in the details.

The Nike Blazer Mid Rebel will be releasing this coming 5th October, but only in women sizes with a price tag of RM414 on Nike.

The Under Armour Forge 96 Is The Brand’s Take On A Lifestyle Shoe

If you can’t get enough of these oversize, chunky and mostly fashionable sneakers (according to the purveyors of trends), this new addition from Under Armour might just be for you. Making their way to the scene, Under Armour have finally succumbed to create their own blueprint of dad shoes with the all new Under Armour Forge 96. Sporty and stylish, this collection was meant to bring the American brand out of their comfort zone of sports and reorient to the lifestyle audiences.

Inspired by the 90’s running silhouettes, the Forge 96 was designed to be one of the hottest trend staples for this generation’s sneaker-heads. It has been interpreted towards a bolder and better take with maximum breathability and a taste of a throwback technology. And of course, like any other dad shoes, it is recognisable for slightly oversized proportions but with their own tooling of mixed material upper.

Available in four colourways, green, yellow, and red are priced at RM499 while the main colourway goes for RM599. The new legacy in the making of the Under Armour Forge 96 will be available exclusively in JD Sports Pavilion and the Under Armour web-store – all sizes are unisex and of course, it will be a limited release.

We fear however, that it may be a case of a little too late. Regardless, if you couldn’t care less about trends, then this could be the next addition to your closet.

The Founder Of Nike SB Has Passed Away

Apart from the OG sneakerheads, not many know the fact that the SB in Nike SB actually stood for Sandy Bodecker, and not skateboarding as many would have been led to believe. The man who created a whole new division from a shoe that was initially meant for basketball, has left us today, aged 66.

Starting out in 1982 as a footwear wear-test coordinator, Bodecker then rose to become the Swoosh’s first general manager of its skateboarding division, which he spearheaded product innovation and brand credibility through the skate scene. Product innovation though, is one thing he succeeded really well. The Nike Dunk SB was born after Bodecker added in a Zoom Air sole and fatten the tongue for extra support, and became the icon that it is now.

Apart from that, Bodecker was also part in the Breaking2 project, in the pursuit to break the 2 hour mark for a full marathon with the help of renowned runner, Eliud Kipchoge. So much so in fact, that he got 1:59:59 tattooed on the inside of his left wrist as a testament to his dedication. Kipchoge got close, beating the world record at 2:01:39, a new record by 1 minute and 18 seconds.

While missing out on the 2 hour mark by just a smidge, the campaign birthed a new generation of running shoes from the likes of the Vaporfly Elite, Vaporfly 4%, Zoom Fly SP, and Vapor Street. None of which wouldn’t have been possible had Bodecker not joined the campaign.

The infamous Pigeon Dunk Riot

SBs too have plenty of cultural heritage all across the world, including Malaysia. It’s where all the original collectors first cut their teeth into the sneaker scene, which subsequently grew into other subcultures that intersect on a daily basis. From multiple collaborations that caused riots, collectors go crazy over, and ultra limited releases, there’s no denying the influence of SB in the skateboarding and streetwear culture. That’s the impact of the SBs, and that’s a feat no one else has yet to replicate.

Rest In Peace Sandy. You will be missed.

Vans Taps Disney For It’s Latest Collab

You’re Never Too Old For Disney

Fresh after hosting House Of Vans, Vans is back with another bomber, this time calling upon Disney for another massive collection. Remember the Marvel X Vans? It’s about that scale. Let’s go down into the details.

Each silhouette hosts a specific design along with its associated story. For example, to commemorate Mickey Mouse’s film debut in 1928, iconic scenes from the silent film ‘Plane Crazy’ were captured under a patent material in each quarter panel of the Sk8-Hi. a 3D emblem on the heels finishes the look.

One other Mickey persona we’re very familiar with is the “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” Mickey in the 1940 animated film, Fantasia. The Sk8-Hi silhouette is again used, this time taking inspiration from the Sorcerer’s hat. Velvet quarter panels are adorned with celestial moon and star embroidery, which is complemented with blue suede panels and contrasting yellow stitching. The sole is coloured black, while the laces have printed stars on them. The whole look is completed with the Sorcerer’s Apprentice emblem on the heel.

For the kids, or just a simple throwback for the older millennials, the Old Skool gets done up in commemoration of Mickey Mouse Club, featuring a red Sidestripe and club logo sewn on the tongue. Added details include custom chain stitched embroidery on the back of each heel.

An 80s rendition has also been in the works, featuring multi-colour pastel blocking in pink, yellow and green, topped off with era appropriate Mickey Mouse print and the iconic Checkerboard pattern.

One of the better looking ones has to be this Checkerboarded Slip-On, featuring Mickey and Minnie in a grease monkey makeover, complete with flames in the background and Mickey and Minnie on both toeboxes.

Or if you wanna go classic all the way, the Authentic serves up a pair that’s been updated with the Mouse’s trademark colours including a yellow midsole complimented with red and black uppers and yellow buttons along the heels. Lastly, the Old Skool gets a classic do over showcasing Mickey Mouse’s white gloves holding the medial side of the shoe, of which both sides of a pair contain 2 hidden Mickeys on the tongues.

Cheeky with plenty of Easter Eggs. We like it.

The Vans X Disney collaboration will drop in retail stores nationwide on the 4th of October. We speculate the pricing for the shoes to follow its GR counterparts, so it shouldn’t break the bank. Will you be copping for Sneakerlah?

The Different Types Of Sneakerheads You’ll Meet In Malaysia Part 2

It’s been a few years since we first talked about the different types of sneakerheads we meet in Malaysia. By now, terms like “hypebeast” or “OG” are a norm and thrown around casually in the sneaker/streetwear scene. Nothing stays the same though, and the scene is thriving a lot more now compared to what it was 2 years ago. With that being said, the people have changed as well and so have fashion trends. Here’s a new list of sneakerheads that you will probably encounter along your ways. Also, here’s a reminder that Sneakerlah 2018 is happening in just a few more days so don’t forget to buy your tickets!

1.Off-White Tribe

Yes, we know Supreme has reigned for a long time in the streetwear scene but it looks like a new contender has come into play. Virgil Abloh’s brand has grown to become a major contender not just the street scene, but in the fashion world as well so this shouldn’t come as a surprise that the lines between the two are getting blurrier by the minute. Loud Off-White tees, yellow industrial belts and of course, collaborations with Nike/Adidas sneakers are some of his favourite wardrobe staples.

2. Daddy

Polos, khakis and of course, dad shoes. The thing is, this guy has been a sneakerhead for ages. He’s just moved on to the next step in life, which is to start a family and have kids of his own. Usually seen with his wife and kids, he can be seen pushing a stroller with junior rocking dope sneakers, of course. Donning a Lacoste or Ralph Lauren polo/shirt is perfectly normal for him since he knows he has a closet full of tees from the good ol’ days. While he may get a few stares at a seemingly ‘normy’ look at sneaker conventions, don’t forget this guy’s been around for ages. Probably still rocks his NBs that are about to crumble, Jordans or adidas Superstars/Stan Smith.

3. I-am-gonna-stand-out-in-a-crowd-guy

This guy aims to be different, literally. Why wear conventional sneakers? Even collaborations and so-called limited sneakers don’t appeal to him. He wants to wear one-of-a-kind pairs of sneakers. Whether it’s inspired by Supreme or Off-White, it matters not as long as it stands out in a crowd. Examples would include unique colour blocking, additional elements like a zipper or even text painted on the midsole. Sometimes he’s even called out for wearing “fakes” but it doesn’t deter him in the slightest. Kudos for daring to be extra! His favourite pairs to have customised are probably Vans, Adidas, Nike or Converse.

4. Mr. High End Only

Dude’s high-end game is on point. He’s only on luxury brands. PERIOD. He may like the occasional Air Jordan 1 x Off-White but in general, he shuns traditional sneakers brands like Adidas, Puma, Reebok… well you get the picture. Flexing in sneakers from Margiela, Gucci or Balenciaga is really what it’s all about. You think the sneakers you bought at retail are expensive? Well, he’s got one at quadruple the price.

5. Tech-Ninja

Generally seen in clothes with plenty of pockets whether it is his shirt or pants, this guy is usually dressed in all black or similarly dark colours. A blend of functionality and style, he takes brands like Acronym seriously and usually cops shoes that are sleek/slim to fit his modern ninja style like Y-3 or the Nike collaborations with Acronym. Not to forget, this dude has money to spend too since his pants probably cost an arm or leg.

6. The Faceless One

This guy is a hypebeast… but one without facial features. For some reason, he thinks it’s cool to not show his face and does a multitude of annoying poses for the ‘Gram. Usually it’s a BAPE facemask, a praying hand pose (hands covering his face of course) or simply bending to show just his cap. Yeah dude, we know what you are wearing is cool and all but do you always have to cover the face? Like ALWAYS? Yo, the clothes can only bring you so far, but be more confident man… unless you are an overgrown kid with the face of an uncle. Usually wearing Yeezys or anything else that he thinks is hype enough to make you forget he’s not showing his face.

7. Hi, I’m Clueless

By now, everyone has seen the fake, large Supreme bogo tees whether it’s at the malls, mamaks or your favorite coffee shop. OK, to be fair, this guy may not even know what he’s wearing is fake. Whether it is his T-shirt, sneakers or even that fugazi Stussy bag he’s carrying around, give this dude a break. Maybe he just wants to fit in with the cool kids. Maybe he’s been influenced by a certain influencer (God, I hate this word) who didn’t know any better but whatever the case, just be nice. Then again, it’s a different story if he already knows it was a fake to begin with. Well, it’s a free world ain’t it?

Do you agree or disagree? Sound off in the comments section below and let us know if there are any other types of sneaker heads you think should have been included.

Batman In Samurai Form, Why Not?

Remember the hotly anticipated Batman Ninja movie, where the Caped Crusader got transported to feudal Japan to finish Joker off? This is about the same, but different.

Singaporean studio XM Studios has come up with a concept that resonates well with fans of remixes. Modern Gotham meets Neo-Tokyo samurai as Batman is donned up in traditional samurai gear, complete with a katana, blending together two universes into a dark and moody setting.

Gorgeous AF.

Royal Selangor then decides to have a go at recreating the model, and its pewter and bonded porcelain counterpart is no less astounding than the original. Every detail of XM’s original design has been painstakingly recreated, with one foot on top of an onigawara atop temple ruins. A formidable look too, as the figure is clad in an elaborate pseudo-steampunk take on samurai armour. Magnetic caps are in place so that Batman’s hands can be interchanged for ones that are grasping batarangs. Formidable.

The pewter finish too finalises his moody aura, a true Dark Knight that sails through the sky in medieval Japan. Collectors better hurry though, as this is limited to 300 pieces worldwide. Pre-orders have already begun, and physical modles will be available at Royal Selangor outlets, authorised dealers and at Royal Selangor’s website. Maybe it’s time to swap the Medicom toy collection for this instead.
